i bought Quake 3 yesterday :) and rented 4x4 evo, 4x4 evo doesn\'t even deserve a first impression so this is all i have to say about it:
Dont buy it!, this game is horrible and is probably only for the most hardcore 4x4 enthusiast, i only payed it for 20 minutes, and i hated it i give it a 3 out of 10
Now to Quake 3:
Graphics: 9-10
now i have only played the original Quake, and never played arena on th PC, but i must say this game has some kick ass graphics, the levels are specificaly made for the PS2 and look complex and very detailed, to put it another way..beautiful, i havent seen one jaggie since i started playing this game. The character models are very detailed and are just as beautiful as the level they run about in, they are barely blocky but you can\'t notice and it wont bother you when your blowing thier corpses up mwaha :p.
Gameplay: 8-10
the single player so far is really good, you get to pick 1 of 4 people to start out with, Doom, an alien, sarge, a cyber guy, and some chick, each with different attributes, then as you progress thrue the game you character becomes stronger and gains attributes, you win awards by how good you play during the level, it keeps it interesting by throwing different levels objectives at you, deathmatch, capture the flag, possetion, elimination, etc. after about 5 or 6 levels, it chalks up what attribues you worked on and you character appeareance changes from a slave to a free man, Doom for instance look like the guy from the game doom as a slave, but when he becomes a free man, the glass on his helmet turns form grey to a blood red, and his armor gets darker, blood soaked on it, they look pretty awesome, in absense of the on-line play, they give us multi player, this feature suites me just fine, you can pick from 30 people, yep 30 but you have to get them as you go along, i have yet to see horny i mind you :( "were the hell is he?", and there are about 6-8 or more "i cant remember off hand" different modes of play. so this game keeps you very entertained. the game also playes at a rock hard 60fps even with 4 people.
Controls 7-10
now this is what got me, why they didnt include keyboard & mouse compatability?we will never know but the controls are fine after you play for about the first 1/2 an hour, they are really awkward at first, is has time splitters controls, you shoot with x, you jump ith triangle switch guns with sqaure, cnt rememebr what circle does, straff left and right with L1 & R1, crouch with L2, and snipe with R2, they arent all that bad but man they should have made K & M compatability.
cons:
not many at all, this game is perect exept for 1 little tiny detail... the load times, if you are a patient men, then you will not have problems, but if you r a hurry up you sh*t type person, there is gonna be some static. and the not so great controls, they could have added K & M compatability but they didnt so that just makes the controls worse
final word 8-10
this game is so awesome, it eats UT and TS up for dinner, poopes them out ad ask for more, some people say "if it doesnt have on-line play then it blows" but with the multi player and all the modes to choose from, you wont even notice the difference, this game is a must buy for the FPS fanatic, especially if you like games like UT & TS
there ya go.

i got it from work, and after about 4 levels, i wanted to kill myelf.
levels would take up to two minutes to load, before AND after.
there is NO excuse.
sure it looked pretty good, but the controls were poop.
I WANT MOUSE/KEYBOARD SUPPORT!
-
LOL Could we possibly get two more contrasting views of a game?! hehe :)
-
I think TimeSplitters is better then Quake 3 and UT combined. The fact that TimeSplitters has TONS more weapons to choose from and TONS more player models makes it better. I like the single player in TimeSplitters believe it or not. I like a lot of the challenges and I dont mind a HARD game once and awhile. I\'ve been playing it for 10 hours now and I still havent unlocked everything! Anyway, thats my two cents :)

ha!
there is NO excuse for the long loading times, thats why i said if you have patience then it wont bother you, but if you an in a hurry to play guy then you will have static. and 2 minutes is a bit ove the edge there, it takes about 1 or less for my PS2
and i do agree with you on the K & M compatability, the game would have been even more enjoyable if the added it.
but this is my opinion, i like the game a whole lot, i traded UT & TS in quite a while ago to get store credit for onimusha cause i didnt like them, i like this game way more.

Don\'t be so harash just because of the long ass load times. I know they are very annoying. The game looks better then the DC version of course. I bought the game and i love it. Why because i am a FPS type person, and i don\'t have but one gripe about Quake 3.
The load times.
-
hey Wipeout1 had very long loading times. But I never complained.Except if after the 1-2 mins of loading the gameplay lasts 2-5 mins before the next loading(Bouncer).

That\'s good new that Q3 is a good game. I\'ll look more in to this game. :D
-
bump it on up to the east side.

I think Ill get this when I get my hands on some currency. I like non-online FPS\'ers.
Thats why Red Faction is so appealing.
It is relying on its 1 player mode to sell.

I\'m definetely going to get Quake III for PS2 - and there\'s numerous reasons:
1) I\'m getting tired of Timesplitters. It\'s too damn hard, and I need some change. I\'ll put it up on the shelf for a while and play Quake III.
2) Quake III sounds much more violent/aggressive than Timesplitters - and that\'s a good thing. My friends love TS, and if they fall in love with QIII as well - we\'re going to have a great time.
3) I loved Quake, I liked Quake II, and I would\'ve bought QIII if I\'d own a voodoo-card. This is the first change I get to play QIII - and how could I ignore a game with the good ol\' Doom-marine in it? :)

I bought Quake 3 a week ago and it\'s awesome. Wicked graphics, framerate, level design, and a very cool single player game.

Is the solo mode THAT good ?
This game is very appealling to me, but I\'m not sure to buy it, because, and here is the sad truth :
I don\'t have friends !
hmmm no, that\'s not it :
I don\'t friends that like FPS...or very few....
So the game may seem very cool, but if I don\'t have fun playing it alone, it won\'t be ok for me...
That\'s why I need a good solo mode
(and as someone said it before in this post, I really liked the solo mode in TS)
