Anyone reserve an Xbox?
« on: September 01, 2001, 05:24:01 PM »
*NOTE: I know this is a PS2 forum but I really hope this doesn\'t turn into an "XBOX SUX" thread.  I just wanted to get some honest answers.  Hell if I posted this thread at an Xbox forum the replies would most likely be even more bias than here.

I was pretty sure that I most definitely wouldn\'t be reserving an Xbox but I went into EB today.  The flyer they had about the reservations didn\'t sound too bad.  Get the Xbox, 3 games of your choice, and an accessory of your choice for $499.  I am interested in getting Halo, Project Gotham Racing, and Oddworld: MO.  Here are some samples of bundles on their website.

Now $500 isn\'t cheap but that\'s less than 2 weeks pay for me.  Not to mention the Xbox supports progressive out, Hi-def output, 5.1 surround in real-time, and VGA output as well.  Anyone out there making the plunge for bundled pre-orders, buying it on launch, or will wait/not buy it at all?

i won\'t buy it the first 2-3 weeks of availability, ;)
MS won\'t come close to having a super first day, week, or month of sales. And i won\'t help them by getting XBox the first couple of weeks...

I think the XBox will have much better games towards the end of 2002, and so i\'m in no hurry, and i think a bit of humility is what the doctor ordered for M$...

No. I don\'t have the $500 to spend right now on a pre-order. I will just go and line up and get one on launch. If there is none left over for us non-preordering people, then oh well. There isn\'t anything I want at launch anyways. Make no mistake though, if for some reason I can\'t get one at launch, I\'ll have one by Christmas .
I will get a GC at launch by pre-order though.

Nintendo doesn\'t want pre-orders for the Gamecube. :(  Although some stores like Funcoland did take pre-orders before this announcement, they are debating whether or not to cancel them.

Nintendo wants reatilers to discourage pre-orders the same way M$ wants them to sell Xbox\'s in bundles only.  It\'s to deter a console shortage on launch day which will ultimately happen anyway.
