I was reading an article on RS2 at MSNBC.com today while I came this stunning part.
RS2 makes great use of all of GameCube’s strengths, especially its controller. GameCube’s controller is the most sophisticated yet seen, with a digital direction-pad (D-pad), two thumb-pads, a four-button cluster and four shoulder buttons. And you use every single button to play RS2.
Four shoulder buttons? What the ****? Did Nintendo reallychange their controller design?
Here\'s what it looked like a spaceworld.

Will the new NGC controller look like this with an extra z-button to the left part of it? Maybe they\'ll put both of them beyind the NGC controller so you can use your index finger for the analog ones. Who knows. This just makes the 8 days till the big e3 show seem a little more harder...
Hold on a sec...
Then there are the shoulder buttons. The top right button accelerates your fighter, both lower buttons make you do barrel rolls, and the left shoulder button acts as a break.
So the analog buttons will be at the top...er...I\'m confused. This was unsuspected...
You guys should also the read the whole article, it was very interesting.

Sh!t, how can you read the article without a link? Here ya go.

Damn you for not supplying a link, I had to waste precious energy by going to MSNBC by myself... oh, and now you posted the link, right after I read the article, groovy :p
More buttons = more functions, which can\'t be bad. I hate it when the buttons on the controllers run out and you have to use inane combinations to survive (try playing Mortal Kombat with the lousy 3-button MegaDrive pad).
That GC controller looks a lot better to me than it did some while ago. Maybe because those pastel colours aren\'t there, hurting my eyes this time \'round.
And as for Rogue Squadron... Screw any Episode 1 crap (where\'s the magic gone... :(), if this game plays as swell as it looks, I\'ll be getting a GC just for this one. The old (er... new?) ships kick ass :D
-
I think they just got the PS2 controller and the NGC controller mixed up. ;)
The scan from Next Generation Mag that they have in this topic, http://194.47.16.181/forums/showthread.php?threadid=9287 show the controller and it looks just like that one above.
I don\'t think they changed it, but it could still be hidden in the back somewhere. (I hope not. I hate those hidden buttons like on the N64 and Dreamcast controllers.)
Next Generation also said in the side bar right by the picture, "The controller is far more form-fitting to the hand than the Dreamcast or N64 controller. It feels not unlike holding a PS2 controller and is easily as comfortable to hold." Looks like the PSX/PS2 had the best controller design afterall. :p
-
Good! I hope this is true. I always thought it was odd to not just throw in the other button.

Looks like you were right, Jumpman. Though I don\'t understand why Nintendo didn\'t have 4 shoulder buttons from the beginning.

The reason is is that people were already saying that it looked too much like the PS2 controller. :) If it has another shoulder button, it will be almost exactly like it. I\'m going to wait for some pictures though before I\'m convinced.

That\'s one ugly controller. Once again Nintendo has designed a controller for hobbits and six-fingered gnomes.

What the hell!!
You stold my picture Jumpman!!!
Thats my personalized Goku animation. What other names do you go by Jumpman.
Me = Iguana(dolphin) from the late NN.

I think the subject of the thread could\'ve been a little more creative
what the **** (read) doesn\'t exactly give me the impression we\'d be talking about the GC controller

Well... um...er....ya...so how are you? :D
I used the be Ganon at the late NN. I saw your pic and thought it was awesome so I stole it. But the one below my name isn\'t yours, this one is. :D

I guess I saved it under favorites. When my other pic stopped working I had to look for a new one and came across your old pic and decided to use it anyway.
I always knew I\'d get caught...

*sigh*
I miss the days of the old Snes controller, the last great controller Nintendo made.
Now all I can think about is..
1: Virtual boy controller...Argh!
2: Damn small little "camera" buttons on the N64.
3: How odd the GC controller looks. I hope it feels alot better then it looks.
-
well from what people are saying that have used it that it feels fine and is made well so i guess we will just have to see for ourselves - but dang i have my doubts as well
-
I still think the best controller ever is the Japanese Saturn 6 button controller included w/ the Japanese console and recent American consoles.

I used to love that controller too, but now I wouldn\'t be able to stand it. The PS2 controller is the bomb. :) I even have a PS2 controller connecter on my Dreamcast so I don\'t have to use their awful controller. :)

The ps2\'s controler is truly excellent. To be totally fair though, that new nintendo controller looks just like a PS2 controler. Switch the analog stick on the left to where the directional buttons are on the left, and you have a PS2 controller. The only difference, is the whole thing seems to be a little wider.
I\'m a little surprised that Nintendo isn\'t going with a more robust analog stick. They\'re staying with the one from the 64, and that one had all sorts of longevity problems... the yellow camara stick on the right looks more durable.

Actually, if you look at the picture closely, you\'ll see that the analog stick on the left has a ball, not a think one like the N64. So it\'s the same as the camera stick.
-
Damn.... it\'s soooo hard to tell.. I need a 45 degree angle shot. That stick on the left looks just like my N64 stick though, from above... I don\'t think it\'s different...
This thing looks just like a Dualshock2 though. It\'s a bit wider, and the stick/buttons on each side are further apart than a shock, but their almost identical. :) Good idea on Nintendo\'s part, cause the shock is truly \'comfortable\':). The N64 started the whole "fit your hand" control type, but I think the PSone took it to the next step.
-
I\'m pretty damn sure this controller will be confy as hell.It\'s designed for confort not for looks.
I\'m also sure the X-Box\'s controller will be confy.
And everybody knows that the PS.2\'s controller is very confy :)

Hey, you can\'t duplicate the best; you can only take it and plagiarize it.

Hehe, Jumper, you old fox you. Stealing someone else\'s pic. Tsk tsk tsk.
Actually the only difference I can see is that iguana\'s pic had more frames in it and thus looks alot smoother. Your one kinda jumps around a bit.

Yeah thats just because mm said it was too large and had too many frames so he had to change it. It\'s still the best looking pic though. ;)
You\'d be surprised to know who else has stolen a pic from someone at NN. SyxxKorn did it with that MegaMan pic and ViVi did it too with that small Vivi pic with him lighting a light. Those NN people HAD extremely awesome pics.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it doesn\'t look that good. ;)
It\'s too muddy/gritty/washed out.
