On the May 7th rumour section of the Nchronicles, the editors state that about 100 titles are currently planned for the GC, while 45 are already in development. Their source was IGNInsider, so can anyone who pays for the service verify if this is true??
-
Looking forward to the GC myself, I hope the news is true. As long as 50 of those games aren\'t Pokemon. :D

God I hope Gamecube games are cheap! not that $49.99 standard. That\'s expensive!!! Anyway count me in. nintendo makes the best games, and I\'ve always been a fan.
-
im sure there are more games in the making for the gamecube, but mabye it is 100, nintendo dosent like 3rd party companies.... :D
i bet there are more than 100 though, with x box having like 200 already, im sure there are about 150...
but hold on 12 days till e3...(which is what we are all waiting for, so we can yell aloud who will win these console warz!!)
:D:smokin::);):bounce:

I\'d tank Nintendo\'s walls if they allowed even one Pokemon title (although that\'s inevitable). 12 days to E3; I\'m praying that my 2 years of patience for Nintendo pays off with the Cube.

I\'ll bet the farm and say since Nintendo is so willing to sell GC at $200 that the games will be about $65
Nintendo needs to make their money somewhere
-
yeah ddayrl, i always wondered how nintendo would make up for the losses with their system, it is alot of new technology and stuff! i bet that what theyll sell for... too bad..
-
well here\'s a link to some GC info at insider
http://insider.ign.com/articles/57567p1.html
let me know if it gets you in or not and keep it quiet if it does work.
-
nope sure doesn\'t work - it wanted me to register
why don\'t you just cut and paste though - that should work
-
cause its 12 pages +
-
Post it anyway. Just post it in pieces.

Actually - and I won\'t offer anything to back this up, if you want proof, find it yourself - Nintendo is set to make a profit on each system, even with a 200 price tag. I don\'t know, chalk it up to no DVD player or something...
Regardless, I still wouldn\'t doubt it if the games were $60. While they won\'t be making up for any losses, one might say that "they\'s greedy bastards, ain\'t they?"
We\'ll see, hopefully they cut us some slack ... especially since with gas the way it is, it costs me the extra $20 just to drive to the store!

Once again, I agree with Ddaryl. If Nintendo launchs the system at a low price of $150-$200, they will have to charge more for the games. Take loss in hardware, jack up software price. That is just the way it goes.
Still, the GC digital media *should* cost $39.99-$49.99, something around there. But, I actually doubt it costs that.
-
Eiksirf already said it but I guess everyone skipped over his post. Nintendo can still make a profit if they sell it for $200. They made a lot of good business deals and they are using some cheap technology.
Just a little food for thought.

A few reasons why I think GC\'s price will be on par or cheaper than PS2\'s or X-Box\'s:
1. Mini-DVD\'s will cost less than an average DVD. Liscensing fees will only cost pennies this time around.
2. Nintendo\'s utilizing some of the cheapest materials out there for the GC hardware (the copper made
"Flipper," for one), while also excluding features that made/will make the other consoles expensive (DVD, CD player, etc.).
3. Peter Main has stated repeatedely that Nintendo is aiming for a "mass-market friendly" price for the GC.

Actually . Standard DVD\'s are made by many and the prices on them are competitive. Nintendo\'s Mini DVD\'s are proritized and have to be bought from Nintendo. More than likely these special Mini DVD\'s will cost a little more then the Standards
As for liscensing fees. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT only pennies. Money needs to be made Nintendo is no different from the rest here. GC games will probably sell $5 to $10 more then XBOX and PS2 games IMO.

Yes, but adding the capabilities to use the PS2 as a DVD player costs a few bucks at the most, and is probably so minute it it isn\'t worth mentioning at all. Same with the CD player, the capabilities are already on the machine adding the necessary drivers really isn\'t that much at all
Gamecube will sell cheaper but I don\'t believe at all that Nintendo won\'t be taking a hit on hardware.

Well aren\'t they all. N64 did the same thing

"Nintendo\'s proprietary Gamecube discs will not inflate the costs of development, and in fact the company has said that its licensing fees for third-parties are comparable, if not better than those of competitor Sony\'s for PlayStation 2. "

Every console has liscensing fees, as stated in the quote. I doubt that the price difference of Mini-DVD\'s wil be as drastic as it was with catridges and CD\'s. If it is, then Nintendo has been digging their own grave from the start. Also, this is just my assumption, but won\'t the smaller size of the Mini-DVD\'s have some impact on its manuafacturing costs?? (less plastic, cheaper??)

"In accordance with the DVD Forum (formerly DVD Consortium), an organization founded and maintained by major electronics manufacturers worldwide, any corporation wishing to release a DVD-branded device capable of playing DVD movies into the mass-market must pay a fee of approximately $20 per unit to the Forum. Therefore, Nintendo would have to pay $20 to the Forum for every Gamecube unit shipped—an amount of money that, it seems, is unacceptable. " - IGN FAQ
It\'s a little more than a few bucks. :) Also, if you look here (http://cube.ign.com/hardware/212.html), you can see that IGN expects a price between $150 and $200 for the GC, and I don\'t think they mention any losses in hardware profits.
Well aren\'t they all. N64 did the same thing

I wouldn\'t know, since I started gaming with the N64. But with rumours of GC games costing around $40 or $50, and the estimated price of the GC hardware, I\'d give Nintendo more credit this generation than many people gave the N64.
I guess we\'ll find out if this is all rubbish or not soon though. Only 7 days left till E3.

Prioritized does not mean expensive. They will of course be more expensive but the difference IMO will be negligable.

I will bet money against that. Seriously, GCN games will at most be around the same price as PS2 games. That is a fact that I am unable to prove at the moment but I will.

The ability to play DVDs on a console adds at least $20 dollars to the manufacturing of each unit. Why? Because there is a $20 dollar licensing fee to use the DVD Movie Playback capabilities. XBox not including it straight out of the box allows them to charge the licensing fee to the purchase of the remote and keep the price of the Xbox down a bit. I do not know how much the CD licensing fee is(If there is one at all).

You don\'t have to believe it but as you said, the hit is "probably so minute it isn\'t worth mentioning at all."

Mr. Yamauchi is a ruthless business man. He sets his eyes towards success, but he does so without ever uttering the words "taking a loss."
He wants success at system\'s launch followed by success afterward. He plans this out far in advance, as you suspect each company would have with millions of dollars involved.
His orders were probably like "make something better than the best... but cheap!"
That was his motto ever since the NES. They could have made the SNES then, but it would have cost like $400.
I guess if you want more proof to this than what IGN says, there it is in taking a look at Yamauchi\'s character. I seriously wonder how Nintendo will fair after his pending retirement. Hopefully Lincoln and Arakawa have picked up some of his traits.
As always... we\'ll see!
