Ok. Now I know this topic has probably been beaten to death however I\'m confused. My God, I must say that I\'m very impressed with recent screenshots of Rogue Squadron 2 for GC. But I had no idea that the GC could manufacture such visuals. What else does GC have in store? I guess I\'m left asking the question, "How dey do dat?!" I wonder how easy (or hard) it would be for the PS2 or X-box to create these Rogue Squadron 2 visuals?

Its way to early to tell completely
but IMO What you see on GC at E3 will represent 80% of its true ant total power. There will be improvements but it will be small and steady for the rest of its life
Xbox is just getting its final kits so we won\'t know what to really expect till Late SUmmer early fall, and after release it too will show off 80% of its power in generation 1
The PS2 is just a huge mystery, simply because nobody truly knows. I think it will take 2-3 generation to get games up to 80% of its power and alot of dev\'s will just not be able to grasp it while others will excel beyond expectation
In the end all will have strengths and weaknesses all will have good and great games and all will be worthy purchases for those who want them.

Shouldn\'t the question be, "Once and for all, Which system is the most fun?" Besides, who cares what system is the most powerful if it\'s games don\'t intrest you?
Unfortunately, the answer to that question depends on personal taste. Sorry, no easy answers here.
-
The problem with your question is that they all have differences. How do you define power?
Mhz?
Polygons per sec?
Memory?
Textures?
Each console will win in some areas and lose in others, no one dominates the range of important criteria. If you try and make an "overall" rating for the system, you get into things way to complicated to figure out. Different types of RAM, ease of programming, effects, output to screen quality .... to much stuff to make an "overall" judgement.
Power at this point doesn\'t even matter that much. These consoles are all capable of producing graphically spectacular games. It will come down to gameplay, stories, characters, and so forth with this generation.

i too am impressed with the new Rogue Squadron 2 pics (over any competing Xbox game pics at this time) but i still see that it can be done on all next gen consoles. so like most here have said,no one knows for sure and the definition "most powerful" is unclear, and to add to the scenario, power isn\'t everything...sometimes it\'s just the developer or the type of games you prefer on a selective system. others like brands, familar names, etc. personally from my opinion, going by spec\'s,X-box seems to be most powerful, but also seems less innovative of the 3 systems.

Hmmmm? Nothing against the GC (it\'s gonna be awesome), but I really don\'t see where the GC is more innovative than the XBox!!!

I agree Yassam, but come on people who really cares what console is more powerful, etc.etc....
There is plenty of games to go around on each system, so ENJOY, have fun, it\'s all good.

The most powerful system is without a doubt my 5 year old PC

The % figures ddaryl ballparks are naturally bound to bounce around but his view of where things stand IMO is extremely solid and well stated. So early in the game and so close to E3, trying to go further on the merry go round seems even more pointless than usual.

The most powerful console is PS2, not the specs, but it has something that is equally or greater than specs, it´s the name Playstation, this is one powerful thing that can´t be denied.
If Sony wins the war, they will do it because of the name playstation. I wounder what name is most powerful, MC´donalds or Playstation?

If I changed my name to Thor or Magnus would I be more powerful than the PS2? I hope so cuz I am off to change it right now.

The Playstation brand is strong indeed, but the
McDonald\'s brand is stronger to ppl who love fastfood.
Also don\'t underestimate the Nintendo brand which stands for Mario, Donkey Kong, Pokemon etc.. They appeal to huge younger audience.
As for PS2 technically being a huge mystery like DDaryl
said, it makes it sound like a bit of gamble.

oh yeah, 2-3 generations until ps2 will be at 80% of power? whhaaaahoooooooO!!!!!!! (gt3 looks great right now.... but it took them awhile to make the game, i think they had gotten a good grip on the systtem to do do that..)

Yeah and, your point. I might as well say XBOX is using the most power and innovated GPU in the world, which it is. yadaa, yadaa, yadaa Who cares.
Buy what ever console fancy\'s your taste.
-
iwas just trying to clarify that the gamecube is technologically on par with the other consoles..
by having this "new" ram, it can perform better...
its innovative, thats the point.
p.s or you can buy them all;)
-
Ok...Agreed.

i didn\'t say X-box is less innovative,i said it "seems" to be less innovative (from the total sum of all parts that make it),\'bout the only thing i see X-box having true innovation is from Nvdia (maybe they should of named it the Nv Box? :) ),everything else seems standard fare mostly...whereas GC looks to have more customized parts

Hehe... well yes I suppose thats true sicnce basicly everything inside the box was made by nVidia. They make the soundcard, the mobo, and the GPU.
-
Good point, yoo show me a sound card out there in the market that can compete with NVIDIA\'s MCXP and i\'ll listen. It\'s alsp been said that NVIDIA might get into the PC sound card business.
Anyhow innovation on the XBOX here are a few things.
GPU
SoundProcessor(DD)

or and that fact that MS was the first to make the HD part of the system. That changes alot of things. With the HD they do can do things with games that others consoles cannot. The HD will enhance the gamers experience, and from what I see thiswas one hell of an innvovated idea. Some times innvoation can be the simplest things.
Cheers ALL!!!!

I think it is not just the inclusion of the HD but how they plan to use it (hopefully we will learn a lot more at E3). I think many people assume it is just like a HD in a computer and do not realise how bad that would be and how many problems MS had to deal with when deciding just how much control the end-user should have.
