i got it in the mail today, it slows down sometimes during the game but blowing everything up is awesome
-
Seeing as you live in Ohio, as do I and you got it today and I didn\'t it MUST COME TOMORROW!!
-
Blowing up everything? The best part should be blowing up the people. And then nothing. They just lay there. I was dissapointed.

for one thing they are like the timesplitters control and im happy because timesplitters control is awesome its perfected, how can you not like it i like it more than the bond game for N64\'s controls
-
Seeing as i have the demo sitting in my room.
The game is just great, and the controls are a ***** to get used to at first. I love the Geomod things, and i am going to pre order this one real soon.
Graphics are also GREAT:D
To much slowdown in it though.:(

I won\'t pre-order this game because of this
If its not fixed in the final version I\'m done with Volition and there PC port games
Obviously Volition is using solid chunks of there PC code in there PS2 games and there PS2 games will always suffer because of this

Even though I love the Dual Shock I have to say that N64 had one of the best if not the best controler for 3d games. expecially first person shoots. I mean what other controller could you play goldeneye with one had while eating a slice of pizza in the other. I just didn\'t like how Time Splitters didn\'t allow you a custom set up for controls. Well when the demo comes I\'ll try to make the best of it:(

Timesplitters does let you change your controls. Just pause the game and go over to preferences. I\'ve always hated the N64 controller because of how crappy the analog was (IMO :)). I love the PS2 controller setup. It\'s perfect for FPS games (it might take some time to get used to it, especially if you are used to using the N64 controller, but it\'s great once you\'re used to it)
And I think they could have done better than this on Red Faction. Like ddaryl said, they were not using the PS2 how it was meant to be used. They were just porting it from the PC. Big mistake. Slowdown on the PS2 (or any next gen console for that matter) is a sign that the developers don\'t know what they\'re doing.
-
Hmm, haven\'t gotten mine yet...
-
i got the demo today, well i got 2 demo\'s today :) and i played it, first of all i must say it is very short demo, but the geo mod kicks ass, and the controls are hard to get sed 2, but work smooth after a few minutes, i wish people would blow up as well, but not in this game, i dont mind, you get to drive the sub vehicle, its pretty sweet, im still trying to find the freaking rocket launch, anyomne find it yet, im pretty sure you gotta blow something up to find it
and ddaryl, i will buy this game the day it comes out, i hope they take care of the slowdown,a nd they should, i mean if ther is slowodown, this game will flop.
-
well i hope i get my demo but i think i registered pretty late though - oh well
i hope they fix the slowdown or there is no way i will buy it - if there is slowdown i oneplayer mode - iamgine four player mode
-
You lucky people... I just wonder that if just maybe the demo would come with the OP2M next month?
I just want to try that geo-mod feature... I REALLY DO... :)
-
Those are my fears: The release is so near and I don´t think, that they will able to fix those slowdowns in time...
IF they are really so bad, like ppl say, then it´s a shame ! Does anybody know if the real think will suffer from slowdowns ??!
-
The demos that all of you are receiving: Aren\'t they early builds from quite a while back? If that\'s the case, then I see no reason why Volition wouldn\'t have time to smooth out the framerate for the upcoming release of the final game.

The real think ???
Its to hard to tel, but I\'m already stirring things up at the Red Faction BBS. There\'s afew guys there trying to tell me that SLow down is to be expected but not a game playing at 30FPS on a PS2.
This is why I won\'t buy it on day 1. I gave Volition the benefit of the doubt on the Summoner but c\'mon twice no way.
Time to make a statement, Slowdown is annoying. I can live with it, but with games like GT3 MGS2, ZOE, Onimusha and others running smoothly at 60FPS why should I
-
i agree with most every comment of this game (demo),it is very cool but has some questionable things about it too. i\'m glad that every (free) copy i ordered showed up (for myself / friends) today,it was a nice break in the day to recieve it. i\'ll find out what my friends have to say about it tomorrow. i hope more companies release free demos of new games,i like this type of trend :)

Yes ddaryl, I´ve read this Topic at this "RF Forum" also !!!
They are idiots... I wanted to post a comment, but then I decided not to waste time on them !
Your statement was right !!!
If they only can program PC Games, then they should stop messup things on the PS2...
-
There is no excuse for lazy-ass programming. Just as ddaryl said, when you have games like MGS2, GT3, ZOE etc showing off what the PS2 can produce in terms of visuals, there should be very little reason a second-gen game produced by a developer with one PS2 game under their belt to be running this choppy.
It`s not like the machine can`t handle the game, sloppy programming is the worst sin a developer can commit. Porting code wholesale from the PC version is typical of lazy, overpaid PC programmers. Volition better stop using YABASIC and learn how to code in asm if they want this game running any better.
-
man you guys talk about this game like the frame rate is instant death...
when i played the demo i noticed tha there was slowdown, but not the god forsaken hell spawn slowdown you guys are talk about, and im sure they improved the slowdown if not all at least a little, and the multi player, i mean if they leave the game with s/d then imagine how multi player will run, like UT? all framey well i think they have fixed the problem, when they added this feature, its been 6 weeks since i ordered the demo, so they had more than 6 weeks, about 8 or more, to fix this problem, i think you guys expectations are so high now that you have seen MGS2 in action, i can tell you no game will meet those expectations this year like MGS2 did, we got more than we expected, so i think every ones expectations are reallly high for up coming games now, im my opinion, so it has a little slowdown, so what!? im getting this game one day 1 and everyone that didnt cause of the possible slowdown will recieve a review on it from me, so you can find out if it still does or doesnt :)

actually you can custom setup the controls in timesplitters

Some interesting points raised.
My first comment is, isn\'t this the demo that we all know has slowdown already ? And thus theres no need to talk about it ? I mean isn\'t this the preview code IGN got there hands on months ago and commented on the slowdown ?
Secondly I completely agree that slowdown is unaccepatable but i\'ve always preeched that.
Also I do think our expectations are high but without due cause. We have all bought the hype even though some of us wouldn\'t want to admit it, thats why we got the console quickly rather than waited, but after seeing some of the stuff out so far theres no need for dodgee slow down titles.
Im still keeping my fingers crossed but I can see the final release being a flop, although I hope it doesn\'t cause this game could be really good.
-
Just received mine as well.
Slowdown is not too bad. It should be better, yes, but it isn\'t all that bad. It IS just a demo remember.
I am eagerly awaiting this game, and I am glad to see it coming along very well. It was a little too dark for my tastes, but, yeah... I\'m gonna get it when it comes out.
Again, with the slowdown, several reviewers have talked to THQ about it and they have stated that they will address the issue.
Fear not, this game will be good when it comes out.

Some people like a second point of view and i was telling all of us americans that i got mine and they should get theres soon, the game has barely any slowdown so dont cry deal with it a game isnt ruined cause of it
-
yeah, the slowdown in minimal, only like in big open spaces and when theres alot of explosions, doesnt ruin the game at all, i dont know what these people are smoking. I love it, i\'m buying it the second it comes out, Good Game!!!
-
I already preordered it
-
i just got the demo in today. i love it. :D i love blowing up walls and stuff, i never got to do that before.

:crying: of course it is. Games with slowdown are crap. ;)
-
what code did you get at the end? i got 18181
i just wanna know if the game generates the code or it\'s just in the game......
-
I got the same code
I cant find where to input it online though
-
yeah... its crap...
oh and about that slowing down thing... its not so bad... it would be better if there was no slowing own but the game is pretty good.... i, like everybody else, love blowing stuff up....
oh and one more thing.... does that big fish in the water ever die? i hit it like 10 times with a torpedo and nothing happened... hmm... oh well.... good demo anyways...
-
the big fish takes three direct torpedos!!

NO, a game isnt ruined because of a little slow down, what are you thinking

A \'game\' might not be ruined by it, but the experience is marred.

ok... i also got the same code 18181, thats not good, maybe hey havent started the contest? or maybe its just a sham
-
you guys are lucky, i wish i could moan about the slowdown, etc. but i cant, just be glad you can get a demo. Its a old demo, the slowdown will be gone by the time it comes out. come on, think positively
-

Haha.
Take a look at my emoticons you will then relise that I was prehaps being sarcastic or just trying to wind up slowdown fan boys. ;)
- Nah seriously for a second, im really againest slowdown, it in my opinion ruins a game, I couldn\'t get into the swing of things with SSX for the constant slowdown everytime you went around a corner.
That is just me though. Its just my opinion which im not saying is correct, im just saying that its me. :)
-
Well, it\'s good to hear comments on this game since I\'ve been waiting for it to come out. Unfortunately, my copy of the demo still hasn\'t shown up. Hopefully I will get it soon. I would really like to jusge for myself if the slowdown is really that bad.

SSX never bothered me cause it never slowed down under 50FPS for me
I hear some people complain but SSX plays very smooth
Red Faction starts off at 30FPS so when it slows down we\'re down to 15-20 FPS and thats chop chop chop
-
I still havent got mine....like I would have time to play it with all the OT I am getting this week...atleast I\'ll have more $$$$ to buy PS2 games and maybe a new car.

Im glad to hear that. In the UK however we have PAL, i.e slower games and you could literally see the screen go choppy when going round corners. Also the intro to the tracks was very choppy. It wasn\'t too bad but not for me.
I know what you mean about Red Faction. Lets hope it is locked at 30 FPS.
-
How long did it take you guys to get it? I have been waiting for a while. I signed up about one or two months ago. Can\'t remember. All I can do is sit and wait...
-
What does living in Ohio have anything to do with this? Just asking. I still haven\'t got my demo!!
-
Yet only one recieved his so far. So the shipping of these demoes do not appear to be by city. My guess is, its by the time you signed up for it. But I\'m not sure of the latter either.
-
I still havent got mine.....
-
how long is this demo guys
-
about 45-1 Hour, if you like to look around and experiment with things. You could run through it in about 15-20 mins if you didnt do anything but kill.
-
I finally got it today! havent played it yet.....I will have a review later tonight or tomorrow....I hope

Yeah I got that demo two days ago. Played around with it some. Like others, couldn\'t manuver the sub easy enough to keep from getting blasted. Very cool effect/ability in being able to "blast around" problematic areas.
However, I feel I must ask (and someone is welcome to say "its altogether different") how come if Saddam can use PS2s for talemetry ballistics we can\'t have a 2nd gen FPS on the PS2 that rivals Counter-Strike. The AI isn\'t so particularly bad (well, except for the droans that run right up to your kneecaps to squat & shoot at you...WTF is that all about??!!), but I have a problem with the mottled scenery. I mean, where you first start out???...that does not look (to me) much better than the environments in PSX\'s game ONE (if anyone remembers that game). Sorry, but the graphics on this machine can flat out SCREAM...so THQ I think you missed the boat on that one a bit. Controller scheme is kinda "eh". I mean, even *I* like a joystick over a mouse (and I know how much FPS purists tout mouse siting)...but the looking with this game\'s analog stick is like discombobulated molassas. I\'ll pass for something else more worthy of my $50 beans...
-
All you damn Ohioians that have your copy. I signed up for mine the day it was posted and still nothing. I live in Dayton OH, which is a fairly big city in the state. I just don\'t get why I don\'t have my copy yet.
-
I wish people would stop bustin on the graphics.
Personally, I think the game is rockin.
I got it in and played it, and right now its installed on the Circuit City demo unit at my work.
I have gotten quite a few people to look into buying it.
I love how you can blow anything up.
I made a passage way that was like 30 feet deep before.
It was awesome.
-
But I\'m still waiting for my copy. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...I have a feeling that by the time I get the demo, the game will be out! :(
