Boring Green screen problem (again!)
« on: August 18, 2001, 09:20:20 AM »
Just bought PS2 and EB scart & guncon (plus stereo) connectors, plugged it into telly, main menu was fine but on playing a DVD the screen was green. I know this problem was posted recently, I can\'t find it. What should I do? What\'s causing it? I have a similar cable for the PS1 but it didn\'t work at all with the PS2, I remember that being said to be a solution as it had full connectors or summit??????

is your ps2 connected through your VCR?

If so then connect it directly to the tv, but if not then i dont know whats wrong.

If you have it connected to the VCR or thru the VCR than you cannot watch the movie due to Macrovision protection. Macrovision prevents you from watching the movie while connected to the VCR, so that you cannot record the movie onto tape.

If you have the PS2 connected to the VCR or whatever. Unhook the VCR.

The screen is green because you use a RGB cable, you cant see dvd with a RGB cable unless you buy a DVD-x. Go to a store and buy a S-VHS cable and you will have great picture.

I just connected directly to my TV\'s scart from the PS2 using this cable, with no hook up to the TV (apart from RF to a Digital box). I tried it through the video, it was more watchable and in colour but it was flickering, strangely the Moby DVD I have plays perfectly this way, though the others don\'t........could it be a PS2 problem?

there is nothing wrong with your ps2. all ps2 have a thing built intp them that if you have a full 24 pin scart lead ( the one the ps2 comes with only has 12 pins) it plays them green. the full scart lead gives a better pic than the crappy one the ps2 is supplied with, but it lets you watch properly. i cant remeber y it gives you green o vision, something like stops u getting perfect copies if you try to tape it.

the only way to stop this is get a dvd region x, i have one,so if u need info ill get you some :D or get something like a s-video connector, which gives a high quality pic and no green-o-vision, ut not all tv take them

Oh boy... where to start ?

1. Macrovision: It is a copyprotection on the DVD ! Not all DVDs have it, but most, that is the flickering you see (dark, bright and so on)

2. Green Playback: This is a protection from SONY build in into the PS2 to make it unable for you to record a DVD on the VCR fia rgb cable... unfortunaly it will give you a green picture on TV aswell !

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Solutions:

There are Macrovision-Off Chips on the market. Just ask your lokal dealer (or look at http://www.playstationmods.com) ! With this one installed, you can record your DVD on tape...

For the green screen, there are several ways to go around...
1. As mentioned above the DVD Region X from Datel (Datel will quit production on that one, so get it now if you will, they´re planing on a newer version with AR 2.2, but it´s still a rumor)
2. Ask you dealer (should be a good Gameshop) to do the rgb Fix for you. Two points in the PS2 have to be linked to give you the best picture (rgb) !!! (5-10$)
3. You buy a S-VHS cable... it´s not the BEST quality, but a lot better than the standart cable...

I would go for the Region X, as there are no warranty problems, but the BEST solution is a rgb Fix plus Macrovision-Off and Regioncode-Free Chip !
