Title: Sega gives PS2 scraps.
Post by: RichG on May 20, 2001, 07:41:04 AM
Don\'t you all think that the PS2 has drawn the short straw in terms of the Sega "lets all develop for all consoles" attitude?

I mean PS2 has the following games coming its way.

Crazy Taxi - No improvement over DC.
18 Wheeler - Come on that ain\'t going to be great.
Zombie Revenge - Average Game.
Virtua Fighter 4 - It turned naff at 3, most people will buy Tekken 4.

Gamecube

Phantasy Star Online - Nuff Said would swap that one game for all 4 of the above.

X-Box

Jet Grind Radio Future - Again I would swap this for all 4 of the above.

GBA

Chu Chu Rocket - Pretty fun game.
Sonic game - Again would swap all of the above PS2 titles.

Its like Sega want to develop for all machines but they are developing decent games for all consoles accept PS2 where there just doing some port overs of old, and worst of all average dreamcast titles, that includes Virtua Fighter, as VF3 is poor - but VF1 / 2 were good on the saturn but thats not DC.

I think Phantasy Star ONline is coming out on PS2 later this year.

Correct me if I\'m wrong, but the NGC doesn\'t have online plans.  The NGC can have it\'s four-player split-screen PSO. :)  I have never been interested in Jet Grind Radio, and probably wouldn\'t buy it even if it came onto the PS2.

The only two games I really want from Sega are VF4 and a new Sonic.  It\'s getting one of those, so I\'m happy. :)

The answer for any true Sega fan is simple.

Buy all consoles.

Virtua Fighter went down on no. 3? are you nuts, you must be out of your skull. Because Sega is still innovating, but all I saw from Namco was the same old Tekken with slightly better graphics and more secret characters. Gimme a break, learn about the greatest fighting series ever before sputing out stupid crap like that.

PSO is great, but worn out. Acclaim is did Crazy Taxi and Zombie Revenge, not Sega. 18 Wheeler is a fun game, you just gotta let go of the fact that you are driving a big rig.

Besides, PS2 is also getting Space CHannel 5:2 and K-Project which will make use of a propietary controller.

I heard alittle while ago that sega is developing more games for ps2,i think headhunter might be going to ps2 also 355,and ecco.
Dont right off sega they want to make money, and also hurt companys like EA,who dissed them,i think they will produce the good for PS2,just give it some time.

Nope just my opinions.

I hated Tekken when playing both Virtua Fighter 1 and 2. So I definatly understand the series. However Virtua Fighter 2 was a bit of a shock when only two new characters were added. It turned out OK in the end as the series really had been improved. Then virtua fighter 3, one new character, not many more moves and just better graphics. It felt more like a update.

Anyway it would be nice for you to show a little repect towards my opinions. After all i\'ve never called you "nuts", "out of your skull" and claimed that your "sputing out stupid crap". When you can\'t even have a discussion without trying to get across your point with belittling phrases, it just makes your opinion seem all the more ill informed and worthless.

As for the other games, I wouldn\'t really know I ain\'t played any of them except crazy taxi. PSO should be decent, but 18 Wheeler, a truckers game, I can\'t see that being worth £40. Space channel 5 is just dumb.

Anyway before you decide to blurt off another posts worth of well thought up phrases please remember they are just my opinions.

X-Box and Nintendo (both GBA and NGC) do seem to be getting the better Sega games.

All of those att this point are rumors. I say this not diss PS2\'s support by Sega, but it\'s not nice to have less knowledgable people skim what you said, and expect those games.

That\'s funny, I don\'t remeber seeing any "better graphics" or "more secret characters."  All I\'ve seen are character portraits of some of the players that will be in the game.  Maybe I missed something, or maybe you are just sticking up for your precious VF series by making Tekken 4 look bad. (Don\'t get me wrong though, I want VF4 too.)

Ethugg i got this info from the OFFICAL PS2 MAG here in the uk,it has the biggest reader base of any magazine here,so i think that my little post isnt,as bad as all the readers reading it from an offical mag,and you shouldnt skim, you should take your time.

Also in i thread i used the words "heard"and "might"if you get confirmed from these words then, there is something wrong with you.

The way gaming news takes its turns im holding my breath. Although even with these rumoured games its not much better. Echo got average reviews, headhunter looks quite good, erm whats 355 ? Is that the racing game with Ferari\'s (SP?) ?

Just one thing;

Grandia 2 isn\'t a SEGA game.

RichGUK, sorry bout that. There are some things some people will never understand about me. 1) My undeniable love for all things Virtua Fighter, and 2) that 3rd leg growing between my other two.

Virtua Fighter 3 only had one new character. Big Deal. It had varying enviroments that including height changes that would make you change your fighting style depending on where you were and where your opponenet was. It also added in the dodge button which added about 500 combos to a game with already around a couple thosand (no joke, I have a faq for Shun Di that is 28 pages long of just moves) Virtua Fighter 4 will have eroding enviroments that effect what does on in the game. I just dont see how you can be looking forwartd to a new Tekken while totally avoiding another groundbreaking title from Sega.

The reason VF doesnt add a bunch of characters and has no secret characters is that it takes years to master a character, having ten or so characters is more than enough to be effecient with any of them, but there are more than 10 and they are adding 2 more characters, just for you.

Play 18 Wheeler, it is quite a fun game, maybe not worth 40 bucks, but worth the Sega name.

IronFist - i was not refering to Tekken 4, although I would be surprised if they added anything of worth to the already tired series. I was talking of Tekken 3, I dont remember any major style changing enviroments in it or anything else really new about 1 to 3.

Tekken has changed a lot more than you think becuase you don\'t prefer it and thats fine

but Tekken is based towards mainstream gamers - while VF is based to the Hardcore - no mainstream player wants to play a game for years to master it

but i Tekken has had many changes - there are a lot of things that Tekken started off having that made it great and didn\'t need to have held back to make the next sequel look better - Tekken has had many new characters/moves/cool music/and altogether is a great package and the only thing that is missing to it is depth in the gameplay - if it had this then it would be an awesome game

The US mag did too... so that makes it ok to continue using rumors to say Sega isn\'t supporting XB more? No, it isn\'t.

Let me correct you by saying that you are wrong.

Nintendo has not released any info on its online plans. That doesn\'t meant that it has no plans. Remember, Nintendo is very secretive about itself.

The NGC has an adapter port on the bottom to connect to a broadband adapter or a modem.  That in itself shows that Nintendo plans to offer online capabilities to the NGC.

Silence doesn\'t equal denial.

Look this is a thread about sega\'s support to ps2 Ethugg,i was saying what the rumours were from the offical mag, just to let RichGUK that there could be a few title going on,that he didnt know about, and i am not saying that they have been confirmed,THEY ARE JUST RUMOURS AT THE MOMENT.

They added characters.Great. Along with new characters comes new moves, so that is a given. And for new characters come new stages, which add new music. Whoopee. That adds exactly 0 more playability than the previous title.

Thank you for proving my point. The only updates in the 3D fighter realm come from Namco.

VF 3 has 2 new characters, right? Aoi and Takarashi.

If you were disappointed w/ VF adding only 2 new characters, why were you not disappointed w/ Namco adding only 2 new characters for Tekken 3? Xiaoyu and Eddy. As I said in a previous rant, Namco inflates the character count and may fool you into believing there are actually more new characters but it\'s just new name, new look, almost exactly the same controls.

By the way, what do you expect Sega to give Sony when they\'re the primary reason for the impending death of the DC?

Title: Sega gives PS2 scraps.
Post by: RichG on May 21, 2001, 10:08:27 AM
Sony the reason for the Death of the dreamcast, one of them but definatly not the primary one.

What was Sony ment to do, not produce good consoles incase the Dreamcast suffered.

Also how about these for reasons for the death of the dreamcast ?

1) Segas bad record with previous hardware put people off, this hardware includes Sega Saturn, Mega CD etc.

2) The fact that there marketing was really poor. I don\'t know about the states but in the UK Sega haven\'t really marked a console since the megadrive (that\'s genesis for most of you :)) days.

3) They never seem to purchase rights to games. They lost Tomb Raider and Resident Evil in the Saturn days that was going to affect them big style.

There probably is a few Sega games in development for PS2 but if what your saying was true, that they aren\'t developing games for sony cause it helped towards its death then thats Sega\'s loss.

AlterBeast: No hard feelings. :)
