I\'m thinking about buying a mini stereo system something like this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000050XQA/qid=986681591/sr=1-3/002-3734606-7969667
Is there any way that I could get the PS2\'s sound to go through the speakers instead of the TV\'s speakers?(sorry i\'m an audio idiot)

No Problem! You can put the audio therought the RCA stereo plugs (left and right (AKA Red and White plugs on the front or back)) I had to get a RF converter box to get my audio through my stereo due to not having rca plugs on my TV then split the audio to the Stereo...and the video to the rf converter and the stereo so I have audio through both the TV and stereo. If you need more help just ask. I an make a diagram, BTW where in Ohio do you live?

Yeah sure make a diagram.
I live in Avon. A small town near Westlake and about 25 mins. from Cleveland.

Sure, it\'s easy. Just not with the particular stereo you\'re looking at. If you look on the back of your PS2 you\'ll see a small hole that has a flap over it near the bottom (if it\'s standing vertical) or left end(if it\'s sitting horizontal). That\'s a connection for a fiber optic line.
If you check the "technical details" of that system you\'re looking at, you\'ll see it doesn\'t support "Optical Digital Input". Also to get 5.1 surround you\'ll need a stereo that also supports "Dolby Digital 5.1 Decoding".
Usually a stereo has these 2 attributes together. Just make sure whatever you get supports Optical Digital Input and you\'ll be fine.

Anybody have any good stereo suggestions?

^VCR (you can do that)
PS2--->A/B Switcher--->|------>RF Modulator----->Audio&Video ----------->TV
YOu can get the Switcher from radio shack and the RF modulator (if you dont have the RCA jacks on your TV from Best Buy (I know there are some around.......)
If you have the RCA jacks on your TV just bypass the RF modulator, you will need 2 Splitters one female end and 2 female ((it looks like a "Y") they are like 2 bucks at Radio Shack)), r the audio so one line can go to the stereo and one to the TV.
Hope this Helps

Man it\'s hit and miss. If you like having a mini-system then check out Best Buy or Circuit City and sometimes Sears has good deals.
My brother-in-law has an old Aiwa that\'s about 3-4 years old that supports Dolby Digital, but he had to send it in for repairs so I don\'t recommend Aiwa.
But there are decently priced systems out there.
