I\'m sick of these d1ck head developers who whine about how the PS2 is hard to develope for.
If you can\'t make a good game on the PS2, while many others can, then you\'re not doing yor job right.
Just look at what the FFX guys and Kojima\'s team have been able to do, all on the hard to develope for PS2 architecture.
If you\'re such a püssy that you won\'t put in the effort to learn how to program on the PS2\'s hardware, then you don\'t belong in this buisness.
In other words,
YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK! GOODBYE!

This was pretty pointless. It costs more to develop for PS2 also. Oddworld is a small company, Konami and Square are big and rich. Get over it.

Actually ooseven I was talking about all developers in general but Oddworld specifically.
I have lost all respect I ever had for Oddworld.
That Lanning guy is just one of the many d1ck head developers I\'m talking about.

I am confused. The quotes in this thread do not correspond to the posts that they seem to come from. Its like the twilight zone or something.
-
There will always be complainers. When ever something is non conforming or challenging you will get whiners.
If a dev is going to whine then they are obviously not interested or capable of dev for the PS2 and to be honest I wouldn\'t want them to dev for the PS2. Just give us those who relish the challenge of taming the beast

Uh, no. I\'m not a game developer. And if I was I wouldn\'t whine because something was a challenge and be afraid that I can\'t overcome that challenge and be exposed that I SUCK.
-
It\'s not that they suck, it is that they would rather spend their time on other things, like the story and characters, than trying to get the hardware to do what they want. Why spend more time trying to figure out how to get the hardware to perform right than makeing a good story?
-
here I posted this in the other thread, about the rumor of lanning.

Listen go and watch the video taken from e3 where lanning explains his game, there he describes what he was able to acomplish on XBOX that simply could not be done on PSX2
Please go watch the video, it\'s at the beginning, it will explain everything, then you may comment on the issue.

Final Fantasy X has been delayed. MGS2...delayed. GT3...delayed.
Smaller developers don\'t have time, nor resources, nor libraries (in part thanks to Sony) to support the PS2 in its fullest as has been shown by GT3.

Direct your anger at developers who are even bigger a$$*****. Developers like EA, Square, Namco, and Konami, as well as companies who seem to THINK they\'re hot shot developers, like Working Designs.
Why am I calling these developers a$$*****? It has nothing to do w/ the quality of their games. The reason is, nobody would know just who the F**K these people are if it weren\'t for Nintendo and Sega. And just where were they when the big N & S needed them the most? Shacking up at Sony\'s camp.
So now that a former Sony 3rd party has pulled the same stunt on them w/ MS, they\'re suddenly talking out of their a$$ and are pricks?
Where\'s your rant that should be directed towards Konami when he complained about the PS2?

This is a business you know. Do you think that a company is going to support a console even if it does not make sense for them financially? Nope. Would you? Take for example, Square. They could have easily just made FFVII for the N64. But then it would not have been the game that so many people love. Another company would have stepped up and made a kick-ass RPG on the PSX and then they would be the RPG king now. You have to remember that companies always look out for self first.
-
Well all i know is that all the consoles of this generation are gonna be difficult to develop for at first
i was wacthin TechTV yesterday and some CEO of a game company was there commenting on the development process for each console and he said that they were all about the same - they each had something that a developer had to overcome

We may never know but if Square had stuck w/ Nintendo, we may be in a different situation.
Plus, N64 had the best launch ever, at the time. Imagine what it would have done for Nintendo w/ massive 3rd party support.
So exactly why was it not financially reasonable to support Nintendo?

If paying for expensive carts and huge licensing fees costs more than burning regular PSX disks and Sony\'s minimal licensing fees then for Square it could have been a more financially reasonable decision. IMO, They went with PSX because of the CD format. They just couldn\'t do what they wanted to do on the N64 cart format.
I was not in the board-room when they made the decision, so It could have very well been financially responsible for them to support the N64. I was just using them as an example.
As far as games selling, Nintendo had an INCREDIBLE launch but as far as selection........the N64 launch lineup sucked.

- It takes more time and cost to develop for the PS2. There is no denying this fact. Smaller developers can not dedicate so much time and money to a game that may not sell.
- The PS2 is extremely complicated to develop for. The learning curve will eventually get easier, but at this time, once again, smaller developers just can\'t dedicate all their time and money to R&D .
- Square could not support Nintendo with the cartridge format. Not when Sony had a system with the cd-format and easy development. They done the safest and most logical thing, they moved FF7 over to the PSone. There was also plenty of other third parties put out with the catridge format because of price and other things.
- It is alot easier for companies like EA that just bring out a yearly update and have plenty of money and programmers to spare. The same applies to Konami, as they have plenty of cash, research and development, and talented programmers to spare for one project. Then you have companies like 3DO.....
-
Forgot about the whole expensive cartridge thing. Sorry. :nut:
