Not the linux ones but the ones that dvelopment houses recieve. I heard Sony slashed the price to $10,000 to match MS\'s which is $10,000 I think is this true.
-
$16,000 is the PS2 Dev kit.
-
The DTL-10000 TOOL dev kits used to be yen2,000,000 (roughly $16,000 in USD) or $20,000 for US developers. They has been cut to yen1,000,000/$10,000 to match that of Xbox.

According to Sega they haven\'t lowered the price.
from core magazine (http://www.coremagazine.com/news/4151.php3);
"One of the main problems with the PlayStation 2 is the cost of development, especially Sony\'s kits which are 2 million yen ($16,500) each. As a result, many companies have 5-10 people using the same kit for their games. That\'s why there are so many B-class games on the PlayStation 2, it\'s terribly inefficient."
-
My God, I hope the price down soon... this way we´ve more games.
-
Sony wants everybodys money.
-
yeah does a dev kit let u make ur own games for the psx2 ?
-
Yep pretty much. Well to be exact, going from the PS1 dev kit, it will be a special playstation which can be hooked upto the PC and can run software which is programmed in C++. Least I think thats how it works.

Unless you know extensive C and quite abit of ASM, a developers kit is pretty pointless, beyond novelty value.

PS2 dev kit prices have been halved and royalties on PSX/PSOne games have been lowered, paving the way for cheaper games. Sega Smilebit started developing their games when the kits were 2 million yen while the Xbox kits were 1 million. Now the price of PS2 kits is the same as Xbox kits.
