Are there any news about Project Y??
I saw a quote in PSM2 that said "This is the first true next generation game for PS2!"
Sound very nice. :)
Greg P Zesuchuk (MDK2) said this in an interview in PSM2!
”It’s still early days as far as PS2 is concerned. What do you think we can expect from the machine in the future?
I think it’ll have an amazing future – people haven’t even started scratching the surface of what it can do. Because it’s very complicated it’ll take a lot of energy and effort to reach it’s potntial.”
Hmmm "people haven’t even started scratching the surface of what it can do"
Then I cant imagine what Project Y will look like! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Aww..

yes, true, but remember all of these next gen systems have great potential.... ps2 just happens to be much more complex... mabye, ps2 once they figure out how to work it just right, it will be better lookin than x box,,,
but the opposite could also be true...
this is a great sign of great things to come this generation of gaming...
cool!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D

I doubt that. Certainly due to the the PS2\'s flexibility and the enourmously powered EE, it will probably do some effects better than the Xbox or GameCube.. however I just don\'t see the PS2\'s graphics ever looking as good as either of those two console\'s graphical apexes.

Xbox is based on an old architecture. There are NO secrets to be found in coding that beast. That said, you won\'t see a jump in graphical performance because all the tricks of coding have been known for YEARS (PC architecture). So with the Xbox it\'s, what you see at launch will be 80% of what you\'ll see 2 years later, IMO.
However, as is constantly brought up and harped on, the PS2\'s architecture is virtually unheard of. The dual sub processors (VU0, VU1) and the other very "unique" (read-pain in the ass) programming aspects will mean pretty average coding at first and near unbelievable preformance later on. We\'re looking at a 40-50% jump in game complexity (graphics), where the X will have maybe 20%
Technically the PS2 really is a damn monster. When the engines, and librarys are finally tweeked to form to the PS2 we will see next gen PS2 games that look better than Xbox, IMO.

I think the same CygnusXI ;)
For me better Graphics isn\'t only more detailed textures(look at standard PC games)
Personally I look at :
- 1 - The Detail of Characters and environments
- 2 - How the Characters move, look and interact with the others characters and the environment!(...animations,physics and AI,...)
(you can have the most detailed character of the planet but if he moves like a "marionette"and he is like a "collage" on a dead environment...the "Graphics" is only ****!!!
- 3 - A living,interactive,full of effects Environment(The EE Docet:D)
- 4 - Frame-rate!
- 5 - Sound
- 6 - Textures
I think PS2 is a Monster to do all these things! ...and Project Y will show the Power of the Emotion Engine!
And Graphics is all that...not only more detailed textures!!!!!

This project Y...is this the secret ND title?

Yeah!! Naughty Dog\'s Secret Creature! ;)

Since when is it called Project Y?
Ohh and,as CygnusXI said once they really start using the vector units we will really star to see good games. And when they start to really stream the textures instead of lowering the resolution and buffering them.
-
the PS2\'s architecture is virtually unheard of
Wrongo. There was another console that had vector units. This console was called the N64. Sure there are a lot of obvious differences but I\'m just saying PS2\'s architecture is not COMPLETELY unheard of.
I just wanted to point that out. Nothing personal.
Anyhoo, since Naughty Dog is developing this game then immediately I start thinking about their awesome games that they released on the PSX. Crash 2 and 3... ouch! Crash Team Racing... *coughatriousmariokartripoff*cough*. Crash Bash... *cough*Mariopartyripoff*cough*. I thnk NG is cool!

That\'s why I said VIRTUALLY, Jump......geez
Besides, there\'s more to architecture than vector units.

Well the biggest difference between the PS.2 and other computer hardware is that the PS.2 uses ynamic hardware, which means that data (textures etc..) is streamed, where the other consoles use static hardware where data is buffered.

I read a interview at IGN a while ago in which sombody from the XBOX team admitted that once the PS2 is figured out there really wont be much difference in graphics. That\'s a great testament to the PS2 that it could be 2 years older and still equall in power. not to mention more flexible.
