Sammo Signs on Soul Calibur

Industry: Sammo Hung is set to direct the upcoming movie based on Namco\'s excellent fighting game, Soul Calibur.

The "official" news comes form the Sammo website and says that there isn\'t much information available yet since the deal was signed on March 29.

Budget for the movie has been set at around $50 million with location shoots taking place in Eastern Europe and China.

Shooting is scheduled to begin later this year, with a release planned for summer 2002.

This may come out pretty cool if they do it right.  Sounds pretty cool and has a big budget to work with.  I can\'t wait to see nightmare on the big screen.

Did this game really warrant a movie? I don\'t think so.
Anyone notice the latest game-to-movie craze?

I know most videogames movie suck(street fighter, mario bros., etc).

yeah street fighter movie was ****..

but i think mortal combat movie was barable.. ( i think there was a MC2 also.. ).

I hate those \'game to movies\' movies! They almost always suck. No real plot, no nothing. Why do they have to make that crap....

Yeah. The first was decent, but the second was total trash comparable to Street Fighter: The movie.

I say we leave the game-to-movie translations alone. The Resident Evil movie is going to suck. I have very little faith in the Tomb Raider movie, beyond Angelina Jolie. The only one that looks half-way promising in my opinion is the Final Fantasy movie.

yeah FF movie should be OK, but when i watched the trailer i was a bit disapointed, it felt like a normal hollywood block-buster movie and not like a \'square\' movie. but still i think i will like the special effects they will put into it..

Laura craft should look nice , but i don\'t think a movie can be good if it just depends on laura\'s looks... i hate the story of tobm raider.. it\'s redicluse.
