Tofu

Tonight was one for the books.  I tried TOFU for the first time.  It was part of the "Indian Feast Platter" at this place in Athens called "The Grit."

Oh boy was it good.  I love Indian food, and this was good Indian food!

They also have tofu: Greek, Mexican, Chinese, etc.

It\'s great, if done right.

Very true! Most who find it objectional have usually been subjected to some form of culinary incompetencey in regards to the jiggley white blocks of protien. I was vegetarian for 10 years, but about 4 years ago the lure of salmon and the occaisional chicken breast lead me to the darkside(j/k). Tofu is usually attacked and berated by those whose palete is only accustomed to a reguler diet of meat and potatoes, but those who enjoy all ethnicities of cuisine are in-the-know!

Indian food rocks, particularily that of northern origin.

I find it strange that you would say "boy was it good."  If it\'s good, that\'s only because it was prepared well with a good sauce or seasonings or whatever, because tofu has no flavor of it\'s own.  I don\'t consider this real food because it\'s so synthetic, and the texture has a very articial quality to it.  Tofu dishes can be great, don\'t get me wrong, but as a food item tofu itself is unremarkable.  Whenever I eat it, I always imagine that I\'m living 500 years from now on an Earth with 60 billion people, and the only food available to anyone is artifical stuff like Tofu.  Oh yeah that and Soylent Green... :D

You are right in the fact that Tofu has little natural flavor.  But it\'s not synthetic, it\'s bean curd.  (I don\'t know what kind of tofu you\'re eating, but the good stuff is usually not in cubes, but looks like pieces of fried chicken.)
