I probably shouldn\'t admit this, but Ps2 is REALLY POWERFUL.
-
You must be absolutely nuts if you think that game looks better than DOA3 in ANY respect. DOA3 has the BEST graphics, period. Be it backgrounds, the foreground, the character models (just look at her boobs!), etc.
The backgrounds stretch back further, the character models are much "meatier" (heh heh), the lighting is much better, the physics are right one (did you see that gut thrown over the cliff break off a piece of the cliff on the way down?), etc. AND IT\'S ALL RUNNING ON A DEVELOPMENT KIT WITH HALF THE POWER OF THE FINISHED HARDWARE!!!
-
Have you sen any vf4 movies, I suggest you do
Um..sorry the DOA3 character models loos nad, they look the same as my doa2 on ps2, no difference. Talking about realsim..and physics..doa3 sure has realistic pysics (boobs *cough* *coug*) and its all about gameplay which none of the DOA games had :) wait for tekken 4, sc2, sf4 and vf4!
-
I do agree that the DOA3 backgrounds look much better for the most part... But the character models aren\'t even CLOSE to VF4\'s. I just hope DOA3\'s graphics aren\'t majorly scaled down like DOA2 was, especially the environments (remember those large shots of the arial garden stage?). On the other hand VF4 could be scaled down when converted to PS2... Anyways, both games are too early to make any final decisions, but as it stands VF4 owns character models and DOA3 owns backgrounds.
-
Both games look promising. Ones on arcade hardware(and possibly just a realtime demo)(VF4) so PS2 ppl cant brag yet. Ones just a realtime demo (DoA3) so XB ppl cant brag yet. Call it a draw til much closer to release time...

Yes! When Tekken 4 comes it will have the best game play. I never got any DOAs games, not even the PSone. DOAs games It\'s like Street Fighter to me. I get only Tekkens and VF games. They have the best game play thought.[/b] :D

Sorry to say this, but the Tekken series has the worst gameplay of the 3. You can button mash in that game and easily win. You can\'t do that in either DOA or VF and expect to win.
-
thank you inteq, my point exactly.
at least in DOA2, there is a way to defend against mashers (although still not as good as VF, by far)
VF can\'t be touched, I don\'t think it will ever happen until some company decides to make a game called Virtual Fighting and just ports over the game directly with a little more speed, few more combos, and better graphics.

I agree somewhat. In my opinion both DoA games was total crap and Tekken follows behind them. I enjoy the Tekken series, don\'t get me wrong. But, for me it is still too shallow. I perfer VF in the so called "3d" realm. But, overall the best fighter in my opinion remains the Street Fighter series.

I agree with that up to a point, and that is why I prefer DOA over Tekken, however, if you are really really good at Tekken you can still beat even the worst button mashers. My gf is absolutely amazing at Tekken 3 - it\'s the only game she plays on the PSX, and there\'s a TTT machine at our University campus and she anahilates opponents there.
I remember vividly she was playing some guy at University, the idiot picked Eddy and Jin and she absolutely slaughtered him. The guy, obviously feeling kind of stupid for loosing to a girl, looks at her sheepishly and said, "I guess I need more practice."
And then she looks at him, and quite sincerely says; "Don\'t pick Eddy, he telegraphs his moves". :) I refuse to play her in Tekken.
But I agree with inteq\'s comments, unless you\'re a Tekken god it\'s very hard to beat button mashers on a consistent basis, while in DOA2 the countering system allows you to keep the button mashers at bay.

jeez, you thing DOA is anti scrub?? well it is the most scrub friendly game out there. The only thing you do is counter counter and counter again. Smashing is easy, since there are hardly any real juggle combos, just some P,P,K combos. Tekken has much to learn. After playing an hour with DOA I find myslef bored quickly. DOA is all bout eye candy and boobs not about gameplay.
I agree! VF is very deep, but so is tekken. Tekken takes time to learn, it took me one year to succesfully pull of a triple EWGF or do Jullia\'s elbow combo\'s. Try bashing against an expert and see who wins?
BTW the only mashable characters are eddy and to some extend beak/bob. Just try some of the deeper characters like Jin and Jullia ;)
-
You can counter a counter, so if that is all someone keeps doing it would be easy to beat them.
-
I never said I liked DOA. It is actually the exact opposite. I hate it witha passion. I am just saying the average nobody wont know how to counter, so wont be able to beat an experienced person.
VF is simply the greatest. I hate Tekken because you are able to mash so easily it makes me sick. DOA and Tekken both suck donkey balls in my opinion, and Soul Calibur too. I played them all for about 2 weeks and said hell no and returned to 1996 with VF3.

are you a basher or something. Try putting some tought in tekken. Try doing some combo\'s tekken has a very steep learning curve. I\'ve been playing for 2 years now and finally I can do the really hard stuff..
If you want bashing goto MvC2
-
MvC2 was good, until everyone learned the ultra gay upper cut (x infinity) thing. So stupid.
SF3:3 was the best 2D fighter so far.
Tekken still sucks. I own the first. Played TTT in the arcade extinsively. But You cant get into it when some little punk thats like 5 comes in and beats tyhe pants off of you when you haver been playing it for quite some time.
Quite gay.

Go mortal combat for the snes just kidding

I prefer DOA2 to anything. I have played all the series but DOA2 is the most satisfying to me.
But what I have seen of DOA3 is not enough. If I see more of DOA3 and like it, I will probably buy an X.
If I can live without it then I\'ll just wait until they port it over. I can\'t imagine them not porting it no matter what they may say now.
I will buy Virtua Fighter 4. When\'s it coming out?
-
MVC2 is fun for simple pointless gameplay. No self-respecting Street Fighter guru would find himself claiming and betting on that game. Still, its a fun game to play .
In my opinion, the whole 3D fighters are sort of boring. Virtua Fighter kicks ass , somewhat. Tekken is fun, but seems to "random" for me. I like the game, don\'t get me wrong. I buy each one, but I have grown tired of them. Still, there is some skill required in Tekken, as I have been subjected to playing button mashers and beat them. And it is by no means easy to get a full 10 hit combo off alot of times.
On the other hand, the DOA series is button mashing. Sure, you can counter button mashers, but countering in that game is so easy its pointless. Take two DOA "gurus" (if there is such a thing with that series) and it will be nothing but countering. Lets face it, the game got popular because of the bouncing boobs..err..polygons.
;)
Personally, in my opinion anything with automatic or pre-deterimed combos sucks ass. Killer Instinct? Blah. Mortal Kombat 3 and so on? Ugh! Chain Combo\'s are where its at. That is why Capcom makes the finest fighting games out there.
A good Street Fighter player will clean house with a button masher.
And if you want to talk about original fighting games ? Two game series come to mind.
Bushido Blade.
Tobal No 1 & 2.
-
so whos your man on SF, Clip?
Mine is Ken, still after all these years.
He is faster than Ryu. Plus he has the Underground combo (as my nickname within the circuit goes) which is really the Shoryuken, plus a normal uppercut and a hadoken, I cant be touched.
We have tourneys at my local arcade all the time, we get like 20 guys abotu every friday to come and we play for like 3 hours straight. Oh Yeah! Can\'t wait for SF4! anyone who thinks the SFs have gone stale doesnt play them!

I never got the chance to play Tobal 2. I wasn\'t too crazy about Tobal 1 but it was a nice change. So you want to talk old-school SF huh? Well I\'m a Chun-Li man.
I would consider myself a DOA2 guru, and while countering is a major factor, as it stops endless Tekken-like combos, it also makes you as the aggressor mix your moves up to be more unpredictable.
-
I\'m surprised nobody has mentioned King of Fighters yet. I think it\'s the greatest fighting series ever.
-
You know the team that made the Tobal series and The Bouncer are working on that new fighting game for Xbox called Kakuto-X? I wonder if it will be any good, the videos for it are amazing.
-
of Course KoF is good, but it isnt an independent game. It is RBFF, FF, SS, WH, etc. A collection of fighters, very good, but not its own self.
and yes, I can hold my own in KoF too, take me on with Terry, I dare you :)

Ken, of course.
The Street Fighter series is nowhere near stale. Worst part of the series is some of the new characters they made. Some of them are just pretty damn lame.
Still, the gameplay can\'t be beat.
