i like the one with the Raybrig NSX, the NSX was so awesome on GT1 it wasnt as good on the second

I just realized G3 will never be the Ultimite Driving simulater for one reason and one reaosn only. In all of the 5,000 pictures I have seen not a single car with a Dead Bug on the windshield.
So close and yet so far.

i started reading that post and i thought you were in deep sh**

In all seriousness, if there\'s no accurate (and visual) damage model GT3 won\'t be the ultimate driving simulator regardless of how pretty the graphics are, or how well the cars handle. I\'m not cr@pping on the game btw (I\'ve already paid for my copy) I\'m just stating my opinion.

No game will be the ultimate simulator then cause its the Manufacturers that won\'t allow damage
It would be cool if you in 1st person mode and you hit this big juicy bug that just covers the screen as guts slowly get wind spred up your windsheild and the wipers just spread the guts around
Then there\'s birds and farm animals maybe

Play Jarret and Labonte Racing on the PSX, licenced cars from Toyota, Nissan, Chrysler, Mitsubishi, Lincoln, BMW, Vauxhall, Audi and more. And you can completely F**k-up those cars - everything from smashing lights, to wheels flying off, to windshields smashing, hoods flying off and hitting other cars etc. Car damage is a huge part of the driving/racing experience.
Same goes for Colin McRae 2.0.
I don\'t know why Polyphony don\'t have a damage model.
-
ok did you ever play the damage thing the had on the arcade for GT2?
One bump and your car was ****ed and it couldnt go over about 50
-
I know, that was a start for the series, but that needs to be implemented into the simulation mode as well - racing is so much more exciting when you have the added risk of car damage, and it looks very very cool.
I don\'t see the point of GT3\'s new agressive AI when there are no consequences for the other drivers bumping into you.
-
they still want the game to be fun, hows it any fun if an opponent can hit you and you cant get near your top speed, it would just **** you over for the entire race
-
You\'d be surprised, it adds a huge element of danger to the races, it\'s really exciting in J&L when you piss off other cars and they try to get back at you. Part of the fun is also knowing that you too can screw over other drivers by crashing into them - in longer races you can also go into the pits to get minor repairs.
The damage model also means you need to have more skill to race - you can\'t simply bump off other cars or off barriers like in GT1 & 2 and you need to show more restraint and patience when trying to pass other cars.
-
sweet wallpapers. Thanks guy ;)
-
ok the reason there is no damage is beacuse GT is a simulation for one and J&L is more arcade racing because trust me if your hood oor winseld and what not flys off your car - it is not gona keep running like that - plus if even one manufactuer says no to haveing damamge on its cars then all the others won;t have it either - they aren\'t gonna make some cars show damage and then not on others
-
I still think J&L had some pretty damn good handling - different damage has different effects on the handling and Colin McRae 2.0 has more realistic handling than GT2 IMO.
But you do make a good point with perhaps some car manufacturers not wanting damage - that could be the answer. However, I\'d prefer better gameplay with less cars, than no damage model and a few more cars.
Of course, very few people have played Colin McRae 2.0 or J&L, which is a shame because there\'s this huge misconception that a damage model ruins the fun of a racing game when in fact it does quite the opposite.
-
Saying that car damage "wrecks" the fun out of the game, just \'cause it ruins the championships for you is exactly like saying that Honda Civics should be put out of the game because they\'re worthless against the Supra...it\'s just part of the challenge of the game! If you are not fond of car damage, then you\'re just not ready for reality games...

no i think thats a terrible comparision, one wreck and the end of the race would really piss me off, and civics are a good beginning car they hold there place in the games supras arent cheap

But in a way that forces you to balance driving carefully with still pushing the car hard enough to try to win - something that is integral to ALL real life racing. And, as I\'ve said before, contrary to what many people think, it actually makes the races more exciting and more fun.
I think more people should try out J&L or Colin McRae 2.0 and see how a real damage model raises the genre to the next level.

i agree how you put that it forces you to push the cars power carefully but it could get a little ugly
-
Bozco,
Indeed - in J&L it get\'s very ugly!
Jarret and Labonte Stock Car Racing has been out for almost year now - you should look for it, it will definately be cheap, and it is (IMO) better than GT2 - doesn\'t have as ultra realistic handling, but the racing action, the damage model, the agressive AI, the track and car selection, and the graphics make it the complete package.
I know it\'s probably tough to go back to PSX games now that so many PS2 games are being released, but if you see it for cheap you can\'t go wrong with a purchase. With the PS2\'s texture smoothing option on it looks even better.
-
Better than GT2, id have to see to believe
-
Yup, racing is so much more intense. In GT2 you\'re basically only racing against the track - the other cars are basically drones, it\'s not like they ever try to stop you from passing them and even if they get in the way you just out-brake them into the next turn.
In J&L the opposition AI is really agressive, they won\'t budge an inch, not only do they cover the racing line they improvise and constantly try to block you, and each other off. Not to mention if you bump into them they\'ll get pissed and come after you. It\'s great fun, and in J&L you really feel like you\'re racing against worthy opposition, and yet at the same time you do have to worry about pushing the car too much and spinning out of control, as well as worrying about the damage. Oh yeah, you also race against 11 other cars rather than the paltry 5 or 6 in GT.
Some of the most fun races are ones where you end up finishing 6th or 7th, but you\'re car is completely busted up and you basically spend the last two laps checking your rear view mirror constantly and fending off those trying to pass you - you get a real sense of accomplishment, rather than in GT & GT2 where, by comparision, races feel more like time trials on a course against Sunday drivers rather than actual races.
If you\'re interested here\'s my review, it\'s long, but thorough. At the time I still felt perhaps GT2 was better, but months later there\'s only one racing game I still play:

Sometimes the games with no hype are the best.

i guess ill have to try it if you regard it so highly
