J allard clears it up
"I called those guys up today. As i suspected, it\'s an interactive dvd title and has nothing to do with xbox. I had a good conversation with those guys clearing things up with them. I thought it was funny that they were more excited about my product than I was about theirs! To be super-clear on the gaming front - we\'re not going to approve ESRB-rated AO (adults only) games for the system.

What\'s the criteria for deciding what\'s an AO game and what\'s merely M rated? If it\'s only nudity and strong sexual content, then I still disagree with MS\'s (and all the other console developers) stances on the subject. Nudity dosen\'t necessarilly mean porn. It can also be an artform. Take Stanley Kubrick\'s "Eyes Wide Shut". If that were a game, it\'d most definately get the AO rating.. but it\'s not a porno.. and it\'s definately a good movie that touches on quite a few sensitive subjects adults often deal with.
It\'s a shame that the industry still can\'t recognize the need for more adult content, and worse, can\'t seem to create it without it falling into the hands of children. There has to be some way to appeal to all markets while allowing parents to take the initiative in their own household to protect their children.
Personally, I think it\'s stupid. Consoles should have parental controls that allow parents to pick and choose what games they want their kids to play. If the parent fails to follow through with the tools provided to them.. that\'s their fault.. noone else\'s. They should not be allowed to hold back the industry just because their too lazy to take responsibility. How many of us have, at one time or another, stumbled onto one of our parent\'s misplaced porno movies or magazines? Should porno in all it\'s forms be obliterated? No.. of course not.. and neither should adult content in games.
The flipside of this is, sadly, that many game companies could (WILL, I should say) use the AO rating to put out quick, junk, prono games with absololutely NO gameplay value and cheapen the entire industry under a flood of sleazy crap.
Such is life I guess.
