Title: Need an Rpg ..Suffering from withdrawls!!
Post by: Jerky_Joe on March 29, 2001, 11:35:28 PM
Hey guys, I\'m near the end in Summoner and I was thinking of getting a regular playstation Rpg since I cant seem to see another good ps2 one yet. I already own/pass ff9 ( like who hasn\'t :)  ) and i was thinking more along the lines of Chrono Cross. I never played the SNES game Chrono Trigger but i hear cross is good and ign seems to love it. Any thoughts as to a good rpg to get for either platform???

The best psx rpg that I would recommend is FF7 if you dont own it or havent played it. THat is one of the best IF NOT the best rpg out there. I own FF7, 8, 9 and I will continue to buy the future FF\'s (and yes i will buy the ps2 redone version of FF7 - 9).
But if you want something that is different and not really along the lines of a FF, then chrono cross is a good rpg  to get too. I am currently playing through it. Im on disc two. ITs only two disc but dont let the amount of disc fool you. I spent 38 hours on the first disc, trying to get everyone and everything. THe story is not as linear as ane of the FF\'s but its still interesting and fun none the less. Plus the battlesystem is unique to say the least. Don\'t expect the usual 9999 hp or the 999 mp style of gameplay in chrono cross though. The other great thing about it is the vast numbers of characters you can obtain and the story line that goes along with them. Although you won\'t be using alot of them the majority of the game. Still Chrono cross is a good rpg to play if you like rpgs. :D

The FF games are great, but for RPG goodness, the one that is BY FAR the best RPG, and the Best GAME ever, in my opinion, is the almighty Xenogears. There\'s a good 50-60 hours of game even for the best RPG player, and the storyline exceeds any other game\'s.

How about the cult classic Persona or Persona 2? Chrono Cross is a decent choice too (not one of my personal favorites, though), Xenogears is grrrrrrreat, and Lunar 1 or 2 are both awesome if you don\'t mind the old school graphics.

But enough about Playstation RPGs, if you have a Dreamcast you need Skies of Arcadia. I\'m playing it right now, it\'s good stuff.

If you have a DC, you might try Grandia 2. Its one of my few DC games.

if you do not have a DC, you will be assimilated.

Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, PSO, and if you suffered yourself through the poo that is Summoner, you may want to try Evolution 1 and 2.

Through the poo....heh heh

I like that. I just might assimilate that term into my daily language.

BTW, If you dont have a DC you should get one because they are cheap as fock and there are a ton of sweet RPGs to play. Like Skies of Arcadia(My Favorite), Grandia, and PSO(Otherwise known as Phantasy Crack Online)

yeah grandia2 rocks on the DC. and it\'s graphics are certainly making use of what can be done on a 128-bit system with full 3D real-time rendering of backgrounds which is nice. FFX will be better than Grandia2 but Grandia2 is available now. also grandia2 uses a uniqe style of battel system where all parties can perform movies at the same time .. pretty kewl.

i also saw some demos of skies of arcadia on DC which seemed very nice, the characters are very cute and i think i would like to try this one.

chrono cross is also an excelent choice, if you played chrono trigger you will be crazy for this one. a very nice engaging story too..

don;t know much about zeno-gears.. sorry..

C\'mon people!  You\'re forgetting the absolute best PSX RPG games ever!  I\'m of course talking about Suikoden and Suikoden 2[/i].  The former is kinda rare, but also very cheap (less than $20).  Suikoden 2 is AWESOME, and it can usually be bought for about $20-$30.  Both these games are an RPG player\'s dream, but unfortunately many people haven\'t played them because they aren\'t too popular.  Trust me on this:  if you want an amazing RPG with a sweet price tag, then pick up one of them (or even better, get both, because you can use your Suikoden 1 memory card data with Suikoden 2).

Oh, and Suikoden 2 has 3 different endings, so you\'ll want to play through it more than once if you want to get the most outta the game. :)
