yes my friends.... my PS2 has been haveing quite a bit of trouble reading disks....
i hve had my PS2 in vertical position since Oct.26 and it has worked flawlessly until now... just a couple of weeks ago my ps2 has been having trouble reading the disks, i have been keeping my PS2 clean and dust free since i got it, i bought MGS today and i was so happy that i got it, but to my dismay it coudlnt read the disk, it was previously played one so im gonna return it caus eit may just be defective, my PS2 can still read games but now it does it rarely now, i heard ticking noises coing out from the console.
i called Sony and they told me everything i knew, they said i shouldnt use the game link 300 s video cords cause they are not licenced and can mess up my PS2... BS, she was very nice though and she tried to help me for about 1 hour but tono avail.
in the end my PS2 cannot read disks anymore.
could it be cause of that rumor that the PS2 when it was released, the lenses weres shoty?
EDIT: i am sending my PS2 first thing tomorrow morning!
so i will be renting a PS2 from blockbustr while mine is in the shop :), guess htta means i will be able to review RF
-
man that sucks @$$.... i think i may put my ps2 out of the vert position... it it seeming bad for it....(from all the news...
im sorry to hear that man.. its too bad they had to shove systems out of production...
-
When i got my ps2 in january a local store owner told me to keep in horizontal because of the 9 ps2 returns he had 8 were set vertical i didnt want to risk killing my ps2
-
yeesh
is it just PSX game s it has trouble with, or PS2?

YESSSS... the same thing happened to me... It really sucks, and I feel for you.
-
I had mine replaced next day when this happened to me!
-
No way this happen! I hope your PS2 holds together until GT3 comes. I have my PS2 horizontal since Oct. 26. Nothing wrong yet. :D
-
thats what happened to one of my PSXs before it broke, take it outta vertical quick!
maybe you outta try the ole NES trick, blow inside it and hit the top of it til it works.

I recently ripped of the tag on the back of the console....... so I\'m a little scared...... can I still get repairs on mine if it ever breaks? I know I can\'t return it anymore, and get my money back.....

Based on your listed "Location" [of residence], Unknown, be sure to get out of your PS2\'s expansion bay before you turn the PS2 in to have some maintenance done on it!!!
Then again, are you sure maybe while you were millin\' about inside the expansion port, you might not have spilled some breakfast cereal, or morning coffee or something and caused the trouble? Or perhaps tossing your socks and/or underwear carelessly about while living inside there, perhaps some lint has plugged something up??? ;)

well did they replace you lens or did they just fix it? also when they returned it, did they send it with a letter about what they fixed and what was the problem??
I hope they really do a good job repairing my PS2, how long did it take you to get it back???

PS2s ARE PUT TOGETHER LIKE SH|T
For me it was DVDs back in January. That sucks ass that it happens now and is just another reason Sony should\'ve provided a longer warranty.
My experience with Sony and their tech support is horrible, and I hope they treat you better than they did me. Good Luck, dude, but if I were you I\'d send the thing off now. The longer you wait, the longer it\'s going to take for them to get it back to you.

Wow.. I\'m surprised by everyone having so much trouble with their PS2\'s. From my experience, Sony has made nothing but top notch hardware. I\'ve had my PSX since a year after it\'s launch and I\'ve had almost no troubles with it at all. Granted, I have to set it vertically to get the games to run (Lay it down on it\'s top or bottom and it\'ll die faster than Tony Danza\'s career).. but if you\'ve seen the kinda torture I\'ve put this machine through you\'d understand why it\'s a miracle that it\'s still running. I\'ve had cartridge based machines (GameGear, GameBoy, NES, Genesis) that I\'ve taken extreemly good care of break in half the time.
My cuz\'s and all my friend\'s PSX\'s & PS2\'s are exactly the same way. Takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. Maybe we just got really lucky?
-
Well, I\'ve had zero probs with my PS2 - I quess I\'m quite lucky then. But I\'ve never kept it vertical - it\'s always horizontal.
Glad that you can take it positively, unknown - don\'t get depressed, as you still can loan a ps2 from somebody/somewhere :)
And, perhaps you\'ll get yourself a new ps2!
Welp, my hopes are that you\'ll get your ps2 back as soon as possible!

Knock on wood... just incase...

i think the majority of ps2\'s are actually in great working order. just like 10% had minor or major problems...
it still sucks, they should have increased the warranty for this reason.
IMGONNA GO TAKE MINE OUTTA VERT RIGHT NOW!!!:D

i have had to call this number several times already and it is now embeded in the back of my head, here it is:
1-800-345-SONY
its all good, now i have it packaged up with the money order and letter inside, ready to go :)

The PS2 is supposed to play vertically OR horizontally and if it doesn\'t then your PS2 is defective. It may run perfectly in one position but not at all in another. That\'s still a bad box. And 10% defective rate is very bad.
10% of 1 million units sold is 100,000 defective units.
Some problems are minor and some are major, but the PS2 is put together very poorly.
-
wow, you don\'t think Sony\'s quality went out the window long ago do you?
I had trouble with their products way before the PS2 was even out. I had 5 disc changers, that were expensive that I had to return 3 times!

you do have a point there rob, my PS2 was able to play vetical & horizontal because i had my PS2 horizontal for a little while after i got it, so iknow that wasn\'t the problem but if anyone else can only play it in 1 postition then you may just have a bad box, or even a PS2 that has very little trouble reading disk may be a bad box starting to show its evil side, im just saying this because look how long it took for my PS2 to actually bite the dust, and it never had trouble reading disks before that, by the time i sent it it wouldnt read ANY DISK!
UPDATE:
well just so everyone know it\'s just sent today :) so my PS2 has embarked on it\'s voyage , i just hope it gets to its destination safely :)

Did you play only the demo version or something more?
-

well ign recieved the game early and htye said it plays at a locked down 30 FPS, wich is better than nothing, but im pretty certain there will probably be a little slowdown in really intense fights and blow ups, thats about it

UPDATE:
her is a brief update no ym situation so far, well this is my second day without my PS2 :), boy was it a pain in the ass to ship, i was supposed to send it to SSC Irvin but the zip code they gave me kept saying Costa Mesa on the PC! so i couldnt send it in to that address, i had 1/2 an hour to send it in or i would have to wait another day!, so i called sony and they gave me the address to the Northern california SSC in fremont, so i had to send it in there, they told me i wouldnt have to wait any longer than if it was sent to Irvin so im happy about that, i just hope i gets to the real destination, im gonna call sony in a few days and see if it got to its destination, and what is the status of it :)
-
What carrier did you use and did you get it insured?
I know it sucks ass, but after you get it back, you\'ll have another 90 days, so keep an eye on it.
I went through hell with mine but after I got it back it\'s been perfect.
