Over Taiwan. Bush Is gonna get us US citizens nuked. It\'s like he\'s provoking china. He was the FIRST president to OPENLY say "The US will defend Taiwan from Chinese invasion" And now China is even more pissed at us. He even sold Taiwan all this war stuff. But China doesn\'t have a navy... so they won\'t be able to get their troups over to the US if there is a big invasion. I envy all of you that live outside of the United states... Psychics have been predicting a big war with china. Is this it? This will prolly be another Vietnam

No what i\'m saying is that If US deploys ground troups in Taiwan and China, it could be another Vietnam. The US has one of the best armies in the world, but china has the biggest. Nukes aren\'t really the #1 concern I guess. I agree, mm. Look what happened to Japan after they bombed Perl Harbor

All I know is if China does go to war with the US, we are going to kick their @$$ so unbelievably bad. And if this will be a Vietam like war, and it last for more than four years, I bet I\'ll have to go. I have the worst luck.

Undoubtably, the US would emerge victorious over a Chinese foe, but to what end? To defend the single largest producer of all of our infomercial merchandise?
All joking aside though, I have supported Bush before, but his stance here makes no sense.
Why would he be the ONLY US president to flex so-called muscle over an area that no presidents have before? There has to be something larger that we are not witnessing.
No doubt about it, we would win. Sheer numbers means nothing. You need the skill and technology to win, and they have neither. Although we would get bloodied in the process. Very bloody.
Also, I mean no disrespect to Chinese people, its just a fact. The same can be said about Isreal\'s armed forces. We have more, but they would kick our rear ends, I\'m afraid. They just seem tougher.
And when it comes to the sack to use our weapons, the first part of your body to consider when gambling with lives, is your brain, and Bush ain\'t using his in this case.
Nothing happened when the Chinese took over Hong Kong (at least nothing that I have noticed), so that must tell you that China won\'t necessarily ruin everything needed to deal with Taiwan!

Umm dood it wasn\'t a hostile Takeover. China had signed an agreement were britan got to keep hong kong for 99 years. The liscense was up in 1997, and china got it back.

China is mainly opposed to the US giving Taiwan the Aegis defense system. The system is able to track over 100 independant planes, boats, subs, and missles. They feel that it would help Taiwan defend against a possible China invasion. The US did not want to back down from China and they also do not want to blatantly provoke them into battle so they gave Taiwan a couple of powerful yet slightly old battleships from the 70\'s and several other weapons that I can\'t remember at the moment. Taiwan did not receive a lot of the weapons that they wanted. Which should appease China for a while.
There are so many places where war is brewing and China is only a small threat. IMO, If we do go to war with China it will not be during GWB\'s tenure as US president. I predict 2006(Give or take a year).
The next war is probably going to be in columbia. Many people say that it is only a matter of time before the US sends troops down there to shut down the drug trade. The govt. and GWB knows that George Bush Sr\'s "War on Drugs" was completely inaffective and something has to be done. The main problem is that the terrain in Columbia is almost EXACTLY like Vietnam\'s and for some reason that scares a lot of people.
Just think about it. The American people care more about things affecting their own soil (directly) than they do about China bullying Taiwan. As we all know, Politicians tend to support what the majority of the people want in order to get re-elected.

No, No, Gohan. You did make alot of good points. But if Taiwan takes this as an advantage, and declares their independence, China will act. Bush "hopes" that Taiwan won\'t do this.

China will not invade Taiwan or attack the US. If they did so, their government would collapse and they know it. They narrowly averted a revolution 12 years ago, so I think the leadership in China has a very good idea of what\'s at stake. I\'m not arguing that we can take advantage of them or do anything we want; I\'m just saying that His Fraudulency\'s recent posturing with the Chinese will be proven to be relatively risk-free.

Taiwan has no advantage. They received a couple of battleships and some missles and they were taught how to use a cool computer system but they didn\'t receive the computer system(WTF????).
China\'s navy will still kick the living sh!t out of them. China considers taiwan a rogue state and is bidding their time before they can pull it back under their influence. The US is not likely to try and stop them and if the do, don\'t expect even the amount of troops sent to Bosnia.

Look, there seems to be a little rampant arrogance running around in this thread and I just want to set a few things straight.
1. If a war is fought between the US and China, you can be assured that the US will act within the UN\'s best interest and obtain the most assistance from other UN affiliated countries. UN = power.
2. China is NOT dumb enough to provoke the UN in any way. The US pulls a lot of weight with that organization and you can be assured that with the UN\'s help, China would essentially be fighting many countries rather then just the US.
3. People saying that the war will not be fought with nuclear weapons are correct. That is to say, it won\'t start out that way. Think of it this way, suppose for a second the US is about to be overrun finally by Chinese troops and planes and they begin bombing our cities. Our military is smashed, 90% of our defenses are wiped out and our cities are crumbling... what\'s the best way to assure that you won\'t lose the war? Make sure the other side isn\'t alive to enjoy their close victory. Birds fly and pass in the air and the two largest nations on Earth are reduced to smoldering rubble. The "nuetral countries" would be forced to face nuclear winter. I\'m glad I live within just 10 miles of a primary target. I will be spared the horror of survival.
4. World powers do not fight over islands. If they did, then we wouldn\'t have been able to purchase Alaska from Russia. I\'m not saying China can buy Taiwan, but I am saying that the matter will die down. For those of you thinking of Vietnam, think again. The US was the only world power involved there.
5. For those of you blaming President Bush for our nation\'s troubles, even those who think it\'s safe to criticize thanks to the fact that they are not goverened by him (you know who you are), it is not entirely his fault. The president has policies, but he has a whole entire cabinet of advisors telling him what\'s good and what\'s bad. Those people will not allow him to do something incredibally stupid enough as to threaten a massive global war between nations which could eliminate all life on Earth. Critisize all you want, but until you sit in that big chair in the oval office, you sure can\'t understand what it is he is trying to do. Walk 10 miles in another man\'s shoes or something...
As for the rest, in my personal opinion, war would result in no gain at all. Germany wanted to rule the world, as did Japan, but what motivation does China or the US have when it comes to a massive scale movement such as those imagined above? Nothing. American\'s have always thought, just as was apparent in the pre-bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the anti-war movements in the 70\'s, that war is unacceptable until it directly affects us as a nation. If Pearl Harbor would have never happened, the US would have never sent troops to Europe in the first place or bomb Japan in the "Dolittie Strike." Obviously, the US didn\'t give a flying sh*t about Vietnam, which is why so many people marched in so many cities claiming war was wrong. What happened when US troops returned from fighting in Vietnam? They were spit on and yelled at. The people love victories for a cause that suits the best interest of the world, but hate losses when it concerns small backwater countries that interest no one accept the invaders.
War will not happen and our world will do fine until we are destroyed through some means of massive natural disasters brought on by ourselves anyways. War is not something we should fear, we should fear self destruction through loss of natural resources. Cars need gas and homes need gas, but without gas, you have no heat and you have no cars. Without either, we\'re a species just waiting to die.

Milosevic was accused of atrocities aginst his people. The UN warned him several times and the felt it was time to take action. They bombed him to let him know they were serious and when his actions continued he was bombed again, Simple as that. Slick Willy just went with what the UN wanted. Legitamate or not the UN is going to defend HUMAN rights not GOVERNMENT rights.
BTW, As for the "puppet" UN, what do you feel about Big Business pulling GWB\'s strings? He is hardly an independant president(not many of them are) and he rarely has the US people\'s best interests in mind. That is unless those people are the heads of major Oil companies or the religious right.

I don\'t wanna say anything bad about any country. But you don\'t mess with the little guys. Taiwan, I mean, not chinese people :D (ok, bad joke)... USA has the strongest armed forces in the world, don\'t let anyone tell yuo otherwise. America spends far more on military than ANY other government establishment, and GWB is spending even more now.
America protects democratic countries. Taiwan IS it\'s own country, while for years, China has thought of it as a rogue province. that is obviously not the case, as they have traded with many countries, hd own government and such for years. And China knows if they invade Taiwan, they are as good as fuc*ed, because the good ole USA will step in a kick some ass with technology, diligence, freedom, and God on our side.
China will not invade Taiwan for that fact. USA will not attack China, and vice versa, and China will stillstay the same stubborn, commi bastards they have been!
