A Smashing E3
Nintendo to unveil its GameCube Super Smash Bros. 2 at the Electronics Entertainment Expo.
April 30, 2001
Leaks at Nintendo of America have verified that the company will officially unveil the HAL-developed GameCube sequel Super Smash Bros. 2 at the forthcoming Electronics Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, California. The game is scheduled to be on display at Nintendo\'s booth in playable form, according to sources.
Super Smash Bros., Nintendo 64\'s best fighter, stars all sorts of major Nintendo mascots including Link, Samus, Mario and Kirby, and pits them in battle across a series of polygonal levels. Despite using polygons, the game\'s mechanics simulate those of a traditional 2D fighter. The title\'s fast fights and intuitive control scored it an 8.5 out of 10 and an IGN.com Editors\' Choice Award.
The news is especially well received as it\'s a final validation that a long rumored Super Smash Bros. sequel for GameCube is indeed underway, and that the game is much further along than anyone could have previously suspected.
Unfortunately, we have been unable to discover details about the title, but we anticipate that it will literally be an extension of the Nintendo 64 offering, with probably more characters and arenas, as well as hugely improved visuals that more adequately represent the power of Nintendo\'s next-generation console. Developer HAL Laboratories may, in fact, have even upped the ante to allow for full freedom of movement in 3D this time around.
Full details will be known in little more than two weeks. In the meantime, you can safely assume this one will launch with the GameCube in the US this November.

Alriiiiiiiiiiight!!! The original was a blast to play, and this one will be even better!!!!

Smash Bros.?? I\'d rather buy the gay elf game than that crap.... So many good franchises expected for GC launch and this is big news? Pathetic....

I saw that game yesterday. What was it called again? Oh yeah "Faerie Prancing in the Land of Dropped Soap - Starring Ethugg"
-
Gohan, how right you are! That\'s great stuff!!
-
The original Smash Bros. ruled. This is reason enough to get a GC, for me anyway.
-
Swinky. I liked SSB quite a bit.

LOL, I love that game! Incase anyone was unclear, the \'gay elf game\' I referred to is Zelda.
-
I didnt think it was the greatest fighting game, it was worth a rent, but it wasnt worth $50-60 dollars. The end boss had to be the worse boss in history! I giant hand??!?!? WTF IS THAT?!?!?!?!

Jeez, It is almost impossible to get you angry. At least from what I have seen on the message boards.

I personally hated the first one. :) The gameplay was a little to "floaty" and slow. The music was awful (they could have at least made it better than the NES music! I know this won\'t be a problem with the NGC though. :)) The characters were unbalanced. There were too little moves per character, which is horrible when you\'re use to playing Tekken.
But I have to admit, there is a huge fanbase for this game. The easy-to-pick-up gameplay will make this a must buy for the newbies of this series too. SSB2 will make the NGC a lot more successful than without it.

It\'s impossible to get me angry, I just fight for fun. I\'m best described (religiously) as a Buddhist, so I\'m pretty centered. Or rather, think I\'m centered at least.

man i think ive played many a sleepless night withmy friends with that game, its so god@mn FUN!!!!! you just gotta love it, the controls are right on, hopefully one of my friends gets the gamecube, so we can have partys with all 3 systems, x box, GC and ps2! the ultimate in entertainment!

oh no! this is bad news, super smash bros iwas the worst fighting game that graced a console.
How would anyone want a sequel to that crap game?
give us KI3 , you hear me RAre, KI3!
-
yeah, I\'m in agreeance here. I\'m a huge fan of nintendo\'s franchises but I HATED the first game.... I don\'t know what it was but I really didn\'t like it at all. I don\'t consider it bad news though.... I\'m not going to buy the game, so it really has nothing to do with me. And as for KI3, i was never really a fan of KI either. I don\'t know why, but I just didn\'t like the way it played...
ah well, there\'s bound to be at least one fighter that I like :D
-
I personally thought the first as stupid and a big piece of crapola. But, it is Mario, so it is guranteed to sell..

Yes, we shall see. *chuckle* Tekken 4 on the NGC *chuckle* :)
I am going to keep an open mind though because I know anything can happen.

I can\'t wait either. I am very disappointed that VF4 will not be shown on the PS2, and now I\'m just hoping that either T4 or MK5 will be shown. A new Street Fighter would be cool too.
