I instead am now looking and putting all of my attention in a REAL gaming platform with REAL games....the PC
I have been spending the last week or so making half-life maps(1% done with current project)....this is something no console can offer...i can make my OWN game...amazing:D
Also...DR yassam..i will admit i was wrong about doom3...i should have DL the thing to my HDD instead of just streaming it over 56k...it looks mind-blowing on the mac g4 with 128MB ram running on Mac-osx...
I am currently getting a new rig ...gaming/workstation needs will be filled with this.
I will make my maps available to the public this fall...the wait will be worth it:D

a half life map? what, did u start it 3 years ago? try Q3 or UT if u want any use out of it

and there are several console games that allow this

I\'m now devoting myself to a real platform.......the CBS Coleco Vision.It has everything the other consoles,and PC\'s don\'t have.Great games like Ping-Pong and Pong-Ping.

I used to make awesome Doom II levels. Then I moved on to Quake II levels. Now, I don\'t have time to do that kind of stuff any more. It\'s too bad though, because I was really good at it. Enjoy it while it lasts, Nplayer-2, because you will soon be too old to do that kind of stuff (unless you make a career out of it :)).

I see a future problem with mood swings and multiple personalities. The cost of updating PC\'s won\'t be where you money will be going.
but none the less whatever floats your boat, just don\'t waste our time trying to convince us the PS2 sucks and we should all invest heavily into the PC

Oh my god. So, Nplayer has switched sides again? Wow. Didn\'t he spend alot of the time making threads complaining that the Xbox will be nothing but PC games? Now he is a PC-fanboy. Amazing.
As MM stated, making maps is not making games. Hell, even TimeSPliters allows you to make maps and with the HD coming out and the Xbox\'s built in HD making maps will become even more common in the console area. But still, making maps is nothing like making your own game. Granted, if you are really good you could land a job as a level designer.
But, yeah, I\'m sure it will be worth the wait (your maps, that is). :D
Bright side? We no longer have to put up with you trashing the Xbox and making PS2 fans look like idiots. We can resume normal forum discussions. HEy, see\'ing as you "saw the light"--that consoles aren\'t where the true games are... Does that mean you\'ll be leaving the forum ?!!?!

I have a good PC cause yes, PCs have many more important functions than consoles. Printing, burning CDs, internet. To be fair, though, to keep your playing the best games you DO have to spend a lot more than with consoles.
I bought my whole system piece by piece 2.5 years ago. At the time, it ran the most advanced games flawlessly, and was amazing. Now? If I want to play the very latest 3D games, in 1280x1024, at 60 fps, like I used to, I\'m going to have to upgrade. It\'s that simple. I will need a faster CPU, Motherboard, and Graphics Card. I\'m looking at like 800-1000 bucks (CDN). That\'s a lot of money to spend every couple years.
I\'ll probably upgrade my computer again soon. I do use it all the time, and I try and play games, but I think within a year I\'ll be putting a pretty much entirely new system together.
The sweet thing about consoles is that the games keep improving, just like PC games, but the developers are carefull to keep the games within the limits of a (cheaper) confined system. Look at the improvement between FF7 and FF9.
N64 (what, 4-5 years ago?) was 180 bucks. PS2 this year 450 (all prices CDN, divide by 1.5 for US), and it\'s the first system I\'ve bought in a while. Will probably be the last for another 3-4 years.
In terms of overall use, you can\'t beat computers. For gaming, it\'s best to choose one of the latest sytems and stick with it.

I have tried this before but I will try once more. Nplayer, stop doing this. Each system has its own strengths and its own "REAL" games. If you have enough money for a good gaming PC then you should also have enough for each console and each or their respective classics. Instead you choose to burn yourself and those around you out with this endless search for the "real" system for "real" gamers and hating anything that is not your current prefrence. Considering the number of times that you have switched I would think you are ripe for a moment where you can just step back and see the benefits each gaming medium offers you.

Where is the loser? This is an excellent time to be a gamer and yet you manage to come out with hate. It is fun debate but you have taken it to the same level of anger one would expect from religious zealots.
Please just try and relax and enjoy all that the industry offers us.

N-player i agree with you that pc games,( for me at least), offer more than consoles could ever.

MM:they could have still done that and gave us more...i think quake1 had a better ending...oh yeah and the last boss is a joke...even tho i killed my self when i hit those spikes on the roof..lol
For those even intrested...my maps will be heavily focused on military bases filled with commandos...but there will be alien scum in there of coarse....don\'t expect 30 maps..but nothing less than 10.

:) Well that\'s cool but here is my take on the current PC situation. It is certainly where the greatest innovation is coming from right now. However, as PC games grow in size and complexity the bugs have become outrageous. You are going to run into crashes left and right (I use a PIII, GF2, SBLive so my hardware is very standard and developers test on this type of setup extensively), corrupt files, mind-blowing scripting errors etc. While I certainly think people who can afford to buy a good computer but refuse to because they think the games are not worth it are missing out on a great deal, it is by no means a perfect platform. Basically, prepare to be frustrated and when you do become so, do not just drop it and become aggressively anti-PC. Just enjoy the games and accept weaknesses caused by the market\'s growing pains.

are you talking about Tribes2;)? the only reson this game came out this soon was because sierra needs the money...Taking Forever 2 is not coming any time soon.
I hold the publisher at fault for this disaster.
I can live with this minor flaw in PC gaming.....i just need better hardware ;)

This soon? Tribes 2 was delayed numerous times. And while it has faults, it runs fine on my system. I think you should just choose a side and stick to it (since that\'s your thing) .. You will soon find out a PC is not all its cracked up to be. (i\'ve been using em since the 8088s) ... I think I\'ll add something to the topic.

I usually agree with you data however in this node I have some concerns about how you put that. Nothing is all that including PC. But to be honest with you after being a straight console lover for many years if I had to give up any one platform PC would be the last. Why? I have simply had too much fun playing and moding games on my PC. It is number one in my house by far. I still love my consoles but none of them can match the variety and staying power of my PC games. I have built many now and of those none give the people I have put them togeather for problems. PC gaming is not easy you need knowledge to maintain and keep your machine in good working order. Unlike consoles which are easy to use, just pop in the disk. The PC needs a lot more attention. PCs are not for gaming they have to be modified from thier original intent. But it was gaming that gave speed to the PC. Why would you need a 1.2ghz cpu to do word perfect? PCs are like your child there are no others like it even if the specs are the same its the user that determines how it will run. Windows is not the problem its the user. Games wont run its not Windows fault there are too many variables involved. Takes some effort but the rewards are great. Cost? I have seen many hype up the cost of a PC that can play games but check this out.

Ah man don\'t be concerned @ all. I love my PC. I would never get rid of it, and I will always continue the battle of upgrades. There\'s a downside to everything is all I meant. Even with a top-of-the-line PC not every game will run satisfactory. Well, that really goes for me, cause I\'m extra picky with framerates and I don\'t like to sacrifice any detail or resolution. ;)
Online-gaming is best on a PC, and I don\'t see any console ever changing that. There\'s stuff on my PC that I will never play on a console and vice-versa.

I have my dream machine now and I still want the fastest rod on the block. Waiting for Max Payne, SOF 2, Planetside and many others. I will wait for Geforce 3 to drop in price and for them to translate that into the new games.

PC is a good gaming-device, if you happen to be a millionaire. The problem is, that the average families, like ours, have to save \'bout 5-6 years before even thinking of buying a new PC - and our Computer is about 4 years old. The first game I bought to this PC was unreal - count the years. We just can\'t afford to buy a new PC - not now, and heck, maybe never. That is why I bought PS2 - it provides far better graphics my PC can handle, and really good games, and I use my PC for internet and such.
I used to create H-L levels with worldcraft - but nowadays I don\'t have time nor nerves to start again.

I am smart enough to patch.optimize.set-up my PC for the best performance..i can read..that should be enough for any none-blind person...i pity those DC on-line quakers..sure 4 players is nice..but after you experience a 30 player on-line game..;)
I will be getting a job very soon and with the money i earn i will pay for my new PC..money is no problem..i do not live in a car like some people pretending they do in this thread.

Max Payne is on top of my waiting list - and I sure hope my PC will be enough to run the game. Finnish developer - so what could you wait but a quality title? :)
I heard Duke Nukem Forever will come to PS2 as well - I don\'t remember wich developer bought the license to PS2, and rights to convert DNF for PS2, but I think it\'s going to happen. DNF, I\'m pretty sure, won\'t work in my computer.
The life is about opinions, I understand that. But it is just quite funny to see you praise PS2 from earth to heavens and then suddenly say you support PC after all...

Glaring contradiction of all this? Nplayer dedicated so much time to trashing the Xbox because it was a "computer" and would have "computer games", yet now he loves his computer and computer games. So, apparently, Nplayer also loves the Xbox..;)

Of course not, because now he considers Xbox to be the PC\'s biggest competitor. Makes little sense, seeing as how the PC doesn\'t compete with the console; it merely shares a lot of attributes, like the same developers, hardware, and so on. But they don\'t compete with eachother, for the most part.
NPLAYER\'s logic is ludacris and changes on about a monthly basis. I\'m serious when I say I think he\'ll support Xbox out of the blue sooner or later; he\'s just that hypocritical and sporadic.
