Tecmo knows whats up.....
Sure, DOA3 will be an X-Box exclusive, but the president of Tecmo Japan knows where his next-gen bread is buttered.
Speaking to Newsweek Japan, Tecmo\'s President Jinji Nakamura was speaking about the company\'s plans for X-Box in general and his comments come as a surprise in light of the company\'s recent decision to make Dead or Alive 3 an X-Box exclusive title.
The bottom line is, Nakamura still believes PS2 is the top console! He explained, "Under the current market conditions, we rank the PlayStation 2 as the most important platform for us, then GameCube, and lastly X-Box. For Microsoft, it all comes down to how many developers they can win over, and that remains to be seen."
From the context of his comments, it would appear Nakamura isn\'t considering Tecmo "won over" quite yet. Guess Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer have a harder time working their magic when English isn\'t their victims\' first language...
As for DOA3 being an X-Box exclusive, SonyWeb would like to remind readers that DOA2 was a Dreamcast "exclusive" as well. A few months later, Tecmo "tweaked" the game, changed the title, and DOA2: Hardcore appeared on PS2, so don\'t expect Tecmo to overlook PS2 for long with the popular fighting series. Props to Core Magazine for translating the quote and breaking the story.

1-Current market conditions only mean this year. Since PS2\'s been out since the beginning of the year, and XB is coming out in Oct/Nov, that\'s common sense, and is not a diss towards XB.
2-This is old news, and on top of that, has a PS2 sites spin on it.... not too big a deal...

I was pretty pissed when I heard that DOA3 was an XBOX Xclusive but hopefully it\'ll only be for a few months. I love DOA2:HC I play it almost every day and want part 3:(

DoA2 sucks IMO.
Maybe HC is better..
But i like Tekken much better

Maybe we\'ll see a better version of DOA3 on PS2 ? ...well...I don\'t know...but I\'m not interested on it....I Want Tekken 4 !!!

The fact remains that DoA3 was announced to be a XB exclusive. Regardless if you believe it will last, or it is temporary, those are just opinions. And outside of DoA3, I care were Deception 4 will show up.... until they announce Deception 4 exclusive to PS2, I give a rats ass....

In the April 25th, 2001 issue of Japanese Newsweek, an article talking about the upcoming system wars had a quote from Tecmo of Japan Vice President, Jinji Nakamura. This quote was terribly taken out of context, incorrectly stating that Tecmo felt the Xbox was the least important of the next generation consoles. Mr. Nakamura actually stated that the in the current Japanese gaming market, Japanese gamers found the PlayStation 2 was the most important platform, followed by the Game Cube, and then the Xbox. Here\'s an official statement from Tecmo\'s "PR Guy" George Ngo:
"It\'s a shame that in their hurry to break the news before the competition, some websites didn\'t bother to do any fact-checking or actual calling to the source. If they did, they\'d find out that the story about Mr. Nakamura involved a quote that was taken out of context in order to present a controversial news story. This is irresponsible and also known as libel. I commend the \'cooler heads at the few websites who bothered to do some fact-checking before posting."

I agree with E on this should be in the Console DEbating section, as it will become a debate on why the XBox is bein\' trashed or what not.
STill, I bet DOA3 does not stay exclusive for along amount of time. It makes more sense for Tecmo to call it "exclusive"--meaning around 6 months then release it on another system that will sell a ton of copies of the game.
THen gain, I don\'t really believe in third party game is "exlcusive" in the most strict of terms. There is always the chance it wil be ported. Just like at the once exlcusive Resident Evil: Code Veronica...

Actually, that\'s a bit misleading. While I agree that Tecmo would naturally focus more on the PS2 since it\'ll have been out about 1 & 1/2 buisness years in the states, and even longer in Japan, you forget that buisnesses don\'t hold the same calender that we do. From what I\'ve understood, the last quarter of the buisness year ends in March. So for Tecmo, the XBox will have roughly 5 to 6 months of life in their fiscal year. With a shorter life span and a still uncertain reception, it\'s a no-brainer that Tecmo (and most other companies) will regard the Xbox as not being a major player this fiscal year. (Nintnedo would still be considered as more important, since they already have a huge fanbase who will definately eat up the Cube at it\'s launch. That\'s like money in the bank.)
Next year, however... it could be a totally different story.

It\'s funny how a quote is reported to be taken out of context yet in order to clear the matter up no actual quote of the context is provided, only a quote from a PR rep, aka spin doctor. Right, now everything is clear

Nakamura is a clever man. Hes simply stating that gamers prefer PS2 in Japan. Well of course they do, the X-Box is forign, ala Atari, 3DO, Jaguar etc.
Im sure that in some way Nakamura did mean that Temco will concentrate more on the PS2 but when he seen his quote spread like wildfire he probably got his PR man to straighten things out so theres no risk of ruining relations with Microsoft.
Temco ain\'t a massive company compared to say Capcom and im sure that they will want to develop for all consoles. I recorn we will see DOA3 in some form and that Temco will probably concentrate more on the PS2.
Anyway I want Tekken 4. :D

Unless MS made Tecmo a 2nd party -- which they didn\'t--you can count on DOA3 being ported over. It does not make logical buisness sense for them to make a game exclusive forever, therefor cutting alot of sales. If they release it on the PS2 they are gurantee\'d a potenial certain user base of PS2 owners and out of that user base, they can guess how many will buy DOA3 based of DOA2:HC sales--which I imagine was fairly high (for some unknown reason).
Right now, DOA3 is just a matter of \'temp exlcusive\'. Tecmo announces it for the Xbox--they release, then probably within 6 months a PS2 enhanced / identical version will appear.
That is just my opinion.
On another note; he didn\'t trash the Xbox. He simply stated fact. There is a gurantee\'d user base with the PS2. Where as MS is up in the air, because they haven\'t proven to the Japanese market. That is not a diss, it is fact. MS has not proven anything to the Japanese market yet.
