Title: Half-Life
Post by: solid_snake87 on May 23, 2001, 12:33:37 AM
I dont know if any body else is waiting for the arrival of half-life (targeted this summer), as I am.  I have played Half-Life on my PC, and I absolutly loved it.  What would be much better than seeing a Half-Life internet version for PS2.  If you are not farmillar with this game, and the series, then you are in for a treat.  This is one of the best first-person shooters I have ever played.  Tell me whatcha thinl.
Thanks.
WOLFE

i have also played HL for the PC and it was great, a true classic.

the reason i wan tit for the PS2 is the extras & the improved graphics, it looks a hell of a lot better than the PC version

I\'m not so sure about this.  Certainly the graphics, models, and animations will be better than the PC version, but they\'ll be displayed on a lower resolution television screen.  If you activate a co-op mode in splitscreen, the graphic improvements will be virtually unnoticable.

That leaves the gameplay.  If the PS2 version utilizes the upcoming mouse and keyboard, then it should be fine.  If it depends on the PS2 controller, I think it will definitely be inferior to the PC version.  Regarding the game itself, I have no desire to repeat the original single player game from HL.  If they include that single player game in the PS2 version of HL, that means there\'s immediately 60-70% of the game I will never look at.  The add-on mission called "Decay" is an unknown variable, since I didn\'t care much for Gearbox\'s previous add-on called "Opposing Force."

Online play is the only area where this PS2 version of Half-Life could excel.  What I don\'t understand is why they haven\'t announced any plans to include the best HL mod around, and possibly the best multiplayer game ever, COUNTER-STRIKE.  Sierra and Gearbox will have to offer a really compelling product to capture the interest of HL fans like me.

A lot of ppl ask me "What do you want with a game you already played??" I guess its that much of a classic that I dont mind playing again, that game has to be one of the all time greatest games Ive ever played and I cant wait for the PS2 version.

IMO, FPS games don\'t belong on consoles.  There the only genre i say don\'t.. Cause u can\'t update them, Or use mods etc.

Maybe it will happen with the ps2 HD, Xbox HD etc. But i donno.. it just doesn\'t feel right.

That\'s the problem for FPS on consoles. The feeling on a PC with 1024x768 and mouse with 80 frames per second is an other feeling than 30 frames per second and a controller. Sorry, but it\'s so. But I will buy Red Faction and Half Life for PS2 because I can lay on the bed with a beer on the ground and enjoy the game. :)

I tried playing HL on my piece of garbage PC.  Hopefully the PS2 version will be much, much better.  And so far, from what I have seen, it is.

At this point, however, ANYTHING is better than the toaster with a monitor I currently own.
