I hear that most peoepl are getting tired of the Final Fantasy Games. The fact being that even though each is different they are all relitivly the same. Somethign Darryl siad in a post sparked a thought.
DO you think Final Fantasy would be more interesting if you could see the enemies? If thier were no random battles. Battles could be handled like Secrets/Legends of Mana. Where you are walking and if you get to close to an enemy you enter a battle mode.
. . .Or. . .
You have a botton to press mayber L3 to ingage in battle. Monsters can still ingage you also but they would have to get close to you to do so.
I know that none of this is possible in FF X. And FFXI is supposed to be in the vein of PSO(Phantasy Star Online) but FF XII is still open for change. And I beleive has just resently gone under consrtuction. I know. . . I know. . . I should stop rambling and voicing meaningless garbage.
-
I like your ideas better than just random battles. They get kinda old fast.
-
I would like to be able to see enemies ahead, but just the same you have to believe some enemies will sneak up on you as well.
-
I would like the idea of world-map with height-difference, and that you could only see the monsters in your vision-area. Then enemies could sneak on you. It\'d be really cool, because if it\'d be night, certain monsters would appear, and you\'d have to look very hard to spot one.
-
You now what I jsuty realized. Square hasn\' shown us if thier is a world view yet. Id assume it would be liek the Technical demo exsept you would have a world map some where. I just checked all the movies and none had the slightest glimps of how they are going to do the World View. I hope thier is one or should I say there better be one. It would jsut take all the fun out of most of it if thier were not one.
-
I read about the FFX world map somewhere. Can\'t remember where though. =/
-
Yeah I read about it also. I think they mentioned something about it being the same as the town maps.
The view is supposed to remain unchanged so that goinng out of the towns and cities is seamless.
I\'m not sure what this means though. Its pretty obscure. Whether you\'ll walk around ala Zelda or have some kind of vehicle I don\'t know. I don\'t imagine they could make the maps proportional, that would be crazy.
-
From videogames.com;
"The field map, for the most part, is rendered in full 3D, though the camera can\'t be rotated. The 3D world can become confusing at times, as portions were filled with rocks and other obstacles. Relying on the radar is significantly easier. The radar has color-coded arrows, where yellow is your character, white marks are save or healing points, and the red leads to the next plot point. The camera angles during cutscenes and battles have improved, using some wild camera angle shots. In field maps, whenever there are treasure chests, it shows the character kneeling down and actually opening the chest."
-
That would be beyond crazy. I\'ve vhevked all the links I have. Even checked the Play online site. I can\'t find it anywhere. All well its not that important. I had imagined they would do it as kangu siad a seemless transition. I\'ll take all of you words for it. Then agian i might have read somehtign and just forgot.

I think they should stop making sequels that aren\'t connected in anyway to the previous game. \'Final\' fantasy is pretty explicit in its title. Make a new series....

Naw dude, FF all shares the same theme, the fact it has nothing to do with its predecesor is why it has lasted till 10
The fact the FF has name brand recognition also allows for FF to have a very large budget as well.
I do agree that Square should invest into new franchises but it doesn\'t have to come at the expense of FF for Square.
-
I think they should insert a system like Wild Arms 2.
In Wild Arms 2, when you got to a certain level hight than the enemy that would face you in a randowm battle, an exclamation sign appeared over your head and if you didnt want to engage in battel, you hit square, and it would cancel the random battle.
I thought that was a great idea and I loved it.

Whats so special about making it to 10? If the games relying on tired gameplay, and name recognition, it deserves to end.

Geez, EThugg, what\'s up with all the negativity? It can\'t be healthy. :)

Final Fantasy 10 is just another game from a long line of similar games True[/i]
Square Soft is doing this just for cheap profit False [/i]
The reason for this is due to the fact that they are just building on the success of previous games, i live the Final Fantasy series.
Just because they all follow the similar path, dose not mean that this is a boring series.
but if you ask me i think the fact that Final Fantasy 11 is going to be like Phantasy Star Online, makes me happy at least, this shows that square soft has a long term plan for this great series.
-
They should make it like Grandia 2\'s fighting system...that was the most fun I\'ve had through out the battles. They never got boring either...(in case you don\'t know, the enemies were on screen) you could sneak up and get the upper hand, or they could suprise you and whoop your ass. It was always different, and the cancel feature was brillant...
Well, I don\'t want to sit here and explain it, but anyone who\'s played Grandia 2 knows what I\'m talking about...
-
I suppose visible monsters would be okay... (Yet I can\'t forget those very stupid looking thingies running around the screen in Grandia. It was very very naff.) But what I would really like would be a system that allowed you not to engage in the battles if you didn\'t wanna. I mean, it\'s kinda weird how those little weaklings (meaning the monsters) always want to fight the party. It\'d be better if it was YOU who chose wheter to fight or not. It would be useful especially when you were hurting and in need of some healing potions.
And FF most certainly does not deserve to end, because each game is an individual. Maybe they don\'t change that much but, if it ain\'t broke, don\'t fix it. I love FF and wouldn\'t want to see it change too much.

I just think Square needs to grow some balls and stop milking a franchise. Is it that hard to make up a new name? Is it that hard to make the games less similar gameplay wise? How about some *gasp* innovation? Guess not, the is Square. They stopped being innovative a long time ago.

as long as the games are good, who cares?
I don\'t wanna hear any of that it sucks stuff, cause there are millions of people who like it, that\'s a fact, nothing you can do about it.
And why would square be stupid enough to take the risk with changing the concept when the concept they have now sells like crazy?
-
I can\'t believe what I\'m hearing! Has the world gone mad??? Why be innovative when you can have commercial success???? Good games compared to what? The great games they could be making if the weren\'t too busy making cash runs and turning out regular sequels? I.... can\'t.... come..... back..... to... this.... thread.............. inane logic..... taking over thread...... it\'s...like.... kryptonite.... *gasp*........
-
read my statement a bit better, will ya, I said millions of people like the current concept, so you can stick to the concept, I didn\'t say change nothing at all, just keep the concept! duh!

So your still saying its ok to not be innovative cause the masses are happy with the status quo.... not a good idea. If there was no innovation, we\'d still be content with Atari....
-
I appreciate inovation, without innovation not much would be better, but I say, let final fantasy be the way it is, cause it\'s good the way it is (for me, in any case)

If they want a regular series though, they should at least give it a name that makes sense, and use a(somewhat more) consitant \'world\'. They can make a million Tobals, but be consistant.
-
i like the alundra style of rpg i.e non turn based like zelda 2
-
First of all I did like Grandia 2\'s battle system exsept for the fact alter in the game I would use spell after spell and the real powerful ones always had the longest animation.
And i beleive Square is being inavative and are darn well using thier "balls" as you put it to explore new frontiers. Thew fact is they are the best at RPG\'s. (I meen this only in the sence that withen themselves they are the best). Does anyone Remmember Driving Emotion S? The Bouncer? Didn\'t they also have a baseball game also? They do release RPG\'s that are not FF also. And as I recall they dont plan to make sequals to most of them. Xenogears, Front Mission, mana series, to name a few.
And every FF has been different. From, the battle system, the magic system, story development, character growth, from 2d to 3d, from pre-rendered to real time. I dont force anyone I know to play FF. But I cant seem to understand how you can say they are not inovative.
it was inovation that cause them to move from the 64 to the PSOne. Its Inovation that causes them to Make FF XI online.
Lastly I do respect everyones opinions and will always. but to me. Square does not have "tired gameplay" and does not "deserve to end."

Square is aware of this, but they simply don\'t care. Since every FF title usually sells well over a million. why waste a good cash making phenomenom? They\'ve tried to be innovative with games like Xenogears, and Vagrant Story but it those two games sold a significantly less copies than any FF PSX game. Its all about bringing in the dough and they know that and thats why they keep pushing and milking the FF series( there will probably be 5-10 more FF games between now and the next April...I heard this straight from this place). The people at Square at money stealing hoes, but they don\'t care since they\'re making millions.
Yes I agree, they SHOULD make new series but they just don\'t have the similar success of the FF series so we\'ll probably see it around for ten more years... I actually liked some of their other games besides FF. Xenogears, Chrono Cross, and Vagrant Story were all better than any FF game to date IMO of course. I hope the FF series dies so then Square can go back to the drawing board and make some better games.

That would be nice.

I completely agree. They should just steal that kind of design...

Jumpman
I agree with your Vagrant Story analogy, a great innovative game that the Japanese didn\'t care for and only got moderate success in the States. Yet the game scored perfect from Famitsu
Pisses me off.
Ethugg
Your missing the point. Square ending the Final Fantasy franchise would be a complete business **** up.
Square needs to innovate and they can and should do this with other games. Its obvious the FF formula is still enjoyed by millions, and as long as there are millions of FF fans there is no reason to ending it to make Ethugg happy.
You don\'t like the game don\'t buy it, Most of us won\'t hesitate for some FF goodness.
-
Caspien-Bouncer, Driving Emotion T-S and the baseball games were criticly ripped apart for huge flaws.
And 2 or 3 new features in a series that has 10 parts isn\'t that great. Again, I DONT HATE FF GAMES. I just think they should make a new series with each one sinse they\'re totally unrelated. And each one would/could/should have a more individual gameplay style. If they want FF10, use the same world at least!
ddaryl:No, YOU missed MY point. Sure it makes financial sense. It doesn\'t make artistic sense. And most companies (including Square) want to call video game creation an art form. They need to treat it like one.

FF is not going to go against its proven formula
Thats what new games are for. Allowing FF to follow its roots and appeal to the masses that like them is sensible. Square has only one mission for FF, and that to make FF fans happy.
Square can and should create a few new non-sequel title that show off some innovative areas, and if these games become succesful then they become there own franchises
As for Artisitc sense, the lush 3D world will serve the artisitc purpose, along with cutscenes and storyline.
Now if Square does nothing but pump out sequels with better graphics then I will be pissed as much as the next hardcore gamer.
I have a feeling a radical change to FF to accomodate westerners would alienate Japanese consumers. Being that FF is succesful in all regions screwing with the balance would alientate one or the other regions which is the dillema of this type of game.
For expample MGS2 which the Japanese don\'t care for, and for Europe and AMerica its held isn high regard.
I was hoping they\'d make some changes to FF battle system. They made some minor changes but unfortunatley no overhaul.
-
Again, I know Square WONT do anything Ive said. And I dont have a problem with sequels that are related, but each FF has little to do with the last outside of the engine. Pick a single game \'universe\' and stick with it. I personally like FF7&0 a lot, and I\'d like the characters and their world to have its own series from the start. It\'s simple. new universe, new series. They can have one single \'universe\' with a lot of different characters that can last. Look at Star Wars. It\'s one universe. That\'s all I mean.
-
I completely disagree, the same characters and world wold become so stale the franchise would have never made it this far.
FF having new worlds everytime is part of it uniquness.
You have your opinion, but I like the new worlds, new characters, new storylines
-
I like different worlds in different series\', not in the same one. Oh well, we just disagree.
-
So Ethug, You want more of a breath of fire world. Where the same characters come back but in different stories. same "world" just different geographics.
-
Yes, exactly! I love BoF.
-
You bring up a topic that alot of Square fans want. They want to Square to create Squels to games in FF. true Sequels. You siad you like FF7 right? I hear most fans complain that thats can\'t possibly be the end. Shinra was an entire coorperation. Killing a few men wont get ride of it completly. Sure Sehp is dead. No meteor and all. but one of the prime evils is still thier. They oculd build on a story form that.
