go here for full details including story on team sohos upcoming game the getaway
http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20010322/coates_01.htm
This is the recreated map of london made for the getaway with some specs for you to realize how ambitious this game really is
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamasutra.com%2Ffeatures%2F20010322%2Fmap.jpg&hash=14bc8db45110eabfa1b9b85a51185a2dd3581f0e)
Graphically - the above map shows all of the roads included in the game, each square is a development grid cell and measures 250m x 250m.
By Distance - over 110Km (70 miles) of drivable roads have been accurately recreated from Ordinance Survey map data.
By Area - the free roaming map is spread over 50 square kilometers (20 square miles) or 5000 hectares (12350 acres) of central London.
By Time - breaking all speed limits and running every red light it takes over 15minutes to travel between the furthest points east and west.
By Resource - the cityscape alone will take 10 full time artists over 2 years to build, 50% more than the total number of artists on the whole Playstation 1 version.
By Geography - from the far edge of Hyde Park in the west to Shoreditch & Bethnal Green in the east. From the Angel in the north to Lambeth Bridge in the South.
For the locals - and finally, for any Londoners out there, the map covers an area close to what you get when you buy a "Zone 1" travel card.
well there you have it folks, visit the above url for more details !!!
It is my opinion that this is going to be a game that totally defines next gen, by having a top notch story, amazing graphics , and by blending the lines between genres

Yeah I noticed that after i made the post, i was going to edit but no need to now :)
The story is quite a good read at the link don\'t you think ?
-
yeah, but i am still worryed about the gameplay value of this game, but hey if they have spent all that time and effort getting the geography right, then i must be a good thing.
-
I\'m really interested about this game!
This is a hybrid of Driver, GTA and Midtown Madness... now wich combination could top this? Plus amazing graphics and London made reality in this game...
I want mpegs! Thank you, Mike and ooseven, for posting this great news-bit.
-
i THINK there should be something shown at E3 about this, when its is by the way i can wait to see the latest news on the latest games.
-
They\'re really going into insane detail with this game... the thought of being able to walk in to the GAP I visited while in London, pulling out a pistol and seeing all the innocent civilians run in panic is exhilarating... heehee.
Such an ambitious project could fall so hard though...
Eagerly waiting for more info.
-
when does it come out
-
about June I think... anyway I would know sure the date
-
I read (and i cant remember where now ) thaat there is a hint of it being playable at e3

Yeah June 2002
SoHo has already said they are in no hurry to get this game out and its targeted for a Xmas 2001 release, but they said don\'t count on it
This game IMO won\'t be out till Xmas 2002
, so much is going into it that to release it early wouldn\'t be prudent

Wow what a read
Talk about what it takes to organize a massive videogame project that replicates a real enviroment. After reading that its amazing that its even possible.
I can\'t wait to see there final product

well the fear is always there, but from what I\'ve read studio SoHo is seriously striving to put there comapny on the charts as one of the premiere game makers in the business. If they are serious then they won\'t be producing no Bouncers
Just reading the article will have you r head swimming with what and how they are going about making this epic

yea,the more i read into this game and see what it offers, the more i drool...

I hate the word "Hype". I definetely agree with Hawke and ViVi here. There is a possibility - and after such a long wait, we all expect ( whether we want it or not ) quite much from the game.
can it bring what it promises?
That\'s all about it. If it\'s just another driver -clone... we\'ve waited for nothing, really. If it has real-time environment... well, whole another case :)
I\'m quite glad they have no hurries on making the game - wich could leave it really buggy and unfinished; I\'m also glad that they\'re taking the full advantage of ps2 by slowly and steadily studying the wonders of the console.
But like wise hawke said:
"Such an ambitious project could fall so hard though..."

I on the other hand am an Optomist
the game will be special
anyone wanna bet :eyemouth:

There was a huga artice in the latest uk OPM (the one with the gt3 demo) about this game. This game started as a psx game, and it will feature the psx prototype version! The way they did the characters and map design was also really special, they used real photographs instead of hand drawn textures.

Man this game is driveing me mad.(no pun intended):D
