Anyone here read Digitiser (UK)?

They are amusing as hell and I\'m a regular reader.

Today they gave Onimusha 2/5 - which is fair enough - its their opinion after all.

What I did object to was the quite unneccesary digs at the PS2 console itself. The review was more or less a direct rip into Sony\'s marketing hype, the lack of \'Emotion\', the logo, design of the console etc. They label Onimusha as a direct example of \'everything that\'s wrong with the PS2 market\'. The PS2 having \'spectacularly underwhelmed\' them and hence they feel \'cheated\'. Unbiased review? Maybe. Maybe not.

They didn\'t actually mention if the game was actually FUN. Just that they couldn\'t skip the cutscenes. They also failed to mention the fact that it was Capcom\'s decision to go with pre-rendered backdrops. They instead chose to convey this decision as a limitation of the PS2 in general, siting DC RE: Code Veronica as Capcom\'s true new direction with survival horror whilst Onimusha was some sort of step backwards.

Maybe I\'m reading too much into this and I know there will be the inevitable responses along the lines of \'Its just their opinion\' and I would agree with you. The point I want to raise is that this is a multiformat \'magazine\' read by millions every day and the general feeling is one of intense negativity towards one of the consoles.
They have been accused of bias in the past against all formats at some time, I should add. However, I don\'t think in all the time I have been reading them they have ever been so blatant. How could they ever consider themselves impartial? Thoughts?

No way that is stupid, and alot of people wont take any notice of it,because a magazine doesnt make me decided if i am going to purchase a piece of hardware of software,so i wouldnt worrie to much,but that is still ****ing stupid.
Not only that Onimusha is an excellent game,and they should have talked about that.And we will have to see if they have to eat there words come this winter,what with all the great games comming out.

I entirely agree with you.

Digitiser has had a habit of switching sides over the years, and chooses to be forthright with their opinions wherever possible, but since the PS2 has been out, they have been unfairly harsh.

Yeah, we know that the machine has failed to live up to the unbridled hype that was banded about befoe the machine came out, but there has been a lot of great games, and we will see before the year is out, a large batch of AAA titles that will rival any games that\'s ever been released.

Now I\'ve still to play Onimusha (I\'ll buy it tomorrow), but 2/5 seems to highly out of touch.  Moreover, it seems as they they\'re just trying to damn the machine even more.  It\'s like they\'re simply trying to prove a point, and not saying when a great game is great, because it\'s on the PS2

At the end of the day, it is an opinion.  But it is a multi-format section, and this type of biased drivel only reinforces ignorant views on ignorant people who have not got a PS2 because they believe what they read in these completely one-sided views.

Gran Turismo 3 1/5 anyone..?

OK in Digitiser\'s defense they have always claimed that they are unbiased and simply state there opinions. Heck theres been many a letters page full of people saying Digitiser is biased to this that or the other. My opinion from what i\'ve read from other reviews 2/5 is a bit harsh but in the right direction for a game that can be completed in a day or so (prehaps 3/5 would have been better).

I do have one major snag semi mentioned in this post and that is the review system they always seem to use.

Out of the 5 pages its normally laid out like:

P1 - Some mindless introduction comparing the game to something stupid like its funny after the 1000th time.
P2 - More on the games history.
P3 - The actual page which sort of goes into some detail about the game but they can\'t write much on one screen of teletext.
P4 - The results screen.
P5 - An advert.

They seem to be using this 1 page of review usefulness more often nowadays. I still respect there opinions but when in reviews they dont even mention what the game is about sometimes (to some degree), then yeah they are loosing respect with me.

Those people are idiots, the game rocks and it´s the best game at the moment for PS2, I think.
