its been a while since i bought my first game for the PS2,
called SSX, which i still play. Does any body out there feel like PS2 has disapointed them in any way?
The only place that the PS2 disapoints, and not in the
hardware department, but the software department,
is that many of the nicer games are short, and not very enjoyable when you get through the first time around.

I am highly impressed with my ps2 it rocks... i have 3 games since launch my only disapointment would be Fifa 2001 yech... i\'m to good at it so no one plays me :( plus its just boring when your on your own.

You saying that PS2 is dead is about equal to someone saying that Janet Reno is hot. PS2 is not dead and with a predicted 20 million userbase by januaray Xbox will have a long time to catch up to Sony. So wheres your intelligent PS2 is dead comeback huh? My only disappointment is the lack of multiplayer games. I\'m still playing Timesplitters, TTT, and DOA2:HC more than anything else. But this June TM:B and GT3 are coming out. I can\'t wait! :)

Somehow this always happens. Somebody will post a good thread and then some guy will come in and start talking about xbox and go completely offtopic.
The Thread orignially asked if you were dissapointed in any way by the ps2 6 months after its release. It didnt ask whats better then the PS2.
You want to talk about xbox? fine be our guest just go do it in the appropriate place. LIke in the console debating section or an xbox forum or in Bill Gate\'s bedroom, dont start flame wars on a good topic like this one. Grow up already. Anyways I havent really been disappointed in any way. There has been a shortage of really great games that are out as of now but that doesnt make me disappointed at the ps2, a little impatient at the developers for not finish games quicker but then again qaulity games take time so I guess I\'ll have to be more patient. :D

On topic...
While I was a little dissapointed @ launch, I\'ve always enjoyed my PS2 with classics like SSX, TTT (well, sorta), Onimusha, Shadows of Destiny, Kengo and other good titles, like Oni, Star Wars, TimeSplitters, Summoner, etc. Even those few dark months when no new games were coming out, I occupied myself fine w/ PSone classics like Deception and Jumping Flash.

I\'m having a great time with my PS2. SSX is just damn too fun to stop playing. Only dissappointment, well, the lack of 2 more controller ports is one (in case anyone is wondering, I do have a multitap 2, so problem solved, sorta) and Bouncer. Some games, could\'ve been great, but weren\'t.
BTW, is Unreal Tournament any good?

Im dissapointed because PS2hahaha\'s parents didnt have an abortion.
When it comes to my PS2 though, my only dissapointment is there are TOO many games and I cant afford them all.

I don\'t love the X-BOX.
I don\'t hate sony.
But unlike most of you all, I am not having delusions
about this being such a great system.
Face it, MOST of the games suck. there are tons more Playstation 1 games that are far better.
I know its still "early" But you said its been 6 months, and you asked if we were disapointed so far.
I think most people are trying soooo hard to talk themselves into thinking this is a great thing so far, and its not. I feel just as dumb as everyone else who waited in line to by one, I guess i\'m just one of the few who admit it.

Im under no delusions, and Im not trying to start an arguement, but I think this has been a GREAT first 6 months.
I mean, in the first 6 months, we got:
Timesplitters
Madden
SSX
Starfighter
Summoner
DW2
Onimusha
ZOE(Good game but short)
RoR
Shadows of Destiny
MDK2
Quake 3
NHL 2001
...and those are just some of the games I can think of off the top of my head.
I think you may just be expecting too much.
When I bought my PS2, I knew it wasnt going to be the best thing ever.
I knew it was going to be a good console, and so far it has lived up to those expectation with good games out so far, and a steller lineup for the future.
I mean, name another console that had this good of a first 6 months.

WE ARE NOT HAVING DELUSIONS...except the extreme PS2 fanboys who think games like Gameday 2001 is good :rolleyes:. Most of us don\'t see that. I actually believe the PS2 is great as of right now, and is only going to get better. And I don\'t even have all the games I want either! Now, if this was launch, I would be saying an entirely different tune. But this is 6 months after. Different story.

Umm, did you have a PSX since launch? (I did) .. Within the first 6 months there were very few great games.
As far as the topic goes I\'m not disappointed. My expectations of the PS2 were so low that I was actually a lil overwhelmed @ launch.

Disapointments? Hmm after hearing all the hype on tv and radio and video game stores. I will admit I expected more. Madden and onimusha keep me playing. I just got so board with TTT which I thought could have been better. And Doa2 hc Looks just like the dc version and there is nothing new that would keep me playing it. Nba live was a big let down. SSX was just so over hyped too me. I would not give it up for nothing. I know it is still early period in the system and you cannot expect it too have the favorite of great games and multi-player games that psx has. For now I will just wait and play Onimusha and madden.

The only thing that disapoints me (not really) is that you can hear the fan while playing some DVD Movie... :D

Ps2 has actually proved to be far better than I expected ( as I didn\'t hype the console too much back then ) :)
I enjoy the great selection of games I have - and like every one of them; only with the exception of TTT, as I\'ve played it TOO much and now the game is really boring and repetitive.
I will buy Quake III Revolution as soon as I get money.

Just ignore those fools who ruin the thread, and they\'ll leave the thread alone. Start discussing with them, shouting at them, flaming them - they get what they want, enjoy their \'fame\', and start flaming even more. The best way to get rid of a troll is report to a moderator, in deep silence, and ignore their posts. I just hope everyone could do this! :)

No way i am not dissapointed,i knew the PS2 would be great,and it has been for me,i love the games that are out at the moment,and these are only first gen games,i carnt wait to get my new TV and GT3.Then my PS2 wont get a rest!!!!!!!!!

I don\'t see the need to bash Gman2. He just stated his opinion as to why PS2 disappointed him. And to be honest, I can understand some of what he\'s saying. Don\'t just automatically jump on anything slighty anti-PS2. Of course there are trolls, but there are also people who just have a different opinion than yourself.

Well, I own 20 PS2 games now\'a\'days and I have mixed feelings. I really enjoyed games like Onimusha, but for the most part my PS2 collects dust. I in no way regret buying it though. Sure, it doesn\'t quite live up to my expecatations, but I doubt any new sysem is goin\' to. The DC did, but that is only because it represented the first true jump to 128 era. Anyways, I imagine once Resident Evil: Code Veronica Complete comes out with the Devil May Cry demo, my PS2 will be played a ton.

I am disappointed in my PS2 and I am starting to agree with ps2hahaha. The only game I enjoy playing is DOA2 and I didn\'t plan on spending $400+ dollars for one game.
I hope Twisted Metal Black will renew my interest in my PS2. Otherwise I\'m seriously looking at an X-box.

I agree totally with the opinions of GMAN2, LIVING-IN-CLIP and EMPEROR ROB...
I first bought the PS2 expecting it to live upto the hype in a way I did buy into the hype by purchasing the console as soon as I could. I should have waited but so far my PS2 does seem to work.
I seen the first set of games, SSX with its slowdown, Midnight Club with its below average graphics and Tekken which is just like Tekken 3 and my PS2 starts to collect some dust.
I was also worried that it was a weak console with the blurred textures and the amount of games suffering from slowdown. I began to feel regret in purchasing this console but then...
... I started to get some PSW DVDs to check out the games and they wern\'t great but they were ok...
... and now i\'ve got a few PSW DVDs showing off some cool games running at a nice frame rate with decent graphics. I also played first hand the GT3 and ZOE demo which both look class and both run completly smooth. It was at that point in which my faith was restored back into the PS2.
As for good games they are coming but in the UK it takes time... I hope to keep playing Gun Griffon Blaze and then get Sky Oddessey followed by Red Faction and Onimusha later.
So in short, the PS2 DID fail to delever but I do feel that its beginning to make up for the poor launch and things are definatly looking up.

I will play the waiting game like everyone else, but the question was what are your feelings after the first 6 months.
Well, no matter how hard I try, I just can¡¦t get by on Madden alone.
Onimusha was definitely a step in the right direction but even that game had a big problem (way too short)
The Bouncer just sucked, Z.O.E. is repetitive and every other EA title besides Madden has annoying slowdown problems. Mine PS2 is also collecting dust, and I am seriously trying! I am renting games like crazy and it¡¦s not just me who feels this way, I have friends over all the time that agree. Almost every rental goes back the next day (3 or 4 days early most times)
And I did have a Playstation 1 from the launch and it had some good games right from the start (Demolition Derby, B.A.T, and some others.)
I truly think the X-box is gonna kick this things ass. Just look at the spec¡¦s in the last Nex Gen Mag.
I didn¡¦t know how bad ass that thing is going to be. Seriously if you don¡¦t know you should check it out.
The machine is going to be a monster game system, with a hard drive to boot. I just feel that Sony rushed us out this product. And if you don¡¦t agree with that just try to go buy one. The were not ready for launch as far as their availability, and I feel their systems were rushed before their hardware was up to being what it could.
I think these things will have a shelf life of MAYBE 2 more years before we see the X Box taking over things. Its easy to program for, it Will have tons of support. But who knows, maybe it will suffer from software issues too, we will just have to wait and see. But they can¡¦t do any worse than what Sony has done with their debacle. Its funny because the last sony campagin fot the original Playstation was URNOTE „²red. Remember?

It\'s all about opinion.
B.A.T. was good because it was the first time we\'ve seen such 3d graphics. The game itself sucked hardcore. The gameplay was horrible. Destruction Derby was awesome, but had mediocre controls and horrible loading times. You mentioned 2 games, I have 8 PS2 games sitting on my shelf, I did not have 8 (IMO great games) this early in the PSX\'s life. You people are all spoiled. Consoles take a while to build up, you\'re not going to have 40 AAA titles in 6 months. Look back @ the history of gaming and learn a lesson. We\'re all spoiled, and it doesn\'t work that way.

PS1 started worse than PS2 IMO.
When I bought PS1 I expected it to be perfect.I bought Toshinden and Wipeout as my first games and both rocked in their time.
Then I checked my Demo1.
GOD!!!I saw games like Twisted Metal and the graphics had terrible slowdown,Ridge Racer\'s graphics were nude compared to Wipouet,Tekken1 looked terrible compared to Toshinden, etc.
Then I realised that although some games are SUPERB some others are ****.(I was new to games and many times I was choosing graphics over gameplay.I mean PS was a breakthrough then.3D GRAPHICS!!WOW!!).But was that a reason to think PS1 was ****?NOPE.
I bought my first PS1 magazine Christmas 1996 and happened to have TGS.I saw some GREAT games that I was going to se in the future.Then PS1 was my best buy.
Great games came and I spent many enjoyable times with it.
And Imagine.I bought my PSX1 in 1996 (summer).When N64 was released in japan.
I couldnt find much PS1 killer games and it was 1 year after the european release.
And then there comes PS2.Great graphics.And yes TTT rocks more than what toshinden and tekken1 was for PS1.RRV is a better racing game for PS2 than what RR1 was for PS1.
Also DOA2 SSX MADDEN TIMESPLITTERS OMIMUSHA QUAKE3 etc.
You can find more quality titles on PS2 than PS1 in its first years.Even Saturn had slightly more killer games and games like Panza Dragoon,and Sega rally that we ve waited 3 and 2 years to get a similar game on PS(Omega Boost and VRALLY).
And we arent satisfyied with PS2????If I had PS2 I would have been more happier than when I bought PS1.

GMan2, once again I agree with you in some aspects. The hardware I feel was rushed, esp with the hardware problems (although over hyped), theres like 10 people in each forums who have expirenced PS2 problems, that alone averages out to a large amount of customers.
As for the XBox this is where I disagree.
The technical specifications are said to be greater than PS2s, but other than that theres a lot of down faults, some of these include.
1) According to some experts the XBox would melt if them specifications are true, so will the actual XBox be less.
2) The best spec console doesn\'t always win... take a look at the likes of the Saturn Vs Playstation. The saturn was the better console but through bad marketing and good marketing on Sony\'s half along with buying the rights to games like Tomb Raider the saturn lost. Then theres the N64, again a more powerful machine but again lost, and not to mention the dreamcast which generally lost againest the PS1 more than any other console it came up againest.
Admitting all these consoles were up againest the PS1 but its still a valid point when looking at the XBox againest the PS2.
3) XBox is looking dim in Japan. It may have the likes of Konami and Temco producing games but many Japanasse games developers won\'t touch it, along with the japannasse public who don\'t seem to trust forign machines (most atari machines, 3do, jaguar all forign, all failed, and they all failed because of Japan not taking an interest). Also an example of this is the Dreamcast which only towards the end of its life did the Japanasse restore their faith back in Sega from the Saturn mess up but it was too late.
4) Finally its made by Microsoft!
So I wouldn\'t rule out the PS2 as a dead console yet, also even if the XBox slaughters the PS2 Sony\'s made enough money to ensure that games will be released for the console and us gamers get our money from our purchase :), least I hope they have ! :)

The PS2 has been a blast. Not everyone will be pleased and there will obviously be quite a few that will ***** no matter what was offered.
I play games to have fun, so far My PS2 has provided me that and then some. Played "Some" ZOE, Timesplitters, SSX, Ring of Red, Smugglers Run, MGS2 Demo all in the last week and I can\'t remember feeling dissapointed at all.
Did the PS2 live up to pre-launch hype, no .... but with so much cool stuff out and much more on the way whats not to like

I played Timesplitters for about 5 hours today almost completing the game on hard except for the damn Mansion level, thats hard ****. I got my PS2 about a month ago and I love it!!

Disappointing? Lets see. I must say that the ps2 got off to a rough start, but it seems like it\'s starting to warm up. It definitely did not live up to the hype but I\'m not disappointed. Games like SSX, Timesplitters, Onimusha and Starfighter are fun to play and I see good things in the future.

See its school vacation in some parts of the US this week so that this kid is not a school drinking his milk he is in here trying to start trouble. And thanks, becuase its entertaining to see how bad parents raise their kids. But its also a sad story to see that his parents smoke crack, because of the the problems that PS2hahaha was now born with. I am compasionate to crack kids like him and you all should be too, he does not know any better... Its a shame but crack babies are babies too....

Opinions are not important. And we could careless about them. This site does not have any law not to be bias to one side or the other. This is not America, there is no 1st Amendment rights here, there is no true equality here. Your welcome to express your opinion, just remember where you are. We don\'t care if you like the Xbox, GC, DC, whatever more then the PS2. But this is a PS2 site. Don\'t expect to get respect if all you do is praise your chosen system that goes against the system that this site supports (PS2 Central, hmmmmmmmm...). And if your here simply to bash (why are you here if all you want to do is make fun of a system that this site supports?), you are not welcomed.
As for being dissappointed with the PS2, I\'m not. I love playing it. However, I also believe that in terms of living up to the hype, it didn\'t. That doesn\'t mean that the PS2 is a bad system, just isn\'t a god system. PS2 is currently, appearing to finally, show its power. The demo of MGS2, simply impressive. FF10? Amazing. Devil May Cry? Just keeps getting better and better. The Xbox, there is no reason for me to get excited. More power? Thats nice and all, but if it doesn\'t sell, its power doesn\'t mean jack. The games shown so far? Great looking, but not jaw dropping. Its all about the games. If the games don\'t look any better then PS2 games, no reason for me to get excited.
