I really need to get a great warranty on any of these suckers. I hear stuff about PS2 stop reading after a few months and having to send it back. I hear the XBOX having overheating problems. These are not good signs. I remember my playstation stop reading things so well after I had it for a few months and took it back to Toys \' R\' Us for the Nintendo 64(eventually I got another playstation and took the 64 back lol, but this time a ps with a mod chip). Then u have the problems with these consoles flopping. This whole business is a ridculous waste of money. No one ever thinks of the quality. No one ever thinks about you only having a variety of like 5 games on a Nintendo 64 for months after it came out. Yeah, 3d Mario got old real quick, no matter how cool that game is.

1st of all only a small minority are having any real problems. Most of us have hasd PS2\'s since OCt 26 and with no problems at all. In fact I bought 3 one for me one for my step-son, and one for my brother-in law. All of them are still working just fine
Xbox hasn\'t been released yet so more than likely problems will be fixed before release
AND, if you ever do have a problem just go buy another unit stick the busted one in the new box and take it back to the store and tell them it don\'t work and you decided to wait till Christmas

I must defend console gaming here. Its the old bread and butter. Things change always in with the new and out with the old. Consoles do a fine job and the cost is relativly low compared to a monster PC which everyone cannot afford. Its all about having fun. Maybe you lost what its all for. Ok enough rambling I am off to play Tribes 2. I have a need to frag someone right now. Bye Bye. Keep playing.

Rule of the thumb: Anytime you buy something electronic there is a chance of defects. It is impossible for a company to gurantee that no defects will happen. You are just as likely to get a defected microwave as you are a PS2. It is just a chance you take when you buy something. Bright side is the warranty if something goes wrong.

I\'ve had no problems with mine...
Just remember, it\'s the same rule as politics, life, lobby groups, whatever:
One dissatisfied customer makes more noise than one hundred satisfied ones.

I haven\'t had any problems with my PS2, but I\'m glad there is a 1 year warranty by law where I live. There does seem to have been quite a lot of minor problems. But hopefully it shouldn\'t be a problem for the majority of owners.

Zentraedi-
You have to remember, why would anyone with a working PS2 start a thread saying, "PS2 works great!"
That would get a little old.
"yeah, me too"
"Still kickin it"
"I love it"
"Never worked better."
People with problems tend to voice more than people without.

Zentraedi, I understand where you\'re coming from and you do have a valid concern. There has already been too large a quantity of defective PS2 units reported.
But in reality, the percentage is probably less than 10%. So I wouldn\'t worry about it not working out of the box. I would, however, buy an extended warranty of at least one year, which should be enough time to find any defects.

Maybe it was just the Playstation giving me an ooogey feeling about getting a PS2. I had 2 playstations, my second started doing the same thing as the first. Playstations seem to stop reading or have problems reading after awhile. Is this a strange pattern or is sony purposely making there playstations fizzle out. American car companies did this. Why not a cd playing device in general. I have also had alot of portable cd players. 4 to be exact. 3 portable cd players lasting no more then 2 year each. My phillips-magnovox lasting the longest of 3 years. I decided to get another phillips.
I forgot to mention I had a pullable car cd player that went tits up. Thses are not off brands either.

To be honest, this and my stereo are the only Sony products I consider worth buying. I have a Sony phone but it\'s not very good.
It took them a while, but they did honor my warranty. So I\'d say just get an extra warranty. There\'s basically no rules in the video console business when it comes to ethics and what\'s standard customer service and product quality. Hell there\'s only 3 real competitors.
