Sony\'s Online division has long been planning their supposed Halo-killing shooter, PlanetSide. As it looks, PlanetSide is graphically competitive with Halo and as it stands, looks even better; however, only time will tell. Just think of this as Sony\'s way of saying "screw you" to Microsoft. A key attribute to PlanetSide is its online play capabilities and amazing graphics. In fact, PlanetSide is allegedly Sony\'s showcase for the PS2\'s online potential. As you can probably figure out, the game will not be coming to Microsoft\'s Xbox, or commonly known as "the console that steals everyone elses games", because Sony is developing PlanetSide themselves.
Now for some game info: In PlanetSide, you\'ll be able to play on the side of one of three empires in order to take over the world, represented by a series of continents and regions. Fragging will be unique as every frag will permanently affect the battlefield\'s terrain, even after an online game. Some empires will burgeon during the course of the game while the other empires will shrivel. Despite all the other good stuff, online play will be the greatest attribute of this game in the end.
What we\'re looking at is a high-quality FPS which, after you see the screenshots, will be a AAA title in your eyes. Check \'em out.

I agree this game looks amazing! This game looks to be pushing the power of the ps2! This game will be a reason to get internet play. Too much of my money is being spent on the ps2. I am tired of it! ;)

Well I\'m not so sure these are PS2 shots, and I have yet to hear any official announcement of Planetside for the PS2
However the game is being made by Verant Interactive who is a Sony 1st party developer. So a PS2 version seems almost inevitable
WHo knows it would be sweet if SOny unveiled this in some for for the PS2 at E3 but I\'m not banking on it

This sort of one-up-manship is stupid. A Halo killer, a Zelda Killer, a Goldeneye Killer. Are they ever? Nope. How many times have you read "Gran Turismo killer?" Has it happened? Nope.

Well, these shots are simply amazing. I\'m actually impressed. Those graphics look gorgeous. I haven\'t seen a PS2 game that looks this good yet...

Hey maybe they have been spending all their time doing this game, so their sports games are horrible. Just a thought. BTW, haven\'t you heard the 42nd time is a charm? :)

Perhaps 989 Studios have finally released the talented programmers who made Syphon Filter 1 & 2 from their jail cells.
Funny that it\'s being labelled as a \'Halo killer\' when Halo is still several months away from being finished and fully playable.

Just like ddaryl said, it\'s Verant, not 989 Studios. And those are not PS2 shots, those are shots for the PC.

Well why does ps2web.com say that it is being developed by 989? Huh strange. I think the ps2 will be able to hammer those graphics out!

Every game 989 has done for ps2 has sucked, whether they\'ve developed it or not. They work with cheap ass dev houses it seems, and you get what you pay for with them.

I wasn\'t singling you our, but Planetside is a killer game developed by a Sony 1st party albeit for the PC but I still thought ever regular here was educated on this
989 Studios making something as beautiful as Planetside :laughing:

I also believe Verant is involved with StarWars Galaxies the online RPG, Lucas Arts is alos involved in this as well
One of these games has to amke it to the PS2, I have heard nothing about any official Verant PS2 offering though so I\'m wondering

Those shots are the PS2 version.How do i know this well because some of the staff at PS2web happen to get Exclusive news, and this just happens to be a PS2 game that will INCLUDE online play because it doesn\'t come out until 2002, and that is when the damn BB will be ready(i hope) Don\'t diss PS2web because with the ties i have to that sight they would more then the less talk to you guys about it....They know what they are talking about. So please don\'t diss the website.

Well, i guess i was wrong BUT PS2 is still getting Planetside it was confirmed along time ago by OPM. Which is a highly respected PSX magazine, and alot of the stuff that makes it into OPM is coming str8t from SONY its self..Well i hope the game looks that good, and trust me it will the game is not supposed to be out until 2002, and trust me IT WILL make it with online play for the PS2. I kinda got a feeling something major is going down at E3 and it involves SONY:D

I\'ll go ahead and diss any damn site I please. Those shots are from the PC version whether you\'d like to believe it or not. If you want to praise a site that posts PC shots as PS2\'s go ahead. As much as I love my PS2, those textures would be hard as hell to do, and Verant isn\'t going to be the first with the break-through to take advantage of the PS2\'s texture streaming. So I don\'t care if you have ties with the site, tell them to post credible shots. Those shots have been shown for the PC ages ago.

Bah.....989 will not make a fps that will beat Halo. I am getting Halo anyways, once it comes out for the PC which is after it is released with the Xbox

But I think those are PC shots because I have seen them before.

FFS that\'s like blindly buying the Bouncer and saying "oh Squaresoft never makes a crap game ...!".
i want to give thsi one a chance seeing that i am not even intrested with HALO in anyway at all.

If you don\'t like Halo, why would you like this? They\'re the same type of thing pretty much. I\'m personally not interested in either game.

Looks good, but I think it may be a little premature to call it a Halo Killer. And those look like screens from the PC version.

We will get either Planetside(MMOFPS) Starwars Galaxies(MMORPG) or something new all together...
but both of those games would rock on PS2:D
I would also like to point out that this game will have FAR more on-line multi-player\'s than Halo can ever dream of...plus it looks a hell of a lot better.

thanks for proving my point by posting those horrible and ugly HALO pics......This is the first time i see a game actully look worst after more development time(compare these to the MAC version...nuff said)
Halo also looks WAY to cartoonish, and non-realistic....Planetside on the other hand is realistic and far better looking
The grass it selfs destroys everything we have seen in HALO.
Halo is pretty much a joke, it looks WORST than the MAC version shown almost a year ago!!! the gameplay is IMO nothing but yet another "been there done that" FPS..

Oh well, it seems that I have goofed. PlanetSide has not been confirmed for the PS2 but, nevertheless, will likely get to that stage. The screens that I had shown earlier are merely screenshots from the PC version of which I read incorrectly. I\'m sorry if I had overhyped you guys but false information is not my thing. Ahh so I was right :).
Those screens do look awfly PCish, I thought it\'d be almost possible to get a PS2 game to look like that.
Well here\'s hoping it eventually makes it\'s way to the PS2. With the huge console userbase, who knows why there are still PC exclusives.

This is definatly a PC game ala everquest. Massive online support and those screens are PC screens. Sony is also involved with Lucas Arts in doing Star Wars galaxies. There is a possibility that both games are due to be done on the PS2.

Look at the diffrance.
That Planetside game looks much better (IMO)
Planetside: Grass, lots of trees ect.
Halo: Golf (green) grass, no trees (not in those screens anyways)
Planetside looks much better. I think Halo has such dull textures, everything looks so dead.
If Planetside is "owned" by Sony, why would the keep it from PS2???
But we would prob. not see it on PS2 by 2002 (when enthernet adapter is out)
