Nintendo has officially announced the prices of GameCube and it\'s games. Here\'s the press release direct from Reuters...
Nintendo to price GameCube at $199, below rivals
LOS ANGELES, May 21 (Reuters) - Video game maker Nintendo Co. Ltd. on Monday said it would price its new GameCube console at $199 in the United States, a $100 discount to rival game players.
A company spokesman said that Nintendo\'s video games for the GameCube would be priced at $49.90 each.
Nintendo first unveiled its latest console last week at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), and said it would launch the system on Nov. 5 in the United States, after a mid-September launch in Japan.
The $199 price for Nintendo\'s GameCube contrasts with the $299 price tag announced last week for Microsoft Corp.\'s (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) new Xbox player. The Xbox and GameCube are scheduled to launch in the United States in the same week.
Sony Corp.\'s PlayStation 2 launched at a price of $299 last September. Although the company officially has said it will not lower its price, several analysts have forecast a $50 discount once its two competitors hit the market.
Sweet! Nintendo truly is improving on their past mistakes. Now their games and their systems are way cheaper than they are regularly. I guess the mini-dvd format is paying off. :)

Good news for those looking forward to the GameCube. I wasn\'t really worried about the console price. It was the games that I was worried about. Well time to go pay off my pre-order. :D

Sweet! That\'s great news for all Nintendo fans! :)

Taken from IGNCube (http://www.igncube.com)
One problem the PlayStation 2 faced, and the Xbox could possibly face is a shortage of consoles at launch. In the case of the PlayStation 2, Sony failed to deliver almost half of its promised quantity. Currently Microsoft is facing hardware design issues that could jeopardize the availability of the Xbox console at launch. In Nintendo\'s case, though, final hardware development kits are in the hands of many developers and the console is being readied for production at the appropriate facilities. The Big N plans on selling 2.5 million units to the U.S. and Japanese market combined by the end of the year. It can meet these high production volumes via its ability to produce 600,000 GameCube systems each month according to Nikkei English News.
Here is some more info that hasn\'t been posted yet. This pretty good news. 2.5 million in 4 months is a very nice goal.

It may be $199,which is good news, but still $49 for one game, that is too much,i dont care if they are what half the size of a CD,or if it is zelda or mario, that is stupid.

Thats the same price as the PS2 games. I guess they are trying to keep the software at a mass market price.

geezzzzzz, if PS2 lowers its price like it said by 100, then it will be 200 bucks and gamecube will be 200 bucks the war will leave X-BOX way behind

I take it your getting tired of buying PS2 games then. ;)

Sony will not drop the price of their console by $100, it will be a 50$ price drop. That\'s what most gaming sites say and that sounds the most logical too.

I am getting a Gamecube the day it comes out. I don\'t know about Xbox though...

Nice One Nintendo :D
looks like they are out for a fight and in situations llike this, the Gamer wins with lower price Consoles and games.
Nintendo are totally out for Microsofts BLOOD !.
It\'s Almost as if Bill Gates himself called them ALL GAYLORDS or something.
What with the PRICE and NEW launch date.
It will be very intresting to see how this fight ( X Box Vs NGC) takes off.

alright nintendo keep it up
-
I expected as much. This is great, only need to spend $500 on consoles this year...

Hahaha. I guess we all see this in different terms and I will tell you how I see it. Nintendo is raping your guys money, or Microsoft is giving you one hell of a deal.
Gamecube - must buy modem or ethernet card seperate & no harddrive
X-Box - DVD movies (w/ remote), hard drive, and ethernet all included out of the box, for the cost of a PS2.
It\'s all in how you look at it. I know which console I will be getting at launch.

Money dosent really come first to me, I think of what kind of gaming im gonna get, I like Nintendo\'s games and I like Rare\'s games, so for me the GameCube is the better deal.

The same way SEGA raped us out of our money with the Dreamcast?

PS2 games are equally expensive. And when you compare the prices to previous NIntendo game prices, this is great news. Not to mention the console price is beyond excellent. THis could be a real problem for MS.
I am going to pre-order mine A.S.A.P!
-
Sorry i got it wrong,i thought it was still going to be 49 pounds for one game here in the uk,but yeah games are too expensive,i think ps2 game are too expensive as well.
But the console price that is cool,i think they could have a big market share this geneartion, well untill the other consoles lower there prices,i do think the xbox should have been the same price, for microsofts first console, but i guess you do get a hard drive with the Xbox,so that is one good point.

Just like Sega raped us w/ the Sega CD and 32X? Or maybe what Sony plans to do with the HDD/BB add-on? How about what Microsoft is doing by entering the console race?
