(This is meant for fun so if you respond with rage when someone raises questions about your console of question please move along. All console have their strength and weaknesses.)
Here are the shots from Madden NFL 2002.

and here is the quote

"Update: EA has confirmed these are GameCube shots, so the PS2 version should be even better.
"
Okay, first off I think we can all agree that those shots are not on par with what we expect from any next-gen game. The PS2 can do better, the Xbox can do better, and, if Rouge Squadron is any indication, the GCN can do better.
So what does this mean?
Is this just one of EA\'s lazier titles? Is the GCN harder to develope for than we have been told? Is PS2.IGN right in their assumption that the game will look better on the PS2?
This board has a lot of hardcore Nintendo fans who can correct me if I am wrong or clarify this but I seem to remember Silicon Knights mentioning that what they had shown at SpaceWorld was old at the time and they had since added realtime lighting. I also remember FSAA being implemented. Now that much more of the game has been shown we are hearing that what we have seen in old and that they have since added realtime lighting. Oddly, there was no FSAA apparent in the very clear shots posted by Lucas Arts. Does this suggest that the GCN isn\'t as easy to develop for as once suggested and why was FSAA around from the very beginning but suddenly vanish?
It certainly makes me wonder. But at the same time, if the GCN was hard to develop for then why start on it? Why not make the game on the PS2 or Xbox since once the first is done they will just port to the rest? Does this mean that they expect to get the best results out of the GCN and then scale down the program for the other system or are they just going with the lowest common denominate?

You think too much.

What\'s a GCN? A GameCube Nintendo? Shouldn\'t it be NGC?
As for the game, I don\'t care, I hate Madden anyways....

Whether those Madden shots were for PS2/GC/ or Xbox... I think they look the same as last year\'s Madden. I expected much more from EA this year, so I hope it improves.
Though they could have pulled a VC and overhauled the gameplay while focusing on graphics later.

On another note;
Update: EA has confirmed these are GameCube shots, so the PS2 version should be even better.
Perhaps they said that because EA already learned to work w/the PS2 hardware, and having done an excellent job w/Madden last year, they should be able to crank something even better this year. (Graphically anyway / gameplay is arguable - though I liked it)

I\'ve always believed that\'s better than thinking too little.

i heard somewhere that the gamecube is actually harder to develop for..... mabye this is some evidence....
EA needs to get its @$$ in gear....... those suck..... how do they expect GC to compete... im sure its just EA, those early rogue squadron shots prove it..

I don\'t think you guys should be taking ps2.ign\'s word for it on a GC game. Of course they won\'t admit if the PS2 version won\'t look better.

There was something about NGC being registered already. It was during that whole "GAMECUBE, GameCube or Gamecube" debacle that Nintendo seemed so concerned over.

yea but NGC is just an abbreviation people use to talk about the gamecube - its not officially called NGC or anything so that shouldn\'t matter

GCN is the official abbreviation, but I personally don\'t think it matters in the least..

I call it the NGC. I hate how people refer to it as GCN

I still prefer the name "Dolphin". I think Nintnedo should have stuck with that since the name has a lot more personality and flair than just... GameCube. Sega has always had the best console names.. Master System, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast. I think all the the major console makers left need to take a page out of Sega\'s book. (Just not out of the chapter on marketing. ;) )
Honestly, I think the Madden shots should look better than what\'s been shown. However, given that the NGC\'s final dev kits full of new hardware haven\'t even been delivered to EA yet I suppose some leeway is in order. No matter how easy a console is to program for, the first year of ACTUAL programming is still rough since a full cataloge of knowlage and experience on the system hasn\'t been compiled yet. Barring the GeForce3, the Xbox shouldn\'t have nearly the learning curve that any previous competing consoles had. After all, programmers are using tools that have been tried and tested (DirectX) on a very VERY well known archetecture (x86). That\'s why I\'m a bit disappointed in the Xbox\'s graphics. Full devs or not, if the Xbox is 3 times as powerful as the PS2 (as Microsoft says), and it\'s games are only running at 50% of it\'s full potential right now (as it\'s defenders say).. they why do it\'s games look only marginally better than a console that\'s 1/3rd as powerful and has only been roughly running at 20 to 40% potential max?
It\'s games look pretty good.. I\'ll give you that. But so far nowhere near as good as the hype (remember that word?) would have suggested. I can\'t wait till E3.

I think the old Madden looks better.
But thats just my opinion.
