EA to release unlicensed wrestling game
Electronic Arts is in jeopardy of losing its WCW license, but it will release an unlicensed wrestling game this fall.
During a recent analysts and investors breakfast, Electronic Arts executives confirmed that the company will release its Sony PlayStation 2 wrestling game this year. However, the game will ship without the official WCW license and will not include the wrestlers from that organization.
"You won\'t see a WCW-licensed wrestling product, but you will see a wrestling product from us," Larry Probst, chairman and CEO of Electronic Arts, told investors. "It is being developed by a studio in Japan, which is responsible for most of the best-selling wrestling games from THQ. It will be a nonlicensed product, but we think it will be fun and great."
WCW was recently bought out by its primary competitor, the WWF. Electronic Arts is currently taking a "wait and see" approach in regard to the WCW license, as specific details regarding the buyout deal have not been solidified. Electronic Arts spokespersons were not available for further comment.

geeez
why bother?
would anybody even buy it without it having wrestlers they know? People buy wrestling games because they wanna wrestle as the Rock. They wanna win the WWF championship.
I don\'t even see why they are doing this.
-
well, if it doesnt have your fav. characters, it would want to be either A) one funny as hell game with cool cartoonish characters, or B) be the bloodiest game ever
otherwise, it\'d be utter garbage
-
it would just be like any old fighting game but wrestling.
Doa and tekken all started from scratch maybey this will be bigger than expected and start up another tekken sort of wrestling game

WE WANT STING WE WANT STING

theres a game called legends of wrestling i read about (i\'ll see if i can find the article) with wrestlers like terry funk, jake the snake, super fly jimmy snuka...and lots of greats from around the world.....
-
nah, it won\'t interest me at all if it isn\'t licensed. I love new wrestling games based on WWF and WCW, but I always shudder when i go to a games store and see "Pro-wrestling" "super pro-wrestling" " stars of pro-wrestling
just no fun. Wrestling is as popular as it is because of it\'s storylines, not it\'s fighting. It\'s storylines ae good because of the characters.
Granted... wrestling games aren\'t really based on storylines, it IS all about the fighting, but still, you need the characters who the stories are based on
would you rather wrestle, and do a rock bottom with the rock??
Or do a super piledriver with "The avenging mean man"
Not my kind of game I\'m afraid EA.
-
i\'ll bet if it is unlicensed that the moves would all be fake too....
-
In the words of Cartmen:
"That\'s stupid, who the hell would wanna buy that?"
Good question, who would? Sounds pretty fakey and what will the moves be like. If they\'re making a videogame, then I\'ll wait till Smackdown! 3: Just Bring It comes out.
