Title: Sony is screwing me and a bunch of people over!!!

Don\'t think I\'m bashing the PS2.  I\'m not...I love my system.  I am bashing Sony in general right now.  They put out so many crappy machines at launch it is ridiculous.  I don\'t know the exact number but already 2 of my 5 friends that bought a PS2 at alunch have sent theres in to get repairs and now I am sending mine in for repairs, but wait, I frickin\' can\'t send mine in, not yet anyway...

I spent $321 on the system (the extra $21 is from tax) and got a nice and wonderful 90 day warranty.  Of course we all know that\'s not the games that I bought too.  Overall I spent about $500 on launch for 2 games and another controller and a multitap.  I am happy with what I\'ve got.  I really am!!!

Now 6 months later (180 days- past warranty) My system will only read DVD movies and DVD games and music CDs.  For some frickin reason it won\'t read my Cd based games.  So Sony is going to have me send mine in for repairs.

It is going to cost $119 frickin dollars!!!  That doesn\'t include my shipping fees either.  I am so pissed off!!!  I am being screwed over royally!  I guess this is our reward for standing in lines for 10 hrs, anticipating this machine more then anyone else, and spending $321 on the damn thing!  I feel so SPECIAL now.  ARGHHHHH!!!!

I can\'t afford to fix my sytem right now.  For instance:


2 proms: $80+35 for ticket pricing

Tux:  $90x2  I\'ve got to wear something nice.
Other expenses: $100  We\'ve got to go out and eat too.  Many other things like flowers and fuel (I\'m driving 249 miles to get there) and so on...

Trip to Six Flags for Choir at my school: $102

In other words...I AM BROKE!!!  And I WILL BE FOR ATLEAST ANOTHER 2 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!

SONY is screwing people that got their systems during the launch.  Count me out on buying the PS3 during its launch...In fact, the only thing that\'ll convince me to even buy a PS3 is if it gets the games I want.

Call this immature if you\'d like, but I\'ve got a major grudge against SONY right now.  It\'s going to be a lot easier for Nintendo to win over my support right now then it has ever been, even though I haven\'t been real particular to the Gamecube in the past.  I am just so pissed...

I have had no problems yet, but like you, I hear many did. Too bad :(

I (and everyone I know) had problems with Playstation though....

Well i was treated superbly by Sony when MY PSX brokedown, they sent a replacement the next day and the only question they asked was if i has my unit chipped or not.

Hey maybe this is a Secret plan by SONY to Catch people who chip there systems :rolleyes:......

last time i checked it was a year for UK residents (due to diffrent trading standards etc etc etc)

Thanks for the quick reply, i can always count on 007 (-edited, and you metalgear) for UK related PS2 news :D

I suspected it was a year as they were willing to swap my ps2 a little while back even though I got my ps2 at christmas. Didn\'t go through with the swap but its nice to know I can swap it if I need to.

Are you sure about that? Cause everyone I know(including myself, people from the forum, people from school, friends, relatives) got a 1 year warranty. I\'m pretty sure thats standard for all PS2s. So if it really is only 90 days then its not Sony who\'s screwing you over, its the store you bought it from.

USA:  90 DAYS WARRANTY as stated in the back of the PS2 manual

I had a hellacious time with Sony and their poor customer service.  I lost a lot of respect for Sony after hearing about all these people with deffective units.  And Sony won\'t do a damn thing about it b/c it would be admitting a mistake and they won\'t do that with the X-box and Gamecube coming out.

I doubt I\'ll ever buy anything Sony again.

That sucks dude. Hate to jinx myself, but mine has been fine from the start..

Just do the good \'ole switcharoo. Find a place that has PS2s.. buy a new one, swap it with yours, return it. That\'s what I do. :)

actually I don\'t blame you. if I had these trouble I would probably condemn Sony myself

BUT, I have bought 3 PS2\'s one for me one for my step-son and one for my Brother-In-Law and no one has had even a slight problem

Actually in my case it was 2 mistakes they made on the same unit.

Just think of how many people who post here have a PS2 and how many of them have had problems with it.

Besides it\'s not like I said "Hey Sony I got a problem" and they said "Here" and fixed it.  Oh no, I had to go through 2.5 months of bullsh1t.

That is right!  In the USA there is only a 90 day warranty.  I sure wish it was a full year.

While I\'m pretty pissed off.  I wouldn\'t go as far as to say that I wouldn\'t buy a SONY product ever again.  They make a heck of a lot of good stuff.  I\'m just saying that since I\'m so pissed at them right now my mind is somewhat not thinking real logically.  Even though I realize my own deceptive thinking I\'m going to struggle with buying a really expensive product of theirs again.  Maybe they can redeem themselves by giving me back my fixed PS2 and it never having problems again.  This is just going to take a while.

well if you guys have the time to look it up, i made a poll not to long ago on how many people have had probl;ems with thier PS2, the choices were:

flawless
good
little problems
had to send it in

and to my surprise a whole lot of people piced flawless and a few piced had problems and like 4 people picked had to send it in, i dont htink all the PS2 are defective its just bad luck, my PS2 has been flawless, and i havent had 1 problem exept for it not readign a disk 1nc

well i feel sorry for you all that bought one and had problems (i never had one single problem with mine and my PSX ever,same with my friends),but one thing i always tell everyone,buy a store warranty of the product because the manufactures warranty are always limited.

that is why you get store warranty like EB\'s..$30 USD for 1 year and $50 USD for 2 years ? dont you think its worth it ? its better to spend $30-$50 USD for 1-2 year warranty then pay $120 for repairs which doesnt include shipping, in other words its like $150 shipped.

$30-$50 vs. $150 shipped...hmmm..why can\'t customers listen to me when i tell them that its worth it ? maybe i should print this thread out and show customers that im NOT lying about sending the price to send in PS2\'s into SONY...people say "NO i dont need it, whats the odds of it not working ?" in 180 days it can.

with EB\'s warranty, you can smash the PS2 with a hammer and go into ANY EB with your receipt and warranty and we\'ll give you a new one on the spot [if we have it in stock]..you can chuck it out from a 50 story building and still get a new one..with SONY on the other hand they dont cover those things...they cover DEFECTS ONLY !!

I feel so sorry for you... But, it\'s just a machine, and I hope you\'ll get the money to get it repaired...

You have my sympathy on your side - and I completely understand your post - I would be out-raged if my PS2 wouldn\'t work suddenly.

I don\'t know about finnish warranty ( don\'t have time to check now ). 90 days, three months, is nothing of warranty! Sony was, maybe, too sure of themselves, when they decided to put a 90 days warranty on the U.S. -machines...

I have had some problems lately with my system not reading disc. And TTT is starting to freeze up on me. Thank god mine is not serious enough where it would have to be sent back.

Just be warned XBOX...

That\'s the way my system was at first too.  I didn\'t even think twice about it either until it just quit altogether or wouldn\'t read even after I just hit the reset button.  I hope what is happening to me doesn\'t happen to you guys, but just be warned XBOX, that\'s how mine started too.

Whats the problem with this, big deal your PS2 brokedown and you didn\'t extend the warranty, that could happen to any product thats why we have warrantys in the first place.

i am sorry but extending the my warranty was the first thing i did when i got my PS2.

It seams that a bit of common sence payed of in the long run for me.

have my ps2 for exactly a year now, never had any problem. I\'m getting a PAL machine soon so, I\'ll soon find out whats all the fuss is about ;)

I remember when my Saturn broke down...oh wait, I have never had a Sega break down on me.

But I have a friend who had a Genny break down on him, Sega replaced it for free. Also, I remember the launch disk fiasco, free disks were sent, not by the cost of the consumer,but Sega footed the bill.

Afer my third PSX, I would rather not deal with Sony\'s BS much anymore, if my PS2 breaks, thats it for me, Iwill just bum my friend\'s to use theirs.

all electrical goods should be under warranty for a year, (ive done engineering at college) and most things have warranty for a year as in the first year of use of anything thats when it most likely to break down, if something hasnt broke after a year then it should probably never do it, untill so many years later, cant remember how many, are you sure that this wasnt just the stores policie, that you could only take it back if it broke in that amount of time, you should really ring up sony and have words as this cant be right.

Actually, Sega has treated me way better then Sony has.  For a little backround, when I first got my Dreamcast the system didn\'t work.  Called them up and within a week after I sent mine in I got a brand new system from them, they even threw in 3 hats from Sega for free, which wasn\'t that big of a deal, but it showed a little bit of how they tried to show they cared for the consumer.  The person I talked on the phone with was extremely poligetic (Is that how you spell it :-P), and was very nice.

I don\'t want to stereotype all of the guys over at Sony, but the guy I talked to was so like so routine in what he told me.  He was just like, "Yup, that\'s your problem and it\'s going to cost $119 to fix it.  So here\'s the address and what you need to do.  Okay, bye..."  ----paraphrasing with a little exaggeration of course.

And I\'m not trying to say that I was the unlucky one that got the system that had problems.  I was saying that TONS of people have been having problems with one of the biggest being with the laser oscillator(it reads the discs info).  The DC not working was just bad luck, but my PS2 breaking down is a major problem with a lot of people....

Yeah, when i bought mine at launched the dvd rom lens wasn\'t working properly, but i am happy that they sent me a brand new one 2 weeks right after i\'ve sent it to them. Sony may have done some crappy job on the machines at launch but hey, it doesn\'t take long for them to fix the prob.

Well maybe for you but not for me.  I do believe 2 trips and 2 and a half months is a bit excessive for a repair.

Sony phone support doesn\'t know their asshole from their elbow.  Every one of them I talked to told me something different.

And if you recall, unknown did post a poll with approx 24 responses of which 4 of them said "send it in" and a few others reported problems.  4/24 is roughly 17% and that\'s just this board.  If 17% of all units are defective that says a lot in an uncomplimentary way toward Sony.

Regardless, a $300 machine should have a warranty beyond 90 days.

Funny...except my system has never touched a carpet...

I got my PS2 to load the MGS2 demo today!!!  What a joy...I only had to restart the damn system like 40 times to get it working!  But, unfortunately, after a great amount of time was spent on the game I decided I wanted to play a different game, naturally...And it wouldn\'t load it up.  Can\'t get it working again.  What I really am mainly confused about is why my system still reads music CDs perfectly.  It reads the DVDs fine, game and movie, but when it comes playing CD based games, PS1 or PS2, it just won\'t even detect them.  As in, the disc won\'t even spin...Anyone got an answer to that, the customer service on the phone for Sony didn\'t know why.  He just told me it was "Clearly a hardware problem."  Duh!

Oh, I\'ve also tried my system in both the vertical and horizontal positions and there\'s no difference.  I didn\'t think there would be anyway.

Didn\'t anyone read my post? The hell with \'wasting\' money. Buy and swap, the lifetime warranty. It has never failed for me.

I got it, and I backed you up

Buy a new system bring it home put the garbage one in the box take it back and tell them it don\'t work and you decided to wait for a GC or and XBox instead

get your money back

Walmarts are very good for this

Glad someone did. :) Also glad to know someone else saves their money as well. To hell with Sony (or any other company) that thinks I\'m going to pay for repair charges when their equipment becomes faulty sooner than expected.

Hey, on my PS2, since it won\'t be repaired for a little while I have been just messing around and experimenting with it.  I found that I can get it to read the game CDs that it won\'t after only like 5-6 resets if I have the controllers unplugged from the system.  I find that if they\'re plugged in for some reason it takes like 30-40 times to get it to work.  This has worked about 75% of the time I\'ve done this now.  Except it\'s gradually getting worse...I mean with the controllers unplugged it first was like 3-4 times, then 4-5, then 5-6, not it should be 6-7 I\'d assume...

Don\'t ask me why it works, it just does...And in case your wondering, my controllers are \'official\' Sony brand so it\'s not like the gameshark is screwin with my system or something...

I would not count on that swap trick Datamage.  I used it a good 3-4 times on my PS1 but now the serial #s are tracked.  If you still have your PS2 box take a look at the bottom of it and you\'ll see a rectangular hole cut so that someone can see the serial # on a unit without opening the box.

These serial #s are supposed to be tracked on all returns to all stores as according to Sony.  Some places are bound to be more lax than others and you would think that one place like this is Wal-Mart but it isn\'t.  Wal-Mart checks serial #s.

My PS2 is so pampered its silly. All these storys of breaking down is sad. That is why I let no one play on mine. Except my brother thats cause he knows what he is doing.
