Whever someone defends the Xbox they invariably end up invoking the tired spec argument. The Xbox is supposedly more powerful, thus it will crush the PS2. Do we REALLY require graphics 5 times more powerful than what we\'ve witnessed in GT3, or FFX, or even MGS2? Is it a necessity when weighing the merits of the opposing systems, or is the library the only criterion we should factor when making our decision? Let\'s FACE the facts. The PS2 will be the victor this generation. That is obvious to anyone with a brain, and the Xbox looks to lack the support that success in this market necessitates. So while you Microsoft fanatics harp about the unparralleled power of the Xbox, I\'ll be playing the amazing library of the PS2. And yes I\'m glad the Xbox received such a poor reception at TGS.
-
Not everyone cares about the graphics, at least that\'s not all they care about. I think graphics is the focus of many conversations because you can see a game\'s graphics long before you can experience its gameplay.
-
welll...... ok, this belongs in the console debating as for it will start a flame war one way or another, it all about the gameplay plain and simple, the reason X Box fans are so hyped is becuase of the graphics, not the games, thye are hypnotized and blind to the fact that if the graphics will be better then the ps2, it will be be great game, not for 1 time thinking, what if it turns out to be a sh!ty game? i have joined the MSXBOX forums not to long ago so that i may broaden my look at consoles and check ouT stuff from thier point of view. X box need more japan support or it will fail to make a scene over seas, that will be bad, and i am not trying to say that all x box fans are lke that, there are cool ones as well

It has yet to be seen if Xbox can even equal the graphics pumped out of the PS2. They have vastly different architecture, It\'s hard to compare specs.

look at is this way, PSone has probably the worst graphics of the 2 other consoles (N64 and Dreamcast) and still has WAY better games. I was blown away with the graphics in Sonic Adventure, but the game was lame as hell. Playstation will always be 2nd or 3rd in the console wars with the graphics, but #1 with gameplay which I personaly like better.

Hmm... I have to defend my PSone on this one... I happen to like the semi-realistic gritty feel to most of the PSone graphics... eg:Gran Turismo 1+2, Vagrant Story, FF8+9... I like the way it does colors and most of the newer games look pretty tight... SO There! :p
-
Great point. Despite its obvious technological deficiencies, the psONE provided me with inumerable hours of gaming bliss. I hope that experience is replicated with the PS2. I\'m just sick of the Xbox crowd. They remind me of the Dreamcast crowd. A bunch of elitist, pious pricks. No wonder most Sega fans are now newly converted Microsoft monks.
-
People care about graphics because of their money, or I
should say the money they invested in a certain console.
Sure they still can get a great gameplay experience from a 16 bit console. But it\'s a matter of getting quality visuals for money. If another console pops up with alo better grafx just after you bought one your gonna feel a
little bummed. Gameplay should be considered \'for granted\' in this point of view. We expect the console to provide those great \'gameplay\' games. But we want value for money as well and thus good graphics.
That\'s why there\'s the fenomenon \'fanboy\'. Everybody wants to know they bought the smartest deal. :thepimp:

\'Why do people like movies to be in color?\'
\'Why do people like cheese on their pizza?\'
\'Why do people like anything to drink besides water?\'
The premise of the thread is IMO retarded. Why would we get new systems if we didn\'t care about graphics?
BTW, I beg to differ on the \'PSones got better games\' arguement. There are as many classics on both N64, and DC (and for DC thats quite a feat, considering its less than 2 years old).
-
Most PSone games does have long hours of gaming time. PS2 have lots of short games, Like Star Wars StarFighter. I still play PSone game more than PS2 games. That is untill GT3 and MGS3 comes out. :D
-
And Futami, I would respond to the stupid statement you made, but due to the shear volume, I realize your to stupid to understand facts, so it\'d be a waste of time. \'Do we need games that look 5x better than GT3..\'... you need some sense slapped into you....
\'No, lets stop progression of in game graphics cause I\'m feeling insecure cause of Xbox!\'...

Sounds like a an elitist, pious Sony prick who seemed to like to rub specs and graphics and more power in the face of proud Dreamcast owners.
What a loser. Sony zealots complain when XBOX zealots rub specs in their face to prove a point so the Sony zealots rub the supposedly superior games in the XBOX zealots face. Just like when Sega zealots rub the games into a Sony zealots face when Sony zealots rub specs in theirs.
Grow up.

I couldn\'t agree more with EThugg, This is a lame thread,
it shows a typical fanboy, If you don\'t want better and better graphics go back to playing pong.
-
people like nice graphics, because then Lara Croft can have better boobies
...thats the only thing i can think of
i really dont think people care about graphics most of the time, its just what ends up being argued about when consoles havent launched yet
-
well..its the first thing you notice (basically the first impression) when a game is in development the only thing you can see is graphics, so people will judge the game on its visuals. This is the basic problem with casual gamers (you know the peeps who only buy EA soccer games) judge games on visuals and brand name (hence the FIFA series) . When a game looks **** , they wont buy it. They dont respect good 2d RPGs, They say chrono trigger sucks because it s 2d! WTF man look at the gameplay man. I also hate FFVIIIs grany graphics but the gamepley makes me come back for more ! :)
-
Hey N-Player, I didnt know you had a brother!! and a raving gay one too.

I think graphics are partially important to a game. Its always good to have some nice eye candy while your playing. Gameplay will always be the most important factor of a game. For example, FFVII is in my opinion the best rpg of all time (this is my opinion and my opinion only) Its battle system and set up was awesome plus story line was great too. Now it was the first FF for the playstation 1 and I still think it was the best. FFVIII had much better graphics but the gameplay and battle system sucked hardcore ass. Great graphics are always nice but to have a great game you need to have that kickass gameplay that keeps you coming back for more. Plus about the XBOX and all the people bashing on it. WHO CARES. ps2 will do great. Xbox is still yet to be determined on how it will fair in the gaming world. Whether it sucks or not , it doesnt matter. If you got a ps2, enjoy it, if you really think xbox is better then by all means go buy one when it releases. TO each their own.

Maybe they do and maybe that argument is tired but to sum it up no the Xbox won\'t crush the Playstation 2 but is it more powerful, you bet your arse it is. That isn\'t a knock against Sony by any means but rather technological progress which in all of the posts i\'ve ever seen you post, you have never brought yourself to admit that very obvious fact. Ironically you have little trouble using the same tired spec agument against Gamecube (6 Million PPS vs 66 Million PPS) to justify your abnormal obsession toward Playstation 2 as demonstrated in your last short stint at Gaming-Age.

Then by your logic do we even need anything more than an Atari 2600 to play fun games. The better the graphics the more immersive the gaming experience, quite simple. GT3 and FFX may look good (I don\'t think to much of MGS2 personally) but do you think they can\'t look better, are you saying we should forget about all successive generations of consoles and put our stake in the Playstation 2 as the ultimate entertainment device to last us till the end of Human history?

Victor of what, most Hardware sold at a loss...maybe, or victor of the best and most enjoyable games...very doubtfull. Sony could sell through 100 Million Playstation 2\'s (which they won\'t) but if there are no games that I am interested in then I couldn\'t give a fu[/i]ck. I\'d much rather settle for a cheap, kiddy Gamecube thats only sold through 5 Million if im going to get more enjoyment out of it.

So what amazing library would that be, anything other than MGS2, GT3 and FFX perhaps. While it is subject to change (and it will improve definatly) the present Playstation 2 games library leaves much to be desired, especially in comparison to what we\'ve seen in the past with the Dreamcast. To slander the Xbox lineup (a machine that doesn\'t basically exist yet) in the face of the current Playstation 2 games library is hypocrisy in it\'s purest form.

True , thats the standard tatic that very MS Fanboy uses just go to MSXBOx forum and see a full forum of them doing it.

this was the argument the Sega and nintendo Fanboys used against the PSX, they said the Deamcast and N64 was far more powerful than the PSX and they said it will be crushed. But the question is now where is the Dreamcast and N64 ?

Metal gear Solid 2 could of supported full anti alisi, but thank GOD Mr Hideo wanted GamesPLAY and not EYE CANDY !

a kind of good point BUT !
the main problem with MS Fanboys is that they assume that microsoft will have the same Sucess with the X box than they had with the Windows OS !
but correct me if i am wrong but wasn\'t the Windows OS a Monopoly ?
i.e. they never had any real compentition ?
Same MS Fanboys don\'t realise this !
The PS2 will be microsofts first real compentition, and correct me if i am wrong but SONy are not one for backing out of a Fight or laying down to other companyes.
p.s.
Please if your a fanboy and your going to point out how powerful MS is , please STOP !
ill think you find SONY has a bigger value than MS.
Don\'t confuse Bill gates PERSONAL WEALTH with Microsofts POWER !

The PS2 suits me fine. I don\'t require a negligible "progression" in graphics. I\'ve seen nothing on the Xbox, thus far, that justifies its purchase. And I\'ve certainly yet to observe a single game on the Xbox that approaches the visual splendor FFX embodies. Your argument supports my point competently. You\'re concerned with graphics. You\'re obsessed with specificiations, while I\'m interested in elevating the gameplay experience. But I\'ve read enough of your posts to conclude you\'re a worthless Xbox lackey so piss off.

**** YOU MOTHER****ER. Did you see me resort to crude expeletives to make a point??? NO. And then you cast your foul aspersions my way because you\'re too mentally handicapped to form a cogent argument? The PS2 already has provided me with hours of contentment. The PS2\'s graphics are more than adequate, and certainly compare quite favorably to anything on the Xbox. This is a PS2 forum asshole. I want the Xbox to be summarily dismissed upon its launch, and I suspect that will be the ultimate outcome. I hate you Xbox fanatics. Go to ****ing hell.

...no offense...but your reasoning has no logic...I mean...if a hypothetical console reach 100 Millions Units,it does mean it has Great Games, and an extensive and interesting variety of games...so...if you aren\'t interested,that\'s your personal business and I think people don\'t care about it! (...I\'m speaking in general)
I\'d much rather settle for a cheap, kiddy Gamecube thats only sold through 5 Million if im going to get more enjoyment out of it.
...again...it\'s pure Utopia...Game Cube will be a Great Console and I\'m confident it will reach far a bigger installed base than the N64! Why? It\'s a technological jewel and I think this time GC will have more support from Third party Developers!
...so...if you were interested on a kiddy console wich will reach only 5 Million Units ...again...it should mean you\'d be interested on a kiddy console with no great games :)...and a Great Console like NGC will capture our attention with wonderful games and will reach,as a result of it,a huge success=BIG installed base :D
...it\'s really a simple concept:D

Don\'t worry mate, Trin is a Fanboy through and through.
just give him a few more posts and he will be out on his @rse.
the X box will launch and it will sell, BUT !
it won\'t acheave as much of a wide fan base the Playstation 2 has enjoyed so far.
You see people are scared of the X box because it is far too close to a PC.
and as we all know most people just buy a console to play games, they don\'t want the hastle of upgrading or the having to download patches from cover disks and the internet.
in short the X box WILL face the same problem that the PS2 faced from launch day, the question is will they have the experiance to handle them as well as trying to sell there console ?
The PS2 is over the hard bit, it\'s launched and all we have to do is just sit back and wait for the games (and to buy th ones we don\'t have yet).
p.s.
if you think Trin is mentally handicapped , then you have not seen the crap posted on MSXbox forum ;).
