Title: Ring of Red NO! Ring of Mess is more like it.
Post by: jiggs on April 12, 2001, 04:24:14 PM
This is the first PS2 game I can truly say is a waste of time. What were they thinking??? Turn based strategy, chess with lame battlescenes where all you can do is move foward or back? Sorry but after about an hour and four missions I was done. Returned! Yea maybe I did not give it a chance, but for what....horrible. They could have put this on a 16bit machine. This game is truly a coaster and abuse of the abilities of the PS2. Using pictures for dialog! Bah...pathetic. Stay away from this one and to think I was looking forward to this game. Kessen towers over this mess.

Did you ever play any kind of strategy game before? From your post I would guess no? Please correct me if I am wrong.

RoR actually takes a step up from most strategy games.

Dude this is rediculous, I love th egame as do quite a few people

I\'ll be the first to admit the game is not for everyone but by playing this game for 1 hour your opinion is null. The game takes about 4- 5 hours to get rolling along and learning how to use the battle system and strategy

The game is 45 - 60 hours long and I\'m enjoying it a ton. I also enjoyed Front Mission 3 as well

Also the game is not big budget for one very obvious reason, the game will never be a million plus seller so voice acting get cut out. Konami is not going to pour MGS2 or ZOE budget into a game where anticipated sales are 300,000

Sorry Jiggs, you didn\'t give it a chance, but I can obviously say from reading your post the game is just not you bag. The game for what it does is pretty high quality. Graphics could be better, but are still pretty cool in lots of places

and for anyone teetering on getting this game or not I strongly suggest renting it give it the full 5 days and decide if you want to buy it and finish the game.

Hold on Data I am a PCer here RTS are my thing. Like Shogun total war, Ground Control ect. This game might have been good a couple of years ago but now who can bear with this boringness now. I am sure some who are still into turned based strategy games might like it but I think Dragon force on the Saturn simply kills this game.(except in the graphics department). Same plain looking battlefields vs type fighting dont need this.

Well the battlefields are relatively the same they do change aroung considerably.

I wasn\'t being a smart-ass or anything.. I was being sincere. I myself am a PCer and love RTS games. The kind of strategy games I meant if you\'ve played are the console ones. I.E., Final Fantasy Tactics, Vandal Hearts, Kartia, etc. RoR plays along the lines of those games, completely different from the RTS genre on PC. Dragon Force, ah that was a game.

something to add.  Anyone play Soul Calibur for dreamcast?  The graphics on that game are awesome I loved playing it.  Only a few problems though the end of arcade play had picture dialog, unlike a much older game like tekken 2 which had animation endings, these differences mean the world to me.  Another thing, tekken 2 had twice as many addon characters to mess around with as reward.  If you are going to make a game complex with nice graphics where do you get off leaving out simple things like these.

what\'s a matter can\'t read

the dialog is simple and to the point. and can be skipped if choosen wothout much efect to the game.

Your not going to get top budget voice acting in a game thats anticipated to sell moderately at best, thats just common business sense

not all games have to have huge budgets to be fun

/me thinks..

/me ponders..

What 50-60hr Strategy/RPG game has complete voice-overs? Final Fantasy sucked cause the characters didn\'t talk? FFT (one of the best, if not the best strategy/rpg didn\'t have speech) ..

Strategy games suck, including RoR. ddaryl, you really like it? But think its a waste of time to own all 4 consoles? Strategy games are the biggest waste of time, and only the biggest losers like them. Nigga you trippin.

I can understand the budget concerns but being spoiled on high action adventures and explosive RTS I guess this game is just not for me. Did not mean to be too hard on it but it just made me mad I had painted a whole different picture when I bought the game. But a true fan of this type of gameplay will enjoy themselves.

I will pay more money for a better game.  Wouldn\'t you? No sound? No Voice overs?  How about another cd in the case.
You guys really like it up the butt don\'t you?  Why did you veer from Genghis Kahn on Nintendo.  If you say that you\'d gladly play those old nintendo games and pay top dollar along side the playstation2 games, you go right ahead.  Why settle for less then for more?  Got to wonder about some of you.

I wonder about you, being so anal to write off gameplay do to having read text on the screen

The game is fun, and I wouldn\'t pay a buck more for voices, in fact Voices in this game would actually be annoying

In fact nobody would pay $10 more for RoR just to have character animations and voice overs, I find your comments to be extremly sad, gameplay is what really matters and RoR is fun just the way it is

Since when did people get so damn anal about voices?

Oh well.

Ok, doesn\'t seem like I\'m getting through to u Ddarryl.  I never said this games sucks. And no simple thing like having to read dialog would sway me from liking a game. I was making a reference just to one little thing. Your trying to make this into a bigger arguement then ever did exist.  Your doing alot of assumption.  I didnt really have alot to work with in the first place.  I\'ve never even played the friggin game!

not a problem but your comments directly say games are no good if you have to read text, and you\'d be willing to pay more money for a game just to not have to read dilaog

the game is designed with a budget for a 300,000 seller, not a 5 million seller like MGS2

No, I\'m saying, I can only play games that are superior.  I strive to look for the best.  I will not play a Half-ass game.

Personally, I\'m thrilled that Konami had the guts to bring this game over. And during the PS2 game flood in March no less. Fact is, RoR did not sell well in Japan and I wasn\'t hopeful for a US release. I mean Square never brought Front Mission 2 and Front Mission Alternative over for the US PSX. And those sold very well in Japan. RoR in comparison was a flop. Konami took a risk with us and I applaud them for it. Bad translation, meager animation, minimal audio, typos galore, and all. Doesn\'t matter to me, I\'m having fun playing the game.

Hey it\'s cool man. We all get heated in our debates.

You just seem to be full of negativity lately man. And believe me, I am one negative mofo, I just don\'t show it as much as I used to. Even when I feel I should. It\'s not worth it, no one gives a sh!t.

Ring of Red\'s ok but I didn\'t care much for it.  It made me miss Vandal Hearts :(

I wish they would make a Final Fantasy Tactics 2 or Vandal Hearts 3 for PS2.

I think this game is amazing.
I dont care about the voice-overs.
It doesnt affect the gameplay that much.
The game on the other hand is a big step
FORWARD for strategy games.
Instead of just having normal turn based combat, if someone attacks you on thier turn, you can FIGHT BACK!
Wow, aint that something.
No more random counter attacks.
You actually can choose what body parts to attack, instead of it just happening randomly.
You know what?
Your right.
This game is a piece of ****.
It does all this new complicated stuff.
And I have to learn and stuff.
UGHH!
AND READ!
NO!!

sorry.
I was being very cynical.
I apologize.
