have the  same problem..."disc read error" on PS2 when you put dvd in console.
I have SPCH 30004 and 1.20E dvd driver.
The only time when PS2 read dvd is when is"cold".
But after 5-10 minutes wont play any dvd.
No problem with audio cd or Playstation cd.
I take it back to the store where I bougt console and they told me: "call us after 12 days!!" Jesus!!!!

No...

The only ones who have probl. with their CD or DVD playback are some new members...

I got  2 words for ya ; Retrun it! ...it has a year warranty on it so ask a refund from your store

The Eye> yes it\'s strange but also very frustrated. In first moment I think problem is dirty disc. I clean it up, then I rent a brend new dvd, but nothing (I try 10dvd\'s).
I read on the net that SPCH 30004 is new motherboard, so probably it\'s bug.

Metal Gear>I pay it 450$ (live in Croatia), waiting for long time and I want to use that thing without problem.
Did I ask too much for my money :))
