Title: problems watching rented dvd\'s
Post by: csally on April 12, 2001, 02:19:10 PM
I can watch a couple owned "older"  dvd\'s without problems.  When i put in a rented video, i tried 4-6 different titles, either the picture jumps or color is way off.  I disconnected all other cable boxes, etc, and the problem was still there.  The TV that it is hooked up to is a Zenith rear projection TV (1995) and it is plugged in using the standard red white and yellow cables.  All other games, CD\'s are working great.  Has anayone else had this problem?

I haven\'t had problems so far (1/2 a year so far).
It\'s wierd that games and older DVDs still work.  Have you actually gone all the way into a new DVD, like, into the movie (not just the menu)?

-Make sure the region is set right, as is the parental control level.

-Try running the console in diagnostic mode once... see if it finds any problems.

As long as there\'s no skipping or audio inconsistencies then it shouldn\'t be the disc, especially if you tried 4 different ones.  Sometimes a label on the DVD can throw off the drive (which is a pos).

If you\'ve had your system under 90 days and this problem continues call Sony while you\'re still under warranty.

I\'m not exactly sure the problem either.  Maybe it\'s just previous people that rented the DVD and scratched the disc or something.

My only problem I\'ve had with the DVD function is it won\'t read "Remember the Titans" at all.  I talked to blockbuster and they\'ve had this same complaint from a bunch of people but for other brands of DVD players as well.  They said it had something to do with the disc having a red back...still a little confused about it though.

It is usually a scratched disc if you have problems with a rented dvd, but the problems you are haveing sounds like what Macrovision does.  You don\'t have it hooked up through a vcr, right?

I watched remember the titans on my PS2 yesterday, no problem, so I don\'t think it\'s the red color....

I am going to have to go with inteq.  Not all movies are MAcrovision so you may not even have realized you can\'t hook it up through a VCR until you put in a movie that is.

I\'ve had problems with rented DVDs too. Some people really don\'t know the difference between a skating rink and a DVD disc. I hate people who don\'t take good care of CDs/DVDs/anything, ack. *finds a dust particle on his MegaDrive* AAARGH! You die, you go to hell and you die you stupid piece of dust! Erm...
