I\'m sometimes overprotective about it.
For example when I accidently touch it
a little rough I can get mad at myself.
A thorough inspection follows, and of
course nothin really happened but I declare
it \'scrap\' already. Then I cool down, days pass
by and everything slowly reverts back to normal.

I haven\'t even banged up my Ps2 yet and it already stopped reading cds. anyone else have this problem? It reads dvds but not cds.
My psx got knocked of the table daily, got a 2 litre bottle of pepsi spilt on it as well as a few other things and it was running great when i got my ps2.

You know it\'s funny to hear all this.  But i don\'t even want my box to get smash. We all are like this is because the PS2 is so hard to get one.   :D

I think the ps2 is a sturdy piece of machinery. At first I was kinda overprotective of it. I used to cover it with a blanket to make sure it doesnt get cold at night. Wake up in the middle of the night to make sure it was still there and I wasn\'t just dreaming that I had a ps2. But now I just let it sit on my counter. There it is now, sitting there comfortably slowing collecting dust on the top. Of course I wipe the dust off every once in a while. None the less the PS2 is a pretty solid piece of machinery. :D

Well for those who remember the video when some guys (Daily Radar I think) destroyed a PS.2.They beat it with a baseball bat, threw it out a window and drove over it.It withstood everything until they had driven over it for like the 2nd time or something.

I\'m certainly not for "tossing the unit around" (I mean, face it, would you toss around *any* DVD player, etc. in your entertainment center?) b/c frankly the laser, etc. is a precisely set item and bang it around and you get misadjustment...and "read disc error"...bleh!

But, at the same time, I\'ve carried my PS2 to numerous destinations (relatives homes during christmas, upstairs/downstairs of own home, and without a doubt most worrisome would be plane trips to KY & other out-of-state locations).  ANYTIME I carry the unit somewhere, I pack it in a "laptop-designed backpack" I purchased from Office Depot.  Its very well padded.  Has numerous pockets, etc. for all controllers, cords, memory cards, and a zip up CD wallet of all my PS2 & "best" PSX games for the road...  Very nice setup.

And again, when I arrive at my destination, although I don\'t "drop" my PS2-ladened backpack on the floor, I can be fairly assured that little jostles will leave it unaffected in transit.

its a highly sensitive piece of electronics

I wouldn\'t "throw around" my receiver, TV or PC.

C\'mon, you drop it, knock it over don\'t expect it to work

Iam glad iam not the only one thats slightly over protective with my PS2. The second I took it out of the box I was super careful with it...... I wiped it every 30 minutes (like 45 times a day) It collects dust so quickly. Finnaly I just decided it to put a damn blanket on it( sort of , don\'t get me wrong it\'s not a sleeping blanket or anything) Now it doesn\'t collect dust. =) Except on the sides. The reason I hate dust is because when I bought my computer a year ago I didn\'t collect dust on the out side , I guess because it is white. Like a month ago I bought extra ram for it and I opened it up and I could hardly see through the dust, my fan was barley moving and I pretty much had to vacume the inside. Since than I took dust seriously hehe.

Well it\'s not only dust I worry about. The fact that the cd-rom opens out is driving me crazy(not like a open up cd case on PS) . My PS2 is pretty low to the ground (not on the ground but at around my knees), so every time I open the cd-rom Iam afraid I might hit the cd-rom and rip it of.

I think we are all pretty protective with our PS2\'s because it\'s not just a console(dvd also) and lets face it , it wasn\'t exactly cheap.

My PS2 for some reason just in last 3 days has been doing the same thing.  Well, it still reads all DVDs perfectly, movies and games on the DVD format, and it also reads music CDs just fine.  Nothing wrong at all.

Then in the last 3 days it stopped playing CD-rom based games.  Like Timesplitters and my MGS2 demo and my SSX copy wouldn\'t work at all.  I got the "Disc read error"  It really pissed me off.  So, I though that maybe it was just some rare chance that all of my games were scratched, which they\'re perfect on the back(I\'m very careful with discs), I put in some old PSX games and none of them worked.  Then just last night I stick in the MGS2 demo and it booted up just fine.  After I was done I was in the mood for some multiplayer Timesplitters with my Bro and it wouldn\'t work.  I tried the MGS2 demo again and couldn\'t get it to work.  It hasn\'t worked since.

I am extremely pissed right now.  I think my warranty is up.  Haven\'t read all of the exact info on it yet but isn\'t the warranty only 90 days?  Maybe less...

Anyway I am so pissed off right now!  Happen to anyone else?  I tried Diagnostics and all too and it did nothing.

My personal theory is that the laser is seeing the CD format for games as invalid.  It can\'t be a broken oscillator because it reads my music CDs just fine.  This is really pissing me off though.

I am so MAD!!!!!!!!!!   F*ck Sony right now.  Pieces of Sh*t.  Ahhhhhh!!!!

Oh yeah, I have also been very gentle and careful with my system.  I haven\'t move it at all.  It is dusted I think every other day by me and it has never been bumped or shoved or anything.

Well I\'m not sure about the PS2 (I\'ve never hauled it aroundor anything) but it looks like it has a pretty solid piece of plastic incasing it.

But I definitely feel the build quality onthe PSX is way lower. Plastic just kind of looked cheap, and mine kind ofratled when I shook it. I\'mdefinitely more confortable with the durability of the PS2 (still wouldnt throw it around though, but I never do that to any of my systems, except maybe the NES, getting the cartriges to load on that thing is right up there with the lost martial arts of Wu dan) or something :)

The PS2 warranty is for a year. I know because mine died and I read all the warranty clauses. Ring up sony tech support and you\'ll have to send it off for repairs. I got mine back after 2 and a half weeks.

The thing is give it a couple of years, and you wont give it a second thought about moveing it around.
One other thing i forgot to mention is i have a bad temper and a short one at that, anyway when i use to get angry at my PSX games,i would hit my ps1 real hard, but i will never ever do that with my PS2,does anyone else do that with there old ps1?

I use to do this to my original NES.  I was much younger then and my anger sometimes got the best of me.  I even cracked a piece of plastic off that old machine once.  It really could take a beating.  Now, I think I have matured much since then and never get over angry at a game, no matter how frustrating it is.  I would never dream of smacking my PS2 though, $300 + Tax is quite a bit of money to me.
