Does anybody know when the PS3 will come out?  :D
Just checking, cause I think it will come out sooner then we think.
Just a prediction. I think with Xbox and GC in the wings, SONY might just Speed up the process of launching a new console. Sure it might not come out until Q4 of 2003 at the Earliest, but it should not come out 2005, at least I hope it won’t. :sconf:

I would say that is a good possibility because of the following reasons:

1) Emotion Engine for PS3 will be backwards compatible with the one in PS2.
2) SONY likes being top dog.  :D
3) GC might sell better then expected.
4) M$ might not get it right the first time, but with deep pockets, they will have ample opportunity to do so. The only way to make Xbox and M$ play second fiddle in consumers gamers mind is to undermine its potential.  :D

Would anyone like to guess the PS3 specs?

My out of the hat speculative forecast is as follows:

60 Million Polygons a second. (In game, not some laboratory test situation)  :D
300 Million Polygons (Inside of a laboratory  :D)
12 MB embbeded Ram for the Graphics chip. (not the 4MB we have now)
128 MB of Ram.

Ok, so I’m conservative. :nut:

If GC sells better than expected (there\'s a demand for 4 million so far) then Sony won\'t want to release a PS3. PS2 is just picking up steam, and they don\'t want to screw the gamers. They really do have to wait 5 years for people to begin even thinking of another system.

there have been sooooooo many different threads like this.
i say that you CANNOT tell where the technology is heading.
i also dont think the ps3( or whatever it will be called) wont be launched till AT LEAST 2005, they didnt launch ps2 until 5 years after its launch.

also, the ps3might not be able to be backward compatible with the ps2. the EE is expencive to build( but yes the price will drop) the backwards compatibility option worked with the ps2 because the psx sold 70 million units worldwide. they needed it to have backward compatability.

i also heard somewhere that sony is already developing the processor, but right now its on paper( vaporware) codenamed "Cell" it is supposedly unbelieveable. a thread was posted awhile ago about it.

i say, lets not live dreaming about the future. because right now, its a UNBELIEVEABLE time to be a gamer :D:D:D:D:D:D
IM BACK. you have a problem with that? get in the back.

Sony will not speed up the release of their console, unless PS2 bombs...and PS2 already has enough of a user bsae to ensure that doesnt happen.  11 million consoles world wide without even a major price drop is extremely good.

i seriously doubt the PS3 will be backwards compatible.

If MS seriously bombs, really badly so they have to pull out like the DC did, i seriously doubt they will come back for a second helping, not for a while at least.

you are conservative, if the PS3 can only do that, then thats a pretty poor effort

Sony will not release the PS3 in 2003. Not a chance in hell. I think they KNOW what a tarnished image does for a console company, even if the product is solid gold. *Cough.. Sega.. Cough* They\'ve got enough of a userbase and enough momentum that they\'ll last well into 2007 with PS2 game production.. even though a 2005 or 2006 launch is certainly when the PS3 will come out.

Now about power.. I\'ve heard some Sony execs say that if you want a sample of the PS3\'s potential.. then just look at the GSCube. But since the GScube has been bumped up to 60 some pairings of EE & GS synthesisers from 30 some.. I don\'t think that\'s an accurate representation anymore. Either way, I hear it will be roughly 100x more powerful than the PS2. Then again.. that\'s what they said back when they were certain they\'d stick with the PS2\'s archetecture well into PS4 production. If this deal with IBM and Toshiba to produce "Cell" chips ends up finding a way to benefit the PS3.. then we could be looking at a machine that\'s much... MUCH more powerful than the PS2. (IBM eluded to the fact that their expectations of the Cell chip will provide roughly the same power as their "Deep Blue" supercomputer.) However, I doubt we\'ll see Cell chips in Playstations until the PS4 at the earliest since I can almost guantee that they will be some EXPENSIVE Mofo\'s when they\'re released.

Also, the PS2 isn\'t compatable with PS1 games because the PS1 sold 70 million units worldwide.. it\'s compatable with the PS1 because it\'s I/O processor is essencially the PS1\'s main CPU. Those are dirt cheap now, and could fill both purposes... so Sony figured, why the hell not just toss it in and provide backwards compatability? It\'s expecially helpful since Sony dosen\'t have to re-tool and scale back their PS1 chip producing factories seeing as how the chips are serving a dual purpose in two different machines.

If the PS3 keeps the same type of archetecture as the PS2.. then I can almost guantee you backwards compatablility in the next model. (expecially since Sony\'s now set a precidence with the PS2. People will EXPECT backwards compatability with the PS3). But I doubt we\'ll see PS1 compatability in the PS3. Most likely, Sony (or someone else like Bleem or Connectix) will develop an emulator of some sorts for those very few of us out there who will still play our PS1 games well into the future.
Please Bleed.. so I know that you are real.
Please Bleed.. so I know that you can feel the damage that you\'ve done.

Naahh...PS2 is still in its infancy and I don\'t see one reason to release a Next Gen Console before 2005 :)
The EE3 won\'t be ready till 2004(I think) and PS3 will see the the light in Q2,Q3 2005(my forecast)

What about the specs ?  no way we can forecast something...if you think Sony is always bound to New Technology :)...the only thing you can expect is a CPU 200-1000 Times more powerful than the current EE...

X-Box,PS2 and GameCube will be all successful and you won\'t see one Console killing the others...I think.....
...the only Console we\'ll see before 2005 will be The Next Sega Console...and I will be the first to buy IT :D

true dat BizioEE, true dat.

:)

Really though, we may get a glimpse of what the next generation will be like with the NAOMI3 set to come out, NAOMI2 looks incredible and I KNOW it hasn\'t been fully tapped yet, so we can only imagine what the 3rd wil be like! Hopefully it will belike the jump from model 2 to model 3!

I hope they are using the Phoenix design for it. That would be great! I knew a guy who worked for Sega, and through all the NDA\'s he signed, the only things he could give away were that Sega\'s next system (remember this is in 2000, but I think it is still relevant as it may be NAOMI3) was to be so powerful that it would not use polygons, but a new type of graphics processing. Once again, Sega was to lead the technology field. Maybe, and hopefully, that will be the realization inside of NAOMI3!!

I am crossing my fingers that the first gen. NAOMI3 games look as good as PS2 and X-Box will EVER look, that way, arcades just may come back!

to the future!
