I was talking to friends, old nintendo fans..
They said they were gonna buy the xbox.
when I asked why, they said that the Xbox was gonna come out with hardware that would enable it to play PS2 games!
PS2 Games on the Xbox?! :sconf:
They\'ll ruin us! after I bought the failure Sega Saturn, I can\'t stand to have another ruined console!
Tell me it isn\'t true! will their be pirate hardware for the Xbox??
(DIE, bill gates, DIE :burn: )
-
no, it\'s not possible, I\'m not that much of a tech freak but I believe it has something to do with the fact that ps2\'s pipeline something is 46gig/sec while xbox\'s is only 5.6,
and there are lots of other reasons why it\'s not possible, believe you me, it will never happen
-
Hmm. Most likely an official emulator will never be released but with the HDD people will most likely be able to play not only PS2\'s, but pretty much every other system\'s games. :(
Don\'t fret though, cause with the expansion HDD people will most likely be able to do the same with the PS2.
-
I\'m not gonna get into a tech comparison here, but I\'ve heard alot of times PS2 hardware is even more ***** to emulate.
PS2 games on XBOX. no

i very highly doubt this will ever happen. this is typical rumored ****, that only uninformed idiots listen to and believe (no insult to youre friends:D)
-
oh lord oh lord oh lord...
there are different people saying different things...I\'m not a tech junkie,I don\'t know what to believe!
I\'m poor! I can\'t afford to buy another system! :crap:

Dude snap out of it
A PentiumIII 700MHz processor could NEVER EVER EMULATE a PS2 game. SOny\'s technology is just not capable of being emulated by todays PC hardware.
no Ignorant your friends are pretty much boneheads.
On the otherhand hating Xbox without actually playing it is equally foolish.
-
I never heard this before, but you never know. :D

I guess I never really thought about that. :(
Sorry. :crying:
please don\'t cry

Now look what you\'ve done ( hint, hint ..)
...made solid snake 88 crying
Poor guy , ahhh
cheer up dude.

yeah ive heard somewhere that the EE in the ps2 is about 4 times better than a 766 mhz pentium...
is that true?
-
Well, considering you need like a pII500+ to emulate the (??) 33mhz PSone, you probably can\'t emulate the PS2\'s far more complex emotion engine on a 750. I haven\'t seen a PS2 emulator yet that runs on the net.

It\'s been said alot of times
-
That is not possible. The PS.2\'s hardware is too different from the X-Box\'s normal x86 hardware.
The X-Box doesn\'t have the necessary memory bandwith nor does it have the vector units.
Those consoles a designed differently,MS chose conventonal hardware, and a known API,while Sony tried out something different (dynamic hardware instead of static hardware)
And Sony wouldn\'t be very happy if MS did that.
I believe it has something to do with the fact that ps2\'s pipeline something is 46gig/sec while xbox\'s is only 5.6,
Your confusing pipeline with bandwith.
The pipeline is basically how the data is processed.
For example a 4 stage pipeline would go something like this
Fetch-Store-Execute-Send
The deeper the pipeline is,the higher clock speeds the processor can reach. However the drawback of a deeper pipleline is that it takes more clock cycles to process the information so the high clock speeds aren\'t used like they would be on a processor with a lower pipeline.
(and I\'ve gone way off topic here so I\'ll stop :))

Grrrr.
Sillyness is really hard to portray on the net.

Well, what can I say.....
It also seems very hard to see the reply wasn\'t very
serious.
And if it were.... it was meant with positive intentions.
Let\'s just leave it at that ok?

PS2 has a 300mhz cpu that\'s completely dedicated, the Xbox has a P3-733 that\'s not dedicated. Xbox has the hardware to run an emulator from it\'s hdd, but not anything near powerful enough to run PS2 games at good speed. Remember, it has to run PS2\'s operating system too. XBox is WAY easier to program for than PS2, but that\'s only games. Emulators running off one system to run another equal system\'s full-out games is near impossible. Anyone run PowerPC on a MAC trying to run a PC\'s OS and the game? I have, on a 700mhz MAC and it\'s soo crappy, even Quake1 ran at only 5fps, nowhere near good enough to be called playable.
So don\'t worry, PS2 will be safe.

HEY, watch the insults. I may be ignorant, as MY NAME MAY SUGGEST (...) only becuase, well, I don\'t know my ass from my elbow ;)
There IS a VERY, VERY good reason for me to be so prejudiced against the X-box..
If it is good, I will not be able to buy it.
If it is TOO good, It will BURY PS2 like PSX buried the Sega saturn.
Therefore I\'m prejudiced, and I hate the Xbox. Hate it. wish it would die. (DIE, XBOX, DIE :burn: )
so, in fact, I *do* hate the Xbox for very excellent reasons. *is that really such a bad thing??*

Well that\'s because your on a RISC based machine emulating CISC based code.
The processors on Macs and PC\'s are very different.Read my previous post. The Mac\'s have a lower pipeline, while PC CPU\'s have a much deeper pipeline.
And the biggest difference is the micocode,Macs have a much newer more efficient microcode.
And PowerPC is just a nickname for the processor architecture that Macs use.
-
you use such big words...how do you ever expect us tech-ignorant fools to understand?? :D
so...It is 100% impossible for Xbox to play PS2 games?
great :) I feel so much better :smokin:
But..If the Xbox DOES come out with the hardware, somehow..
I\'ll burn this website :o
-
OF COURSE Id love the Xbox as a gift. But i spent my $ on my ps2 and i cant afford both, but i would definitly pick ps2 again. I mean it IS all about the games right? One thing Xbox will never have is the GT series. they might come up with an equivilant, but ya know. i mainly bought my ps2 for DVD and GT3. Other games are all just blessings.

X-Box will not EVER be able to play PSX games
it couldnt even emulate Dreamcast games
a machine needs to be about 4 times more powerful than the machine its emulating to be able to...well....emulate it
X-Box is not 4 times more powerful, PLUS PS2\'s architecture wouldnt allow any machine in the next few years to emulate it based on current PC standards...perhaps thats another reason why the EE was built the way it was
im worried about PC\'s emulating the X-Box...theres nothing to emulate, it already uses DirectX
-
X Box destroy the PS2 ?
Yes
but only if you drop VERY BIG and Heavy X Box onto your lovely Playstation 2 ;).
-
What about the possibilities of the DC being emulated on the PS2 when it gets its HDD? Is that just as impossible?
-

Ahh man, you stole my joke.

- the trick is to keep breathing.

Emulation is an insanely inefficient process. I am sure we will see Bleem of sorts to play PSX games if a company out there thinks there is a demand but, barring some unforeseen technology, you will never see the Xbox emu the PS2.

Sorry DM i had to say that......
or you could answer
Yes
Because if Microsoft cant beat them they buy them out, wonder if Bill has enough CASH to buy SONY ?
LOL

Yeah, X-box can play ps2 games b/c Bill Gates made this new deal with the devil:
Bill Gates owns the world, and Satan gets to f*ck him in the ass whenever he wants.
Which is disgusting. Why not just get a donkey like any normal person.
BTW, VOTE DONKEY RAPERS!
-
Ps2 hardware design is very different than another computer chips around. It is a full on media dedicated design. Kinda like have a pc that\'s upside down heh, well just a say here, don\'t blow anything at me heh cya

Yes it is impossible. There is actually things that the DC is better on than the PS2, so it would be totally impossible.

No it\'s not. I posted Xbox haters only! WARNING:Anything goes and I got b!tched at. So I guess I could say don\'t hate Gates hate the X-box.

i thought that thread would get alot of people in trouble... i decided not to waste my time posting in there, trying to correct people.. they closed anways.. saved me from trying to stop prople that want to kill microsoft for no reason....
-
emulating current genertaion onto current generation is impossible. May be, Ps3 and xbox 2 can emulate Dc, ps2 or Gc but in this generation consoles are not powerfull enough to do it.
If you want to play gran turismo 2 on bleem you need at least a p400 128 mb ram and a 16mb video card, even the the game runs slow. And this is for a machine which had a 25mhz CPU 2mb of ram and no other fany stuff.
Imagine what it would take to emulate a ps2 or DC?
-
Dreamcast emulation on the Xbox would not particulalry be a strenuous activity. In fact, one boldly assumes that it will be child\'s play. The two machines have very a compatible execution architechture and the adverse effect of differences in the object code should theoretically be minimal. [Remember, the XGPU and PowerVR2 are essentially PC parts.]
The story is not as bright when reffering to the PS2. Several inconsistencies between the hardware ensure just as many mindnumbing performance issues that would make direct emulation, impractical at best. However, that is not to say it will not be attempted. One blindly predicts that such a feat will be successfully accomplished on PC hardware, two years from now.

testing, testing.
I just wiped my entire system (virus).
wondering if this will work..
