Red Faction as been locked in at 30 FPS.
Now, Im sure people are going to complain about this.
But, Im not.
Know why?
Because for once we got a Revolutionary FPS on our hands and Im not going to ***** about the Framerate.

You might want to play the actual game before you call it revolutionary.
30FPS?
-
well, they talk like 30FPS is a really good thing. Why doesnt everybody take Timesplitters and make a bunch of games using that game engine. That game was super fast!!!!!
-
Well, Red Faction for instance couldn\'t be done with Timesplitters -engine, as it has the Geo-Mod -feature ( blast everything into pieces ) - and I\'m up to sacrifice 30 FPS for the feature and the ground-breaking graphics.
If it doesn\'t slow down from that - it\'s just fine.
-
60 would have been nice.
But if it never dips, that would be okay..
-
What!!! 30 FPS!! I\'ll pass on this game!, Nah I\'ll still get this title. :D
-
Jumpman,
name another FPS thats even TRYING to accomplish what THQ is.
Even if this game is terrible.
It still is REVOLUTIONARY, and I dont have to play it to tell you that.
Ill have to play it to tell you its good.
Just read up on the game.
You have to agree this game has done something radically new.
-
yeah jumpman stop complaining, rather a locked 30 that a unstable 60, oh and perfect dark featured a crappy framerate! even with expension pack
-
30FPS is good!
But why cant they get it up to 60FPS??
Common, is it that hard?
I mean, look at one of the best looking games.
MGS2 and GT3. They run at a solid rate of 60FPS!
/FAST
-
It is a shame, but i want to see the game before i decided what to do,but i am glad that it stays at 30 fps rather then,it changing from 30 to 60 back to 30,that gets on my nervers.

What a jackass, you\'ve seemed to journey into a whole ne realm of idiocy lately, what gives ???????
Teh Geo Mod Engine is a first of its kind and will definetly eat up processor power.
What would you rather have a smooth 30FPS or a choppy 60FPS
30FPS will work just fine if the game offers the experience it boasts which I believe it will.
Another reason why this game isn\'t running at 60FPS like MGS2 and GT3 is because the game is being simultaneously designed for the PC and it was started on the PC 1st, so you know the PS2 code is using PC port code. If it was a PS2 game only from the ground up 60FPS would probably be possible.
-
As long as the game runs smooth im not going to be a little cry baby cause it doesnt look godly,i mean geo mod is going to be awesome
-
As long as the game stays above 24fps and doesn\'t have slowdowns it\'ll be fine.
-
Yeah I agree, 30 fps is actually pretty fast, I mean its actual slowdowns which bother me, I couldn\'t enjoy SSX cause of it.
So if im happy you lot should be :)
Anyway Quake 3 is 60 fps but it does slowdown, I actually would prefer 30 fps as long as there is no slowdown, seen some video footage today and there didn\'t seem to be any slowdown.
30 FPS fine.
Slowdown Not fine.
I think it will be "locked" at 30 fps.
Lets hope so.
-
I was under the impression that it was almost impossible to tell the difference between 60 and 30 fps, since our eyes see only about 25 fps. The reason they always try for higher fps is so that if there is a slowdown, it doesn\'t dip below the dreaded "visible" threshold. Correct me if I\'m wrong (but it seems to me that I always max details on my FPS computer games untill the fps is 30-40 and they run perfectly)
-
30 fps isn\'t that bad. If you complain, then how do you watch TV, let alone go to the movies?
-
Don\' get me wrong, but 30 FPS is crap!! This is what Summoner was running at and it was a bit slow...even annoying at times...I really hope they can up the speed with the final product somehow...:( Not only because that would make the game better, but I\'m really looking forward to this game...
-

I am so sick and tired of this damn statement. Before I even bother to argue, go search for the facts. We can see way beyond 25fps.

- so whose god will f\'cking save me now?
-
Yes, but I hear that Red Faction is also running at a max resolution of 640x480. I heard somewhere, I think a tech site and correct me if I\'m wrong (this does sound a little weird), but if something is running at 640x480 the TV can only run display a picture of 30 FPS, but if it\'s lower, not quite sure how much, it can run at higher frames. It sounds kinda fishy, but any tech guys hear to correct me on this?
Anyway, while 60 FPS is obviously smoother to the eye then 30 FPS then, as long as their is no slow-down I could care less. Sure 60 would be better, but this game is going to be fun no matter what. I don\'t think it affect the game truthfully by all that much...just my oppinion.
-

thats wrong dood, the human eye can notice the difference between 30 - 60 fps, and its a big difference
this is good news...but i dont see this being a stable 30fps. Volition have done some wonderful things with the PS2, but framerate has been a problem with them.
Don\' get me wrong, but 30 FPS is crap!! This is what Summoner was running at and it was a bit slow...even annoying at times...
Summoner had a perrfectly fine framerate...unless you wanted the camera to zoom out, then it dropped uite markedly
this is what i was talkign about, Volition have framerate troubles, but they have made great games
but it isnt the same type as gameplay as timesplitters, which IMO is easily the fastest paced FPS ever, in which it needed the good frame rate so you could turn around without having a strobe light effect. this is going for a much more Half Life feel to it, and im hoping it can actually be a better single player game than half life...now those are expectations

I totally agree...it will be tough to do, but it sounds like it\'s going to be a heck of a 1 player experience. Can\'t wait for the final game!

Well, Red Faction has never been graphically stunning, its always been about the engine\'s more advanced features. BTW: Trespasser was revolutionary until it was released. ;)
-
Hoej,
What was Trespasser\'s about?
-
Oh :) It was a PC game loosely based on the Jurassic Park license. The entire world was supposed to be interactive and be based around a \'revolutionary\' arm system. Basically this arm could do anything from picking up and firing a weapon to slapping around a branch. All of this was supposed to be possible because of an amazing physics engine that allowed you to do whatever you wanted.
The dinosaurs around you where going to be these incredible AI beasts with moods based on the their surrounds. You could, in theory, judge their mood just by hearing the different sounds it made. In other words, you could hear if the T-Rex a mile away was injured or starving.
In reality, the guns got slapped out of your \'revolutionary\' hand by leaves and branches. If a dinosaur attacked you the gun would go flying from you hand. A lot of the levels required box stacking and the incredible, real-life physics made them slip around on top of one another like blocks of melting ice. The difference in a dinosaur\'s moods was not noticeable and anything that suggested a personality was a scripted event. To make maters worse, the game was made for 3DFX and was released just as the TNT was released and bought up in huge numbers, leaving many players with insanely choppy and ugly graphics. Basically, one of the biggest let downs in gaming history. I am sure you can search the web and find a ton about it, sort of like ET for the Atari. :)
-
Maken X for the Dreamcast ran at a constant 60 FPS, but the levels had less detail. It ran super fast and had great graphics. Timesplitters is the same, but everybody complains about the graphics? I think there good, not mindblowing but good. If you go to Sega forums you hear the same arguments about the framerate in games. Everybody expects 60fps these days. 30 is fine by me and I\'ll be getting this game for sure!

I find this topic funny. PS2 fanboys bash the Xbox because they say it WILL have "PC-style" games. All of a sudden a "PC-style" game is NOW one of PS2\'s top games...go figure.
Although the game is good...30 fps is still kinda disappointing. I actually thought the DC would be the last system with 30 fps games. However, jaggies were supposed to be a thing of the past with the PS2 also, so I\'m not at all surprised. So I won\'t complain. I\'ll just drag my ass off to block buster and rent that mofo. :D
A toast to all "PC-style" games!!! Woo-hoo!!
-
I\'m sorry DirectX, what was the point? I didn\'t understand a word you said. Whats wrong with PC style games? And what does Xbox have to do with this?
-
He\'s trying to link people who say "Xbox will get nothing but PC ports" to these people who like Red Faction with its "PC style". Style and port are two different things. If its a port, why bother. If its just the style, I don\'t see anything wrong with that. Also, even though both are coming out, Red Fraction for the PC and the PS2 are not ports of each other. They are just made at the same time (like Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill X).

i wouldn\'t exactly call it a top PS2 game, graphically it isn\'t near any of the main titles (MGS2 / GT3 / etc..) coming out and gameplay-wise it\'s only a fps (with enhanced features new to the genre). it just happens to be the flavor of the month,that\'s all...don\'t get your panties all ruffled up over it,let down your hair, pull off your dress, take off the lipstick, enjoy games for what they are :D
-
Jaggies?
Ive seen those on Xbox games too.
As for 30 FPS, what do you expect on a game pushing this much physics.
If they make a part 2 then Im sure the will be able to increase the FPS.
-
The demo has terrible slowdown, under 30 fps. If they pull off fixing that, great, but sinse the demo and final are so close, I doubt it. It takes all the fun out of blowing ppl up w/ the remote explosives when it sputters around 22-25 fps temporarily... not to mention this \'revolutionary\' geo-mod, while nice and all, comes at the expense of realistic character damage. When I blow someone up, I want arms and legs flying, I dont want the guy to fall down and just lay there. After playing the demo, I am only looking foward to the story. The game itself is ok, but nothing new.
-
Yeah the demo is poor for FPS but the final version has apparently fixed it. Im doubtful like you since they have had so little time to change much from the demo. However I seen the promotional trailer on PSW and thats running smoothly and I couldn\'t spot any slow down (I was looking too and tend to notice these things).
Im still doubtful all will be good, but im still looking forward to this game hoping it will.
-
who cares if it only runs at 30 fps, as long as it is smooth, what do you expect for a gme with that much physics. It will still look good from what ive seen of the demos, lets just hope they get the game play right, i dont want another mindless blaster.
