I know many of you are hardcore gamers and love ALL systems and platforms (I know there\'s a few fanboys out there, but bear with me) and TheGIA has lifted the lid on Nintendo\'s marketing strategy. You guessed it, more delays, this time, of the NGC. This is ery dissapointing because I have been looking forward to this for quite some time. it\'s only a few months off it\'s original target and it hasn\'t slipped into 2002, but it could be on the verge. I\'d like a few NON BIASED opinions on this subject. If you don\'t like Nintendo, close the f*cking window and read no further. Otherwise, this sucks monkey crotch.

Whew.... I read the topic and thought you meant to 2002. November is ok with me. It gives some time between it and XB, giving multi platformers (like me) time to take in both launches. Hopefully this is the only slip, but with Nintendo\'s track record, I won\'t be holding my breath.
-
gamecube eh? I\'m still deciding on whether or not I should get one. Therefore im not too worrried about the delay of gamecube launch. Hmmm the way I look at it is, if its delayed, it gives me more time to scrap up some cash to get one if i decide to get one. The thing I\'m actually worried about is the delaying of FF10 posted at gamespot.com , I hope that doesnt happen because that game is too sweet. :D

But I thought hat most sites were reporting that XB was going to be released in November as well. If that\'s the case, then a head on XB vs NGC launch will be one for the ages. My vote is cast for the name of good ;)

Will this game be a launch game? I like this game. :D

I\'m 110% positive that not only will that be a launch game, but it will look even better then that.

Is it? I read that market wise, it\'d be suicide for XB to launch a full year or more after PS2. In the US, that means it has to be released in Oct. Even if they both come out at the same time, I\'m getting both, I\'ll just be spending less time with each of em... :(

All I have to say is good move by Nintendo. Here\'s why I think it\'s a good move:
1. It will give Nintendo more time to sell the GBA before they launch the NGC.
2. It will give Nintendo more time to hype up the system just a little bit. We haven\'t seen anything about the NGC yet, and I think they need to hype it just a little so more people know about it.
3. It will give Nintendo enough time to make enough consoles. They don\'t want to do the same thing Sony did on the PS2 launch.
4. It will give developers more time to complete their games. They won\'t be rushed like the PS2 launch games were.
There are some bad things about this too, like not having as much of an early launch advantage over the Xbox, but I think Nintendo made a smart move.
BTW, how many of us really expected it to come out in July? I don\'t see how Nintendo could do that because they haven\'t even shown any playable versions of the games for it yet.

But will it be the next Mario game, or a seperate Luigi only game?
-
When rumors from multiple sites conform to the same census, I\'m one to tend to go with it. November is what I heard and that\'s what I\'m sticking to. My curiosity is peaked though as to the price of these two erm, I\'d call them monsters or petite monsters, but neither really conform entirely to that distinction. In any case, a cheap GAMES machine is sure to be the holiday favorite, at least I think it would be and if that\'s the case, then I know which I\'m going to pre-order and sit next to my PS2 first. Even though both will find a nice little shady spot in my room, it\'s the games that dictate when each gets a purchase in my book and personally, Halo will be good, but not $299 good in my opinion. We shall all see soon enough though... Anyways, I\'m sleeping, I expect 20 or so replies when I awaken :)

Oh well, I have 2 consoles to buy in Nov. then...
-
...and yet again nintendo dissapointed me! nintendo when are you going to learn from you mistakes?
This will mean that the GC will have difficulty coping with ps2 in japan and with xbox already in US it will be Dead on arrival.....I don\'t like it :( It makes me angry!

I\'m sure GC will do fine... N64 didn\'t do too bad sales wise (although you can count all the AAA games on your fingers).
-
Well, kick me, but I don´t expect to much from Nintendo...
All they do is bring on some kiddie Games like Mario and stuff !
"Bad fur day" is fun, but I don´t need a N64 or Gamecube for that !
It´s like you´ve said EThugg: You can count the good games on one hand...
What I´m looking foreward to is the X-Box !
IF it can lift up to our expectations, than it´ll be fun... if not - Well, I do hate MS anyway... :D
-
THE EYE you summed it all up! With xbox this out christmas I dont see areason to buy a GC, nintendo will loose many people to xbox if they release the gc in 2002
When is the european release 2003?? j/k
but xbox was delayed in europe to 2002 aswel, so GC might have a little chance overthere
-
i just dont see how some of you are like ill buy both, either your a kid and your parents are rich, or all you do is pay for games(who needs food anyway)
-
Grrr Ryu, I didn\'t see your post before I posted something similar in console debating. ;)
Nah, it\'s alright, I forgive you. But I\'m moving this bad boy. :D

umm..no i spend more money on CDs, food/drinks (at school etc) than games :) I don\'t have the cash to support more than one or maybe 2 consoles. I have already given up pc gaming for ps2.

Aw comeon, who doesn\'t love the Gamecube?

I stand corrected. Come on, can\'t we please move beyond what\'s "mature" and "cool" in exchange for playing some of the greatest games of all time? I mean shiet, it\'s a nintendo system and if you say that you hated all forms of Mario then I will get up, buy a plane ticket to your country, seek you out, and make you sit and play all the Mario games on Super Mario All Stars :D
i just dont see how some of you are like ill buy both, either your a kid and your parents are rich, or all you do is pay for games(who needs food anyway)
What\'s wrong with having the ability to space out your funds enough to find space in your budget for said hardware? Hell, I see a lot of you went out and bought 1200 computers all at once and that didn\'t seem too damn difficult, but buying consoles that are at least a year apart for only 300 bucks a piece or less is a problem? I\'m sure within the time between the PS2 launch and the NGC launch some of you could scrounge up enough for a new console or two if you really strived for it.
-
I would have been surprised if they did not delay. After the N64 I never expect them to release things... ever. Then when they do I am pleasently surprised. :) So long as a get a great Mario game sometime in the future I am happy.
-
but, a FPS Metroid!?!?!?!?!???!!??!?!?! What the crap is that?

Or maybe some of us work and make decent money!!!
As long as it comes out before Christmas I will be happy. I\'ve been waiting this long, whats one more month.
BTW, It was only delayed to make sure that the games are up to par and that they don\'t run into the same problems that Sony did when they launched. THey are trying to have a surplus. IMO that is good. More power to them.
As for Xbox and GC launching around the same time? I think a lot of consumers might lean towards the cube. If the developers are telling the truth a lot of the GC games should me comparable if not better than some Xbox games and the price should be significantly less. Plus Nintendo/Sega/Playstation are words that are almost synonymous with gaming in the US. MS really has their work cut out for them.
[EDIT] Is this thing even official? Nintendo didn\'t confirm anything. This might just be speculation. Japan\'s launch is definately delayed but nothing has been said about the US launch.
-
Sorry about the second post. I didn\'t feel like editing again.
I went and looked around and I don\'t think the GC will be delayed here in the States.
Quote taken from IGN (http://cube.ign.com/news/32454.html)
In an interview with Reuters, Nintendo\'s president Hiroshi Yamauchi reiterated the company\'s plan to deliver the GameCube console into the hands of US gamers this October without a delay. "The Christmas season is critically important, especially in the United States," Yamauchi commented. "We must release the new machine in October there."
That seems pretty good IMO.
Although I could be grasping a straws here. :D
-
Ah well, I\'m disappointed with the news. Though wasn\'t it supposed to be launched here in October? One month isn\'t so bad.. I\'ll just fill the void with all the PS2 games that\'ll be out. ;)
- dm
- so whose god will f\'cking save me now?
-
Meh, I truly don\'t care.
I was planning to get the GameCube at X-Mas so this delay doesn\'t bother me at all since I\'ll be getting the games at the same time anyways.
In fact, I\'m kind of glad. Nintendo and their developers haven\'t exactly had a lot of time to work on NGC projects so this gives them more time to make their games better. There is also less pressure on developers now since they have longer to work. We\'ll see more quality games at launch because of this move. There won\'t be a horrible launch like the PS2\'s launch, that\'s for sure. I bet After Dark and Metroid will be launch titles now. :D
I feel non-lazy today so I\'m gonna quote some people\'s posts just for the hell of it.
Will this game be a launch game? I like this game.
Possibly, but a Mario game is more likely. It will probably be a game where both characters are playable though...
...and yet again nintendo dissapointed me! nintendo when are you going to learn from you mistakes?

I\'m surprised your disapointed since you don\'t even care about what goes on with Nintendo.
Well, kick me, but I don´t expect to much from Nintendo...

"Bad fur day" is fun, but I don´t need a N64 or Gamecube for that !
*sigh*
I hate people who think Nintendo systems only have kiddie games...
but, a FPS Metroid!?!?!?!?!???!!??!?!?! What the crap is that?
Retro explained why TPS mode couldn\'t work, it was way too complicated. TPS sucks anyways... First person shooters rock. Besides, they got people on the Quake 3 and Half-Life team working on it. It will be a great game nontheless.
I\'m a little disapointed in Nintendo, but I still don\'t care since I\'ll be getting one at the same time anyways.
-
Come on, gimme a break. WHo DIDNT expect a delay out of Nintendo? Raise your hands.
N64 was delayed. SNES was delayed. 64DD was delayed (to extinction), etc. Nintendo is the king of delays. Couple that with the fact that they have basically no third party support (Hell, the Dying DC has more support than GC) and everything has been hush hush out of Nintendo regarding it, I dont expect it to make 2001.
Besides, I was planning on getting an X-Box first anyway. (can you say Panzer Dragoon?)

Well seeing as though Nintendo was marketing a "before-Christmas" launch date for the Gamecube, this isn\'t dissapointing at all. It will also give gamers in Japan time to think about all the games coming out, since the first Gamecube games will be shown at this May\'s E3, which would have given the Japanese only about two months advanced notice. August in Japan seems like a good date, because it\'s also a little closer to Christmas for them.
All in all I think it\'s worth it. I am fairly confident the \'Cube will be released before 2002 in North America, because of Yamauchi\'s constant comments on how important Christmas is. One month isn\'t really a delay anyways, and Europe still hasn\'t budged from its projected release date. All in all, this means more time to recover from the GBA, more time to save, and more quality in the games at launch. With Acclaim recently announcing 5 "November 2002" games (including Crazy Taxi!!!!), that means we won\'t have to wait too long for some quality titles, either.
Now on a completely different topic, The Legend of Zelda. I think this will be Nintendo\'s next major "delaying" product. The graphics are completed and its sort of slated for a Fall 2002 release, but I\'ll be damned if Nintendo releases it on time! ;)
-
I really don\'t see the GC making the 2001 lauch. I count on it making it in mid / late 2002, like typical Nintendo. I remember the N64 delays, same with 64DD which ended up never coming out , outside of Japan.
Nintendo is goin\' to need a impressive launch list and low price tag.
On another note, why is it everyone is worried if a game is mature? Who cares! If it is fun, isn\'t that what matters?
-
Living, I completely agree with you about that maturity statement. I mean, honestly, pretty much all of us have been playing games since the NES or SNES days, and I doubt any of you decided to get a game based on whether it was mature or not.
I always hear people complaining about Nintendo making kiddy games, and they don\'t appeal to me. I understand if you talk about games like Teletubbies, or Elmo\'s Adventures that don\'t appeal to you, but it isn\'t like Mario games are at that level.
A good game is a good game. There shouldn\'t be anything that holds you back from getting that game other than it being on another console. You\'re just depriving yourself of another enjoyable experience.

The Gamecube will launch:
December 20 2001....there will be no hardware shortages(well maybe..but not as bad as someone eles\'s;))..there will be more games and look better.
Why is that some hate nintendo for this yet can\'t wait for the most delayed game in history(GT3?);)
Beast: just like how the death of sega was pretty obvious to the non-blind people?:D

Well, Earthbound 64 did see many more delays.. though that was canceled, so maybe that doesn\'t apply. ;) Another example that would work here is MSR; it was delayed quite a bit as well, if I recall.
Still, though--delays can\'t really be considered a good thing.

Sometimes delays can be the best thing on the planet here are some examples.
[list=1]
- If it\'s an Army Men Game or other 3DO product
- If the game need a little more work done to it.
- If it\'s N Players and he need a shot of life saving anti venom after being bitten by a poisionous snake, look i am only j/k or am i muhahahahahhahahahahhahahahah
- The Delay of the X box and Gamecube could be good to because it stops N player from changing sides like he normaly dose.

ROFL!!!
my god...some people just HATE me:laughing:
ooseven...(lol..okay)...what i said in my post is all facts(except my december date) even ryu would agree with them..so would that make him a bias anti-ps2 bigot? nuff said:D
sheesh...
-
I\'ll believe it when I see it, that is all I can say. Nintendo is known for bad launches and I don\'t see this changing. Vendors had problems with the SuperNes\'s, the N64 was delayed time and time again and only had two games at launch.
Either way, the launch of the GC will be critical for Nintendo if they hope to make any progress into the so called "next generation".
:roll eyes:
-
I can\'t speak for anyone else but myself. I grew up on Nintendo since the beginning of NES. And while I enjoyed nearly every Nintendo game, I am grown up now.
I\'ll still enjoy a Mario game, but it\'s getting tedious to save that dumb b!tch of a princess for the 100th time. I\'d prefer a more serious-toned game. Doesn\'t mean it has to have bucket-loads of blood and profanity, just something a bit more serious. For example, Majora\'s Mask was much more intriguing to me than Ocarina of Time, simply because of its darker atmosphere. I\'ll admit that Nintendo is a great developer, but they need to expand and grow up as well. How many times is Miyamoto going to make a zelda or mario? I don\'t mind Mario, just change the damn plot. Looking back now, Mario 2 was a nice change of pace.
- dm
- so whose god will f\'cking save me now?
-
Hey DM,
I don\'t know if you care or not; but Miyamoto is actually working on some brand new franchises right now.
-

Actually I do. I\'d love to see what else Miyamoto can cook up. The few times he\'s gone outside the realm of mario/zelda (f-zero/waverace/etc) have been amazing. I don\'t blame him for making what people want (another zelda/mario), that\'s fine, that makes sense for business, but it wouldn\'t hurt to step outside the line every now and then. :)

Just to comment on the delay, I can\'t speak for all Nitendo fans, but I know I feel this way...
It used to be like "DELAY! DELAY!!!!" and I\'d be all "Oh crap, damn... ARRGHH!" ...
Now it\'s more like "hey, they delayed something." "oh?"
Heh, sure Nintendo would delay Christmas if it could, but by now I\'m so numbed to the delays that it doesn\'t matter at all.

Hey everyone don\'t forget that Nintendo originally said the were going to release the GC worldwide(simultaneously) in 2000. So it has already been delayed significantly.
