Well im a Anime newbie so i\'d thought i\'d tell you what i\'ve seen in the order of which I liked best, the list is small.
Films
Perfect Blue (DVD)
Space Adventure Cobra
Series
Tenchi Universe
Batman of The Future
Dragon Ball Z
Please don\'t decide to flame me if you think something like batman of the future isn\'t a anime, remember im a newbie to the anime world. :)
-
I\'m an anime newbie too, but I\'ve been watching a few of them on the Action channel. So far, I like Ghost in the Shell, Black Magic 88, Macross Plus, Armitage III, GunSmith Cats, and Akira. You\'ll probably laugh at me, but I think Birdy the Mighty ain\'t half bad either. In fact, you might just want to check it out. It\'s director is the same guy who did Ninja Scroll, and it\'s writer is the guy who wrote Armitage III.

ghost in the shell,
the game was fun too......in a way
-
Like: Dragonball Z, Vampire Hunter D, Tekkeman, Street Fighter.
Dislike: Dragoball GT (it didn\'t last long plus there wasn\'t a lot of fighting till the end of the series) Outlaw Star, Big O.
-
Well of course the greatest of all time is FIST OF THE NORTH STAR the movie.
But I\'m really starting to like Big O
Tenchi and DBZ are great. Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll. Generator Gawl.
I just finished Bubblegum Crisis 2040 Tokyo and it rules. So does Nadesico.
Did you guys know that Vampire Hunter D is being remade is planned for a theatrical release all over the United States in September?
-
Hmm so many,.. In no particular order I really love these;
Princess Mononoke
Akira
Fist of the North Star
Golgo 13: The Professional
Samurai X
Perfect Blue
Street Fighter II (The Japanese version)
Ninja Scroll
The Tenchi series
Ah I can go on and on.

In theory Transformers is an anime.........
mine are:
Akira, Ghost in a shell, Dragon Ball Z,Tranzor Z, Big O (that is what it is called on Cartoon network), Vampire Hunter D, and the list goes on an on and on..........
BTW. Sonyfan.....I like your sig.......Dogma is a great movie!
Your friendly neighborhood scottyJ
-
favorites are Dragonball, dragonball z, and ninja scroll. akira, kenshin, and princess mononoke!!! :D
-
Well... I certainly see a lot of Vampire Hunter D in this thread... and I had never even heard about it.... I will have to see if I can rent it.. if it\'s good, then hopefully it will be released on DVD in September like Rob said!
KillaX - I\'m not sure if transformers is anime... it is animated, but.. well... er.. I guess it is. Along that type of show though, I sure used to like astroboy/thundercats/voltron :D.
-
Thanx Killax. Ya know, there\'s supposed to another Kevin Smith(?) movie comming out this year called SilentBob&Jay Strike Back. I heard Rufus and Bethany are supposed to make a comeback, along with a bunch of other characters from other Kevin Smith movies SB&J appeared in since this is the last movie in the "aviewaskew" universe.
Back on topic, no Transformers was not an Anime. I\'ve still got a few episodes on tape from when I was a kid. (War of the DinoBots saga), and the animation style isn\'t the same at all. I don\'t know what the technical classification is, but aside from giant transforming robots, there\'s nothing in it that looks or feels japaneese in origin.
BTW: Add Saber Rider and the Star Sherriffs to my list of favorite anime series. I loved that one when I was a young, and I didn\'t even realize it was anime until just a few months ago. Tekken the movie was pretty good too. I just wish they\'d have focused more on the whole cast of characters rather than just half of them. Or they should at least make a sequel showing what happened to King, Yoshimitsu, Lee, Paul, and all the others.
-
yep...knew about the movie.....and there is a special edition of Dogma coming out next month! Back to topic I saw Vampire hunter D back in 96 or 97 when cartoon network had attack of the killer vampires or something like that (they had a bunch of anime movies on).
end of line-----MCP

Quick question, if anyone has seen the SFII: V series, how are they?
Come on, I don\'t call myself Ryu for nothing. ;)
The V series is decent in that it provides plenty of action and content for the personal SF fan, but if you are a casual anime lover, I do not recommend it. The story is ok, but the characters are somewhat bland in my opinion and the humor is quite subtle. SOme of the animation is reused over and over again for fight scenes and that to me is just a sign of pure laziness. Stick with the movies and the SF: Zero animation for some of that classic Street Fighter goodness.

Transformers originates in Japan and it is an "anime" in every respect. I don\'t refer to anime as a "stylistic" form of animation, but rather as animation from Japan. Anime is the suffix for "Japanimation" anyways so it\'s only fitting that my definition is the best ;)

Currently I\'m watching the Trigun series. I got 6 of the DVD\'s so far hehe. I also saw the whole Cowboy Bebop series. It was awesome. I\'m a huge DBZ fan (obvious) and I like Sailor Moon no matter what people say. My other fav\'s are
Tenchi, Tenchi The movie, Tenchi the movie2
Ronin Warriors
Ghost in the Shell
Armatige III(not sure how it\'s spelled)
Dragon Half
Vampire Hunter D
Amazing Nurse Nanako(sucked just had to say that)
3 x 3 Eyes
Escaflowne Vol#1 so far.
My friend has a huge collection so I want to borrow some from him. He also has Akira. I\'ve never actually seen it even though I bought it for him so I guess I\'ll check it out. I\'m also gonna borrow Serial Experiments Lain cuz he said the story is weird like Silent Hill(meaning he didn\'t get it~not scary!)
-
The Emporer is correct in saying ONE of the best animes ever was FotNS. It blew my mind that cartoons could be that violent.
But, the best, hands down HAS to be Akira. Next comes Starblazers (still remember the theme song!), then, arguably Vampire Hunter D. It is a great one.
-
Really Ryu? I could have sworn that Transformers originated in America. I mean, none of the traditional Anime styles (Big Bright hair, big eyes, small facial appendages, over-exaggerated motions) were there AFAIK. Usually those are in every anime kids series, and only dropped for a more realistic look in films like Ghost in the Shell - and even then not often from what I\'ve seen.
Huh, well sorry.. my bad. So was Exo-Squad an anime too? If so, add that to my list of favorite Anime series.
-
If you look at Rick Hunter from Robotech and the young human boy (i dont remember his f*cking name) from transformers, the similarites are almost eerie. It\'s almost as if the only thing that really drove a hole between US animation and Japanese animation was the giant robot stylings of Robotech and the American\'s ability to re-use frames of animation for fight scenes to demonstrate their laziness to an art form.
Exo-squad is as American as they get :)
-
cant beat the classics:
- Ghost in the Shell
- Ninja Scroll
- Neon Genesis Evangelion
- Akira
Street Fighter was damn good too. Kicked the crap out of the Tekken anime, thats for sure.
Teknoman rocks the house as well.
-

Tenchi the movie 2

Dragon Ball Z
Perfect Blue
Ninja Scroll
Least Favorite:
Sailor Moon...although I don\'t really watch that show

Well here are some i like:
Ninja Scroll - and the sequels were fine too
Princess Mononoke
Dragon Ball Z
Tenchi
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Aramtige III
Perfect Blue - real good mystery anime
Final Fantasy: Crystals
Kimera
Fist of the North Star
Slayers
Sailor Moon
and the list goes on and on
-
GITS, Akira and Fist of the North Star are all absolute rubbish, all lack a decent story.
GITS is so over rated (much like the PS2), its got good animation, but they over did it a bit, the story is up **** creek and soundtrack has only one good song.
Fist of the North Star - I don\'t know how anyone could find this anime appealing.
Akira is much the same as GITS, good animation, crap soundtrack and an awful story.
It\'s so damn long and tedious.
Escaflowne (sub), Memories, Maison Ikkoku, Here is Greenwood, Outlaw Star (sub), Evangelion, DBZ (sub), anything by CLAMP, Card Captor Sakura (sub, not the trash American version) and Wings of Honneamise are all great animes.
The best movie would have to be A Girl in Gaea, Memories of Evangelion (Death/Rebirth, End of Evangelion Air/True to my heart).
All IMO of course.
