I dont know how the rest of you think about this game, but i just find it like another capcom resident evil game killing monster samerai\'s mixed in with a little soul reaver
This game really didn\'t give me this hook to keep playing it.
-
Now, I don\'t know what kind of Crack you were smoking before you posted this but to me, Onimusha is one of the best games released on the PS2.
-
I haven\'t played it yet. I suppose thats what it is. :)
Im looking forward to getting it when its out in the UK though.
-
tell me one good unique quality thats good about it?
all i see onimusha to ME is good graphics thats about it
Instead of having claire from resident evil and a handgun killing zombies you got a samerai whats his name ( starts with an S ) and a sword killing samerai "zombies" and suck in there soul for health magic and upgradable points
Sorry but to me this game is crap and capcom screwed it up
-
"screwed it up?"
joe, please open yer mouth and remove yer foot
onimusha defers from the RE is SO many ways
if you dont like it, why did u buy it?
this isnt the official "joe\'s spot to b1tch about games"
that is all
-
......among the millions that loved it.
So, the general opinion is that it\'s an excellent game. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Though you may think Gran Turismo series suck too..... ;)
-
clyde i didnt buy it i just rented it
and gmanjoe just because i dont like a game that most people like doesnt mean im going to do it with all the games
Im actually looking forward to gran turismo and others like mgs and ffx
-
Sorry...it was in jest. I forgot the winking smiley! ;)
-
my friends and i rented that game and played it for about 7 hrs straight, its alot of fun...
i dont know what ur on............ but remember, when they come for you.. the men in white coats are youre friends...
-
Im entitled to hate the game if i want to :P
I just see it as Resident Evil mixed with Soul Reaver
heck even the walking is resident evil style and you cant even use analog
it doesnt work for that game
-
I couldn\'t care less if it was a complete clone of Resi, SR or everything else! It\'s samurai! I\'m in love with it already though I\'ve never played it.
-
I thought the game was great! The graphics and even the music scores were awesome!
This game gets an "A" from me. It would have been an "A+" but it was too damn short!! Arrgh!! Seems like Capcom is thinning out its stories!
RE took me forever to figure out. RE 2 and 3 don\'t really count \'cause I had strategy guides for \'em.
Also, this story had more of an "on rails" feel in which the story felt a little guided, with no real chance for deviation.
I have great hopes for Code: Veronica though.
I digress, Onimusha is a great game with superb graphics. If you didn\'t enjoy it, just wait for CV, it may endear itself to you a little more.
-
but whats wrong if its just another resi game ? just like iss pro is just a rip off of fifa ?
but everone has the right 2 express themselves lol
-
I haven´t played it yet, so I wait and see.
Why don´t you all do that until you have played it?

Well I didn\'t say anything, but I rented it a couple weeks ago and I thought the same thing.
You swing your sword a couple times, kill the guy then take his soul. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat...
Yawn....
I can\'t figure out why people like this game.
-
....just turn left and right and going fast.
Soul caliber is attack and kick, repeat.
Time Crisis is point and shoot, repeat.
But they all rock. Even Onimusha(which is attack, block, kick, impale, magic attack, arrows, run, side step and a short story with an open ending to go along with the game play) rocks!

I\'m with Gmanjoe on this one. In fact, he stole my defense :) that I was gonna use: Basically, that all games are now a series of moves that have not essentially changed since gaming moved from the days of Pong.
If its "driving" you are gonna find a car that zigs left and right by the movement of your joystick (or steering wheel controller). Speed is achieved by one button; braking by another. The scenery just "CoMeS ATTCHA" faster now and certainly much prettier than Pole Position\'s red, white, green, and blue colors were.
If its "fighting" you are gonna punch, block or kick. Heck, let\'s go for it and toss in a "throw" every once in a while. Has that formula changed much in videogaming? For cryin\' out loud, that\'s the same formula I enjoyed with "Rock \'em, Sock \'em, Robots!" And that was BEFORE videogames. But once again, the scenery just gets better. The character\'s animations get better. A story line gets offered. But the fighting is the fighting. You like the cosmetic improvements and the speed at which it is offered to you...or you don\'t.
Adventure games like RE? (and let\'s face it, RE didn\'t create this formula...maybe Alone in the Dark?). Even AITD however worked from a formula that was simply a graphical step up from games I played on my Commodore 64. My own imagination filled in the gaps when I played C-64 games.
Do I mind that developers now fill in the gaps for me? Well frankly no I don\'t. I realize its now coming down to getting the game as realistic as possible. Letting me BE there in the car, in the FPS, in the fight, and in the adventure.
Seen the trailer for the new Final Fantasy movie coming out this summer??? Is that the kind of gaming we want to *see* on our consoles some day? I\'d bet for most of us the answer is "yes". So is the story for that movie going to be much more or less than I might get from Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, or Red Planet, or ... or whatever sci-fi adventure comes along with its "good guys vs bad guys + fighting + more fighting + WHOOOYAH! = Good guys win" formula. And this is true of gaming too. The formula has already been mastered for the VERY most part. Because what we now do in games is generally what we do in real life. Since we have not really done much NEW in real life, there isn\'t much NEW that we should expect to "get to do" in videogames.
But again, do I mind this? Heck no! Do I revel in what consoles can push in bringing me into more and more realistic environments? Absolutely. Have I made a point? Probably not... :(

I didn\'t block crap.. I just hit the button to swing the sword and I went right through. Yawn.

same here, i liked it when i played it but i soon relised after that it pretty much sucked, repetitive as hell
-
I liked it, but not much replay value. Also, the game had a crappy ending IMO.
-
i love Onimusha soooooooo much!!! btw the ending was awesome, the graphics were incredible!!! the gameplay may seem repetitive but nonetheless it can be really challenging!!! And the story may be short but its a good one!!!
-
I think it\'s one of the very few titles that have justified my purchase of a PS2. But everyone\'s entitled to their opinion.
-
Onimusha is almost nothing like Resident Evil.
Where was the compliacted puzzles from RE?
Where was the ITEM BOX or box related like an ITEM BOX in Onimusha? NOne.
Where was the limit of things you could carry? None.
Where was the aspect of sometimes avoiding battle? None.
Really, all Onimusha has in common with RE was the Pre-Rendered backgrounds, CApcom logo, and the control scheme.
This is like saying Dino Crisis 2 was like Resident Evil. They are both completely different, only sharing the same control scheme and company name.
I will give you it could become repetive, but it wasn\'t anything like Resident Evil. Still, Capcom didn\'t screw up the game, \'cept for the lenght.
As the great Clyde would say (:D)...
"bah. silly humans."
-
I too found Onimusha to be a bit of a let down. I don\'t hate it, but I only played it for a few hours and then lost interest. I\'m sure I will finish it eventually, but right now I just don\'t have much of a desire to play it anymore. I wouldn\'t go so far to say that it is "utter crap" but it\'s far from amazing.
-
Onimishi ( what we call it in our student house) is fantastic, I didn\'t enjoy the orig. RE series although I own all of them. This must say something about the game!
-
"Where was the compliacted puzzles from RE?" - L-i-C
Complicated puzzles in RE? There were complicated puzzles in RE? Huh, I must have missed them because almost all of the puzzles I came across in RE were absolute no-brainers. Now Fear Effect.. that game had some head scratchers, expecially after you got to hell. Not to knock RE, it\'s still a great game, but IMO anyone who thought they were challenging needs to pick up some old-school adventures like Monkey Island 2, 11th Hour, or Legend of Kyrandia. Practice on those for awhile, and I\'m sure the next RE game will be a piece of zombie-brain splattered cake.
Onimushia, on the outside, looks like nothing but a cheap RE knockoff. But I haven\'t played the game, so my opinion means absolutely d*ck. My cuz just got a PS2, so we\'ll probly go out and rent it today and I\'ll be able to give a much better evaluation of it. Hopefully it\'ll be as fun as everyone says.
-
There aren\'t any complicated puzzles in onimusha either. They were so easy I left them to Stanley..

LOL, nice pic. :D
-
You are entitled to your own opinions, but I consider Onimusha a very good game. Moreover, it is not an RE clone. With Onimusha, movement and attack is fluid and rapid, once you get the hang of it. With B:CV, I had difficulty with movement and attack. So much so that I discontinued playing with this game. I am currently busy with AC2:AA and GT3.
