Title: Is Z.O.E. worth getting?
Post by: DeezNuts on April 09, 2001, 03:42:18 PM
I really just want the M.G.S.2 Demo, but Z.O.E. not the type of game I would usually purchase.  Basically I\'m just asking if I do buy it, is Z.O.E. going to suck?  Should I just wait for Metal Gear Solid 2 to come out this fall?

I\'d pay like 20 bucks for MGS demo (cdn).   I paid, therefore, 45 bucks (cdn) for ZOE, and it was totally worth it.  That\'s how I would put it.

Skip it! Borrow the demo from someone or wait. ZOE is really stupid IMO. No skill or thought required and IMO subpar graphics and a boring ass story.

I like ZOE and the fact it comes with a MGS2 demo makes it more than worth it.

The Graphics are far from subpar, (I have no idea what Ethugg is talking about)

Storyline is weak, battles get repetitive, but boss fights are fun. The game is fun

What\'s so great about the graphics? The jaggies on detailed (smaller/thinner) objects, the super blurry larger objects/textures, or the super snazzy  \'motion blur\'? Maybe that greenish light that occasionally runs up and down the mech impresses you. IMO, playing with deadly snakes is more fun...

The building in the cities look pretty damn good, the mech themselves look fantastic

I never said they we\'re the best ever but you said they we\'re subpar and thats funny

and yes the green light that moves up and down the mech does impress me. I think that looks pretty damn cool.

I recommend that you just rent it.  There is no reason to buy I game that you are not interested in just to get a demo of a game.  It will also save you $45. :)

Ok, maybe i\'m being a bit extreme, but I think it looks like a ok DC game at best. Certainly not what a (says some...) \'2nd gen\' PS2 game should look like.

EThugg, while the game doesn\'t have the most impressive graphics I\'ve ever seen, it does still look nice. The graphical quality certainly isn\'t crappy; I don\'t think ddaryl was being irrational at all when he said they are far from subpar.

edit: Argument is already over; I suck. :P

I own the game; I think it was worth the money spent.

Dude, this comes down to you.  I personally loved both the demo and z.o.e.  It was definitely worth MY money.   Though I\'m not so sure about the American translation of the game, or how corny it sounds in english (I hear it sounds corny, but I don\'t know cause I got the Jap version).  But the gameplay is superb!  The graphics are really imaginative, especially the awesome mecha, which move at an awesome framerate.  Isn\'t that what makes a game?  It\'s all about the gameplay, and this game hit the spot with me.  I just wish the main character wasn\'t a stupid little kid running like a retard around the city blindly following orders from people he\'s never met.  Couldn\'t we get a more mature, cooler main character then him?

well, that\'s my only complaint.  It\'s up to you to decide if you want it or not.

Yeah, a cooler main character, like.....Solid Snake! j/k

Oh, and yes, Leo\'s voice is annoying as hell. But not so bad as to ruin the game.

All in all its a great game, and hell yeah its worth it.

all depends if you love mgs2 or not because ZOE itself is only worth a rent

I finally had a few hours to myself this afternoon and I finally finished ZOE - despite the slight voice acting problems I thought the game was very good. It\'s not the longest game ever but I thought it was a lot of fun while it lasted. While it is essentially, as EThugg said a while a go, \'robots slapping robots\' - who knew robot slapping could be so fun! The best part of the game is definately the various bosses who are really impressive.

While I loved ZOE (and of course the MGS2 demo), I still finished ZOE on the normal difficulty in 5hrs and 11 minutes, I felt it was value for money just because I had so much fun and I will play through it again to get a better rating, however your best bet would just be to rent ZOE and see if it\'s your cup of tea before splashing the cash just for the MGS2 demo.

Get Zone of Enders - as no matter what someones say, it has really great graphics, and if compared to the speed the game runs in... incredible is a word you\'ll hear yourself say numerous times on your journey trough Z.O.E. :)

And of course MGS2 -demo makes the game even more valuable, but I wouldn\'t buy it just for the demo - and I didn\'t have to, \'cause I love the game, its fast paced tempo - and it might get a bit repetitive towards the end - but it\'s ok, as you will gladly go it trough and then again - on harder difficulties.

I\'m just back from the mall, I bought ZOE (japanese version) and B&W

ZOE is amazing, I dont need to read all the japanese since the gameplay and story is pretty straightfoward. Ethugg is bul****ting, the graphics are great, the battles are fun and the story is okay. I really like the techno soundtrack of the game, it really fits the game and is much better than the horrible music from AC2.

Go buy it!

So the 13 PS2 games i have atm are for decoration, right? ZOE sux, period. Only person I know in person who likes it is 8 yrs old. If you all are 8, and so easily amused, fine, but ZOE comes up short in every area.

ZOE is generally a POOR game!

The graphics are great, the framerate is high, the MGS 2 demo is nice. Is that worth £40, nope!

The actual gameplay, the stuff which counts is missing, at first you will think ZOE is great, being blinded by the cool graphics and fast paced action, then after playing for 30 minutes you will relise that its poor.

The same enermies, poor voice acting, poor story, same gameplay throughout and then over in 5 hours will leave you wishing you had bought something else.

The MGS 2 demo is class but I feel some of the fans of ZOE on this board are trying to convince themselves that ZOE is good because they feel they have wasted their money.

ZOE at best is an OK game, there is better for the PS2 however.

If you want to pay £40 for the demo then do, but I wouldn\'t pay £40 for ZOE expecting it to live upto the hype.

- This is just my opinion so please don\'t flame :D -

Zoe is an "OK" game, although
it could have been a real classic if
they would put more time and effort into
it. The robot fights remind me of Robotech,
and how Max and his future wife were
in the arcade and fighting it out !
Graphics are great, the gameplay
is lacking somewhat.

I got it when it came out,
mostly because of the MGS2 Demo.
Although i think i would have gotten it
cause i like anime...

I actually thought the voice acting was good.  I think I\'ve played a little too much Resident Evil though. :D

Sorry, everybody, but this game is definitely worth buying.  I played the MGS demo twice, and then put in ZOE and haven\'t stopped playing it.  The battles are just fun.  You people expect every game to be freakin\' Final Fantasy; you want a game to last 75 hours and drag you kicking & screaming through random battles and very long story segments.  Don\'t get me wrong, I like RPG\'s; my point here is that ZOE is not an RPG.  It is a straight-up action game about big fighting robots, for Christ\'s sake!  The action is fast, the graphics are great, and the action is repetitive only if you insist on doing the same thing to every enemy.  I haven\'t beaten it yet, so I can\'t speak for replay value, but all in all, I can\'t say too much negative about this game (other than the fact that Leo is kind of a whiny brat, and a little annoying).  This is just another case of some of the people here not having any fun playing video games again; seems like lots of people on the board don\'t have anything good to say about any games, yet have posted hundreds of times.  A little puzzling...

I just got this game and Yes Z.O.E is worth buying.  Graphics look real good.  The back grounds looks ok.  The controls is very smooth!  Now the MGS2 demo,  You start on the deck of the ship, it\'s raining and that the coolest part.   I was looking at the rain falling on the ship and was stunned.  I also notice that the ships smoke stack, the smokes blows with the wind direction. I look up and down on the deck befor i went inside the ship for items.  I found health and a wet-box.  The wet-box was funny!  I put a solder to sleep with a dart and drag him by the left side of the ship and theres a gate and you can fly him over board in the water.  The best part was when i put a solder to sleep and drag him in the locker room and put him in the lockers,  I found a gun with bullets in one of the lockers.  Going in the bar room,  I look closely at the wine bottles and seen the detail on them.  I shot some and crack the bottles.  I you look at the magazines, some look like porno type.  You have to go in first person  view and look at them.   I like the first person view when i fire the gun at the solders. I\'m playing this demo all day.  I have not pass the demo yet.  I\'m enjoying the details on the game. (looking around more) :D

The demo is the only thing that makes it worth buying. If it didnt come with the demo, I would call it more a rental than anything. Its just too repetetive to be worth the money without the demo.

I\'ll honestly say that ZOE is not all that IMO. Granted, I\'ve only gotten the chance to play it for about 30 minutes, so I haven\'t dug into it.. but it feels like The Bouncer for Mechs. Then again I also bought The Bouncer, but I like tossing money away. :) Oh well, I can\'t truly evaluate it because I haven\'t spent enough time on it. Just a first impression.

I on the other hand like ZOE alot,so I think I\'ll invest in the Bouncer it seems like my kind of game.
