Title: HERE THEY ARE: OFFICIAL GC PICS (Rogue Squadron 2) RUNNING ON GC!!!!!

The game is the focus of this month\'s Next-Gen!!!!

http://downloads.members.tripod.com/nexdx/pg4.jpg

And some of you said GC can\'t compete with PS2 and Xbox......hahahaha!!!! The game isn\'t even finished yet!!!

Since this means the Star Destroyer is made up of 130,000 polygons, we get 7,800,000 polygons at 60 frames per second....and it\'s all with 8 textures, it\'s all bump-mapped, with real-time lighting.

Seriously. You must have gotten the wrong forum buddy. Because we all love the gamecube here... They do look better than Starfighter, and I look forward to getting it!

Before this gets started let me point out that NextGen blows up their pics which very likely accounts for the jaggies in certain shots.  The article mentions the FSAA in running in the game (although what quality is hard to tell from these shots).

Oh yeah i do realize that they blow the shots up, they did it with perfect dark, and made the game look like SH!T!!!!( i didnt like that):D

Why wouldn\'t they be?  The hardware has been done for quite some time.  And the PS2 could not do that easily, we are talking 9.8 mpps on one ship alone... maybe in the future it will but for now that is a really cheap response since haven\'t seen this style of game on the PS2 come close to the level of detail shown throughout the RS: 2 shots.  Give some respect where it is due :)

Feels like E3 already. I think these pics are the most impressive out of the bunch:

The PS2 can\'t do this easily. It took almost a full year and then some of delays to get GT3 to look as good as it does.

On the other hand I EXPECT XBox to do better then this. If XBox cannot beat this out then MS is very much SCREWED !!!!!!!

ok mabye it cant do it easily, but i can do it... gt3 is the best looking console game out today... but thats not a good comparison, the others arent out yet(although the game still looks great)..
ps2 can do it, so can x box, but i doubt dreamcast can...:(
i think when they figure out how to use the ps2(as the devlopers say they have hardley scrached the surface of that black box), itwill become easier(like gt3 will be able to be made quicker) to develop games AND make them look better. sony has invested millions and spent about 4 years developing this thing.

P.S does anyone know the polygon count on gt3? iim just wondering..

Well if your like me or like alot of PS2 owners, don\'t you just get really tired of saying: when, you\'ll see, and just wait in regards to the visual quality of PS2 games.

I agree with you, but most of the PS2 games being shown so far haven\'t or don\'t come close to what we envisioned a year ago. Some do, but so many don\'t

On the other hand these Rogue Squandron screens look fantastic and represent my expectations of next gen graphics.

"Wait till the Developers figure out the hardware" is to PS2 as "It is not on final hardware" is to Xbox as "They have (whatever) but they are just being secretive" is to the GCN. ;)

Rogue Leader Revealed

Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2 unveiled in the new issue of NG and we have screenshots.

May 8, 2001

Our partners at NextGen Magazine recently took an exclusive look at LucasArts\' and Factor 5\'s upcoming Rogue Squadron sequel, Rogue Leader, in a 10-page feature article with first-ever screenshots. In response to its screenshots being scanned by readers and uploaded to the Internet, the publication has permitted us three screenshots and several mouthwatering details from its write-up on the anticipating GameCube action-shooter, which we have below. For the full scoop, you\'re advised to pick up the latest issue of the magazine, which is on sale now across America.
The following screenshots are scanned from NextGen Magazine. It should also be noted that they come from a build of Rogue Leader that is more than a month old and, as you can see, does not yet feature proper bump-mapping or advanced lighting effects, which developers LucasArts and Factor 5 have since then added.Still, bearing all of this in mind, we think you\'ll agree that the game looks spectacular, even at its early stage.

Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2, according to NextGen Magazine, follows the exploits of longtime franchise hero Luke Skywalker as he pilots through some of the most classic areas of the Star Wars trilogy, including the Death Star, Hoth, and an asteroid field to name just a few. The game continues with the arcade-esque control mechanics of the original Rogue Squadron, but takes them to a new level of interaction with the ability to command ship wingmen with the GameCube controller\'s D-Pad.

The title, which employs every graphical effect the GameCube is capable of, including fully bump-mapped worlds, full-scene anti-aliasing, advanced particle and lighting effects, and other goodies we can\'t yet write about, runs at a constant 60 frames per second.

IGNcube will of course have a major write-up of our own on the ambitious shooter in the not-too-distant future. But in the meantime, don\'t hesitate to pick up the latest issue of NextGen Magazine for the full scoop and a dozen more in-game images.

Everyone keeps saying that Waverace and Zelda are the best looking games in development for the GCN. If they look much better than that I will be very impressed. E3  is so close I can taste it......well not really taste it. Maybe smell it is a better coloquialism.

Wow, Nice FX. Looks like you Nintnedo fans will really be in for a treat when the cube launches this fall. I can\'t wait to see what else they have in store. However, I\'m not too excited about those pics. Not only do I (so far) not plan on buying the GC, but I\'m probably the only person in here who isn\'t a Star Wars nut.

Hopefully they\'ll show some even better pics of RE0 or Perfect Dark 2 soon!

ho3j - NextGen blowing up their pics would have nothing to do with the jaggies in this game. What you see is what you get on this.

If it were blown up, it wpuld be blurry, pixelated, etc. Jaggies come from games, not blow ups :)

Fair enough but any FSAA short of the best will leave some jaggies which my be negligable on a on TV but would become eye sores when fitted for a magazine resoluation and then blown up to what we are seeing on the web.  While the GCN could have some FSAA issues, these conditions are not ideal for trying to judge either way right now.

You must not read NextGen. They always blow up pics and make them look like crap. That is pretty much a given. Take a look at the Aug 00 issue and look at Madden. It looks like CRAP. Nothing like the game. Definately a problem with the screenshots. I have total confidence that there will be no jaggies in the game. At least not to the extent as what is shown in those pics.

This game is one kick ass one!!  I\'m now going to keep an eye on GameCube.  I can\'t belive how GameCube can handle this game with 60fps!  :D

This is my favorite pictures!

Obviously you did not get my point. These pics are obviously NOT blown up, or they would be pixelated and blurry. They are clear. The Jaggies are there, because they are there in that build of the game. NextGen does blow up their pics, but blown up pics don\'t add jaggies on pics.

The picture politepet post is clearly (the largest of the three) and and the images from page and 1 of the article are heavly pixilated.  (http://downloads.members.tripod.com/nexdx/pg1.jpg)  If you look at the edges of the lettering "Cover Story" and the the Star Destroyer you can see using low rez images and then blowing them up to fit the higher resolution of a magazine.   Again, the GCN may very well have FSAA issues but we need to wait for better images (the image i linked to suggests that FSAA is running but at something less than the best quality).

If they do not blow up pictures where do the incredibly disgusting jaggies come from that are in pretty much all of the large shots of all the games? Even when they did a review of all the PS2 launch games they had screenshots of the FINAL build. I have Madden and SSX and the jaggies are nowhere near as bad as they were in NextGen\'s screenshot. It has nothing to do with the "build" it is how NextGen formats and reformats the pics to fill up space on the page.

I will post a scan of what I am talking about later when I get home.

Can\'t wait to see what some real bump-mapping will make the game look like (some of the images make everything look too "smooth" or "plastic-like"... no worries though.)
