CygnusXI\'s Blackjack tutorialDouble Down: You can double your money down on ANY HAND. Say you have $10 on a hand, you\'re hand is 10 (5 and 5, or 7 and 3, etc). Well, you feel lucky, chances are you\'ll get a ten, or similar high card. The dealer has a low card showing (2-6).
You need not say a word, just take $10 worth of chips and place it next to your bet. This tells the dealer (and the cameras) that you are doubling down.
When you DD, you ONLY GET ONE CARD. So if you get a 2 or 3 you may get screwed, but if you get that 10 or 8, you just doubled your money:)
Note: You can double Down "for less". Say your bet is $10, but you\'e not too confident, you can lay down only 6, or 5, or whatever you want.
Split: You can split any pair. If your hand is 8&8 or 4&4, etc, then you can "split". In this situation, it\'s best to say "split" to the dealer, then put down an equal amount of money as your original bet.
The dealer will then split your cards and you will now be dealt a new card for each. For example:
You have two 8\'s (eights are good to split because two of them is 16-- which sucks). You split (and put down another X amount of bet = to the original) and now the dealer deals two cards to go on the eights, say a 10 and a 2.
Now you have one hand that is 18, and one that is 10. Stay on the 18 (Duh) and hit on the 10. It\'s like playing two hands at once:)
Insurance: This is offered by the dealer if (s)he has an ace showing. You give money to insure you against losing. I\'m not certain about this option. I never use it. I figure if they have 21 I lose and that\'s that:)
If I think of more, I will post them, but those are the biggies:)
