Title: gameplay to be the real advantage of the xbox.proof. ps nplayer eat your heart out!
Post by: on April 05, 2001, 05:30:27 PM
CTF: It\'s not been that long but it feels like a lifetime, how does it feel to be back?

Microsoft: It\'s awesome to be back! Our team is stronger than ever, with a great mix of Fever veterans and talent we\'ve hired from outside Microsoft to help us make the transition from PC to console development as seamless as possible.

CTF: How many members are on the Fever X team now?

Microsoft: We have about 35 full-time people dedicated
to NFL Fever 2002.

CTF: The name, NFL Fever. A lot of people kept saying Microsoft Football. So they either never knew about the PC version or even had us thinking a name change of some sort. We asked before and have never received an answer. Where did the name originate from?

Microsoft: Choosing a name is always a tricky thing. We want a name that portrays the raw intensity, attitude, and impact of our NFL experience, and we believe NFL Fever does exactly that.

CTF: What\'s been the hardest part of NFL Fever\'s port to the super machine? I read only the "AI" was ported correct? Everything else is first build?

Microsoft: That\'s correct. We built all of our graphics, audio, and the user interface from the ground up, specifically to exploit the incredible horsepower of the Xbox and to address the needs of a console audience. For the game logic and AI, however, we started with the core of our NFL Fever PC game. This gave us a solid base for gameplay, and is allowing us to make amazing improvements, as well.

CTF: The graphics are really very tight as expected, in fact, the player faces seem to be scanned photos and look very much like their counterpart. The Craig Hentrich screen comes to mind. How many or what ratio of player faces are we talking here?

Microsoft: We have loads of different facial textures and facial geometries, which we can combine to accurately reflect all the players\' faces.

CTF: The eyes. No joke, they really move? That has to be dynamic to see a middle linebacker sizing up the formations across the line. A first in football video gaming history correct?

Microsoft: We believe our implementation of intelligent eye-tracking is a first, and we\'re very excited about how much it adds to the gamer\'s experience.

CTF: So we have dynamic player movement paired with DPPM (Dynamic Player Performance Model). Now is DPPM just a fancy word for player ratings or are these guys really going to think? Please tell us as much as you can about DPPM, no really, as much as you can. This really intrigues me.

Microsoft: The DPPM is a system that allows us reflect the ups and downs of NFL player performance over the season by incrementally increasing and decreasing the player\'s attributes from game to game based on their in-game statistics. On most games, if your favorite team is one of the weak teams in the game and you choose to use them in a Dynasty or Season Mode you will have to make several trades before the season starts to make them competitive for opening day. By the time you play your first game, your team doesn\'t even resemble the real NFL team in personnel. It will be fun for users to take control of their favorite team and turn them into a competitor by playing well. This RPG element also gives you the opportunity to turn a rookie into a superstar.

CTF: Fever X seems like it\'s cutting right down the middle. Depth for the hardcore and gameplay for the casual. Correct? How "deep" is this game? If I may ring out a few one liners at you guys. Dynasty Mode. Classic Superbowl teams. All Time Challenge, classic teams. Does this mean you have NFLPA contracts or will it be "tackle by LB #56"?

Microsoft: Your assessment is very accurate, depth for the hardcore gamer and raw gameplay for the casual gamer. To answer your question of exactly how deep, here is an example of the career of one player. You can draft a rookie in our off-season draft, perform well and turn him into Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year, as he leads your team to a Super Bowl Title and collects Super Bowl MVP honors. Once the Super Bowl is over you can take him to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii as he catches some sunshine before preparing to dominate another season and ultimately get his jersey retired, break NFL records, and reach the Hall of Fame. We are currently working with the NFL and NFLPA on the specifics for representing retired players.

How come you have a picture and you have only 14 posts? Also, the Eyes move in Madden 2001, so this game is going to be no better. Who cares about the faces, its just another way of X-Box saying our graphics are better, but our gameplay will suck ass.

Dunno about the gameplay, but graphically it doesn\'t hold a candle to Madden, and the Xbox.com pictures of NFL Fever were loaded with jaggies... how\'s irony when it bites ya in the ass:D

To be fair though, it looks like **** when compared to the other XBox games.

I will give u that madden 2001 for ps2 is far the best football game out. It was the best ps2 game for me it is what drew me closer to ps2:D But I will say this in defense for nfl fever it is incomplete and has more time to be developed. Until we see the end product there is not much we can say.

Actually the general consensus is that NFL2K1 is the best football game out. Go check videogames.com\'s year end awards, EGM\'s awards, and go compare scores for the two games.

NFL2K1 was the EGM readers and reveiwers sports game of the year. Remember its not always how the game compares to others but how it will stand up itself. We far too many times in certain types of eye candy compare the fact that in this game you can see thier fingers move or the grass in the helmet. This might help to imagine that the game is more realistic however the true test of any game is to immerce you in another world where you feel like you have become part of the game. The great games can do this.
