In a recent poll in Electronic Game Monthly there was a poll for us gamers.
Would you buy an Xbox if it costs more than $300?
Here\'s the results:

The only thing holding me back from buying an X-Box is my wife\'s notorious cheapness.  She probably won\'t even let me buy a Dreamcast in 2 years when its going at Funcoland for 45 bucks.

She almost stopped me from buying my Saturn, but I outsmarted her; I just bought it when she wasn\'t around! :D

Anywho, I digress...

If I could buy one, I would.  In a heartbeat.

I don\'t see why you\'d want both systems either.  Even if you think it will be better, is it really better enough to buy a whole new system.  I have quite a bit of extra money in my life, but I certainly don\'t need two comparable systems either.

No.. at least.. not right away and certainly not at $300.

The console is alright looking, The games look great and fun with many I\'d like to try... I really can only afford to support two consoles in this generation. In fact, I\'m really debating on weither or not to buy a PS2 unless the price drop is $100 and not the much more likely $50 drop. There\'s a LOT of games on it I can\'t wait to get my hands on.. much more than Xbox at this point. Plus I\'ve got all those Dreamcast games to catch up on.

Even beyond that though, is time constraints. Two new games from either the PS2 or DC is just about all the new games I can handle. Between work, My regular life, Sleep, and all those old games I\'m buying dirt cheap + Downloaded Roms and Abandonware.. I\'m swamped with games. Right now, I have more games on my computer than I could finish in a year. And I still haven\'t gotten around to playing even a fraction of them for more than a few minuites.

Given a few years time for pricedrops and an expanded library.. I probably will pick up a second hand Xbox and a few titles. I just don\'t see any incentive to buy the Xbox right away. Aside from graphics, it really can\'t offer me anything substancial that I won\'t be able to get somewhere else.

Then again, graphics don\'t mean crap to me. They\'re nice and all.. but on average I play far more EGA and 16 bit games than I do next-gen or current gen titles.

It could be said 4/5 of PS2\'s games will be on XB, so why not ditch PS2 and go with the more powerful system. Just playing devils advocate.

A store by me is selling used dreamcast for 50 bucks, i almost bought one but then i relised i really dont like any games on it, and i wont be buying a X-BOX no games look interesting to me

Not right now. The games I really want are still on PS2 (Silent Hill 2, MGS2, FFX and XenoSaga), and even if XBox does get some of them, I also need something to play my 50+ PSX games on. I won\'t argue that XBox is some instances does far surpass the PS2 visually, the difference in that respect in motion won\'t be enough to sway me either way. Insofar the first generation of XBox titles hasn\'t grabbed me when compared to PS2\'s current generation. I don\'t have either yet, but I\'m definitely getting PS2 first. And I\'ll wait and see what XBox comes up with next year. I never have bought a system at launch and I never will.

Aww man, Boz!  You don\'t like the looks of PSO, any of the Capcom vs. games or ANYTHING on the Dreamcast?  Not even Soul Caliber?  And I did see some screenshots for Bleemcast.  It might be worth it to get it so I can clean up some PSOne games with it.  That PS2 "Enhancement" feature kinda disappointed me. :(

All kidding aside about my wife, I think even she would agree that the 50 bucks would be worth it for the DC given the small, but still quality, list of games for the DC.  And yeah:

a:  I exaggerate my wife\'s parsimonious attitudes

and

b:  My wife LOVES those fighting games.  She used to kick my rear end in Tekken (until Hwoarang came along) and killed just about everyone in the first "Soul" game.

I\'ll prolly get an Xbox eventually. But consoles are damn expensive here... I think I\'m too cheap to buy one at launch! I also have to admit that I\'ve been looking at GBA - dang, that machine is more awesome than I thought! My family seem to think handhelds are for kids though... I might get one when I get my own place (which should be soon I hope). Anyways, the games I\'ve seen so far look very promising.

Most\'ll be ports i guess, and we know how bad ports are...but honestly if onimusha 2 is on the x-box(i said IF)  and ps2... i wouldn\'t spend 300 shmackers just for possibly "enhanced graphics" since i own a ps2...

My answer is No, i would rather buy 6 ps2 games instead of an x-box their just to american for me :)

No.  I won\'t be getting an Xbox or NGC.  I agree with what Vivi said.  What is the point if I already have a PS2 which will be getting some awesome games at the same time?  I\'m not saying the Xbox won\'t be getting good games.  I\'m just saying the PS2 will be getting good games at the same time and I would rather spend money on new games than on a whole new console.  If the PS2 starts to die out, I will consider it, but as things are looking right now, I don\'t care about the NGC or Xbox.

I won\'t be buying one at that priceor any price really. My favorite games are MGS and Gran Turismo and they\'re both on PS2 which I already own. I know the PS2 versions of these games aren\'t out yet (not in the US anyway) but i\'m pretty sure they won\'t dissappoint me.

a.) I seriously doubt 4/5 PS2 game will be ported to the XBox. I\'m sure quite a few will, but 4/5 is stretching it tremndously, Maybe more like 2/5.



b.) Xbox has its strengths but the PS2 obviously will have its strengths. Xbox might have more polished graphics but it could  fall short in other departments. Graphics and a HD do not make a console more powerful in all categories, and the PS2\'s EE is still a beast not close to being tamed



On the the thread topic note:


I have an Xbox pre-ordered but I seriously doubt I will get it at Launch. I would have to sacrafice abour 10 PS2 titles just to play XBox this Nov. I\'ll just wait and grap one on a price break. I honestly barely have time to play my PS2 as much as I want.



ANOTHER thing. For those who are thinking about putting XBox\'s up on Ebay at launch. I doubt the demand for XBox at launch will come close to the PS2\'s demand last Oct - Jan. SO don\'t expect to make any sort of a killing. GC will probably be in higher demand this Xmas season

PSO is a cool game but I dont like fighting games, so that excludes capcom vs. and soul caliber, the bleemcast is cool and it totally improved how GT2 looked

I will not buy one at launch, regardless of the cost. X-Box will need to break into the market and prove itself a viable console, not to mention get software I want, before I buy one.

Sure, I\'ll keep an open mind, and keep up with the console. If it meets my personal wants and likes, I\'ll pick it up at some point in 2002.

    I take that to believe you think the X-Box is not worth a penny. That is not the point. The point is that the Machine is far worth more the penny thing is just bashing a console that has not seen the light of day yet in the consumers hands. How can one say it is not worthy or wont supply viable entertainment. If you like to play games why place a bias on one platform or another? Maybe, and I mean maybe, I will get one eventually if their is anything I really want on XBox that I can\'t get for PS2.
